The Coming Chaos
American Thinker ^ | 09-7-11 | John Griffing

Posted on 09/07/2011 2:11:20 AM PDT by Mozilla

America is about to be destroyed by debt. And we're acting like it's business as usual.

In the push to resolve America's impending debt crisis, much has been done to ensure politically favorable positions for those engaged in the debt talks, and the possibility of a default has been addressed in largely academic terms, with complete disregard for the gruesome realities a default implies. Our leaders are living in a fantasy world, indulging in partisan gamesmanship, concerned only about their reelections. The time has come for our leaders to be Americans first, and do what needs to be done to save us from collapse.

Default has been discussed as a valid option, even by some at American Thinker. But its effects will be cataclysmic. Default must not be viewed in either political or strategic terms. Default spells one word for America: death, and death not only to the pocketbooks of the consistently demonized richest one percent (coincidentally also the tax bracket that creates jobs), but death to the thin veneer of "civilization" keeping the aging, post-Christian American culture from wanton acts of violence. Hyperbole? Ask our British friends.

It won't happen tomorrow, and the day after we default the sun will rise, and that's why it's so easy to deceive ourselves. But once we cross that line, there will be no going back. The slide toward disaster will be inexorable, the consequences irreversible.

Then why not just keep raising the debt ceiling? If I've maxed my credit cards to pay for the "necessities" of my family, I can't go to my credit card companies and demand they increase my limits. No matter how much my family "needs" things. And any debt counselor will immediately have me look at ways to cut my expenses.

The slide into economic chaos is around the corner. And most politicians and media do not care.

Denial is a powerful force.

They’ve gotten away with so long that it has become “normal” to spend more than what comes in.

And they think their cause is so just that it doesn’t matter what happens to those who actually pay for it all. If they still have money, they need to pay more.

But instead of treating the debt crisis with the gravity it deserves, public officials on both the political right and left have decided that the fate of billions worldwide -- who would be crushed by a U.S. default -- is fair game for political opportunism. This mode of thinking is dangerous, and potentially suicidal.

J Griffing paints a depressing picture indeed. Yet I don't buy his argument that both sides of the aisle are to blame. One side of the aisle OVERWHELMINGLY bears the bulk of the blame.

I believe that if the RIGHT side of the aisle is EVER blessed again with ruling authority it will work its damndest to fix the problem. If, OTOH, the Tea Party mentality goes to sleep...or, God forbid, Hussein's thugs create enough voter fraud to let a clown like Debbie Wasserdork Schmuck become Speaker of the House, then we are truly in deep doo-doo.

If President Mau-Mau and his buddies can cause the America dollar to collapse as the world’s reserve currency then he’s home free.

At least that’s what they think.

Lots of good facts in the article but not too well organized and it doesn't tell us what the politicians are supposed to do except "avoid default". They won't cut spending and taxes won't even cover the interest payments in a high interest rate environment. The inevitable conclusion is that they will take the easy way out and inflate, then redefine and revalue the currency. They will start with a modest two old dollars for one new dollar hoping to avoid the pitchforks. But that will not be enough and it will also open the door to hyperinflation as the people realize that and unload the new dollars.

Besides precious metals, I recommend a supply of long-lasting foods, repair kits, supplies.

I am willing to forecast that we may see a nationwide repeat of the famous novel and movie “The Grapes of Wrath”

And the funny thing is I just cannot figure out where everyone will go, most would think Texas as its being portrayed as the land of milk and honey.

More wages are being garnished, foreclosures are commonplace everywhere, the people are being backed into a corner and are almost like rats in a bucket.

What had better happen is that the country needs a hero, or heroine to give them hope. Without hope comes hopelessness.

Yes, among other things, these “easily forgotten or underestimated”:

- Candles

- Matches

- Flashlights

- Batteries

What is the most need consumable that is also the most easily controlled?
Fuel, be it gasoline, diesel or even propane.

It would actually not be such a bad idea to think about having some form of transport that can run off of easily obtainable fuel, such as wood for a steam engine, or to get more complex a hybrid steam generator that can charge a hybrid electric/steam car or truck.

I for one am quite interest in the idea of merging the two concepts, for fuel home made ethanol from a still that uses brush and grass, for the electrical part that can be anything from a donkey walking in circles to move a belt that would be turning several 125 amp Leece Neville truck alternators to a bank of golf cart batteries.

Everyday Americans also walk around as if nothing is happening. Still going about their daily lives, participating in frivilous activities, going on vacations, spending money on crap they don’t need ...partying, whatever.

Especially the young people I know — they haven’t a clue.

A violent civil war is almost inevitable. Murder and widespread thievery will be the first choice for at least a third of our population. They, of course, are “entitled” to whatever they want. The politicians have taught them self-indulgence is supreme and woe unto the politicians for the evil that will be unleashed from that monstrous lie. Morality has vanished and wickedness will violently take its place.

Most folks I know are feverishly stocking up on food and ammo.

Urban areas will fall into chaos first and become killing fields.

Here in the country, we will be dealing with unprepared and panicked refugees. It will be VERY ugly.

If you plan to bug out to someone else’s sanctuary and are unprepared, plan to be turned away - at gun point.

We all know what's coming. I will have NO sympathy for anyone.

I think the author’s data is right, but his conclusions are incorrect. America may be broke, but so is the rest of the world. This is a global problem. The principal cause is that we can produce enough to keep our civilization going with only 1/3-1/2 of the population employed. So....we support the rest of the population through deficit spending (either government jobs or entitlements). The cost of this has caught up with us and can’t be sustained.

What is saving our bacon now is that America actully is in relatively better shape than many other countries—especially in Europe. Our Treasury bonds on are high demand, which is why the yields are so low. Also, there is still so much $$ around, that people don’t know what to do with it because nothing seems safe. I think that both T-bonds and Gold are bubbles. When the bubble finally bursts, it will be very ugly. But it will ugly in other countries before it gets ugly here.

It should be clear to all that the world’s economy is on life support and the doctors are all ‘quacks’! Sooner or latter are the spinning plates are going to start to tumble and there is going to be on hell of a mess!

What kind of a mess you ask, well I think that we are in for something like the collapse of Argentina ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index )but on a global scale. Additionally I think we will see a much more violent version. As recent events show (Flash Mobs, UK riots, etc)we have a larger entitlement minded population and a the US has a much more violent and armed population than Argentina. I see many many small business wiped out by flash mob looting, and see rape, robbery and murder for murder sake. Many of these ‘yutes’ will think no more about killing you than most people think about stepping on a roach. That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the ‘yutes’. On the other hand the ‘yutes’ won’t think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.

Think of this quote which is one of my favorites:

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)” (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.

Now go look at some of the videos of the riots in the UK and of some of the flash mobs here in the US and look into there eyes.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”
