Perry comes under fire at the CNN/Tea Party Debate

Perry repeatedly found himself in the crosshairs, as the field of candidates took turns attacking his positions on illegal immigration, Social Security, and his controversial 2007 push to vaccinate Texas schoolgirls against human papillomavirus, a common sexually transmitted that can lead to cervical cancer. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, whose standing among Republicans has slipped dramatically since Perry entered the race, said she was "offended" by Perry's executive order, which included an opt-out provision for parents who did not want the vaccine.

When who was it ... Romney talked to him about having four aces because he is in a conservative state... Perry said that he was fine until he started talking poker....

Perry, had he been Reagan ... would have said, “This is no time for a CARD GAME GAMBLE with our nation’s economic future....”

Man... I miss Reagan.

the vaccine has a higher death rate than the cancer

I think its safe to say, that that is simply not true (or at least one hell of an exaggeration).

Not that I agree with Perry, I think it was a mistake, but I don't think this drug is cyanide or something.

I see that the Republicans are not learning any lessons here, but engaging in demolition derby, instead. Don’t they get it that the Left is hoping that through these debates the public will be turned off and stay home. These are NOT the issues. This is ridiculous! The issue is the harm this president is doing and how are we going to go about recovering America, making her safe and healthy again. This is a waste of precious time.

The CDC is a government bureaucracy just like any other. Why would you trust their recommendation? I worked in Drug Development in a biotechnology company for several years. The Pharmas, the FDA, the NIH, and the CDC are not altruistic organizations only looking out for our best interests.

While I don't trust government agencies (pretty much any of them), I think the initial point that this particular drug has a higher death rate then cancer, could be a wee bit, untrue and would go into the kooky category (and no, I don't think it was right to do an executive order for this for kids).

I’ve read a few of your posts this evening. Kudos. You have a very realistic view.

Perry is a fine man, a good governor and has accomplished alot for Texas. Just ask the trial lawyers *snicker*

“He’s [Perry] our best bet if Palin doesn’t get in.”

Palin was on Fox right after the debate.

She took Bachmann’s side -strongly- against Perry on the vaccine.

On that issue:

Sarah is right.
Bachmann is right.
Rick S is right.

Perry is wrong.

Thanks for posting that information. Odd how those who hate Perry here have never mentioned the opt-out before [at least in threads I`ve read]. That makes this entire subject a dead issue to me.

I`m also starting to respect the guy for actually getting in the race and taking the hits from all the others and coming away unscathed. Of those running, he`s the only one I could muster up real enthusiasm for.

- It was either in-state tuition for those student or putting them on the Dole. (What kind of an either/or choice is that, as if notifying ICE was not an option?)
That is known in philosophy (logic) parlance as: escaping between the horns of a dilema, i.e., one comes up with another reasonable alternative that necessarily follows.

Too many people don't know how to think (feeling, i.e., emoting, one's way through life is NOT thinking); their only recourse to logical rebutal is anger.

Anger in any argument is a sure sign of either a weak position, or having a huge emotional investment in said position causing anger. There is NO emotion in logical; it is cold, calculated, empirical and objective (w/out regard to preference, tradition, ovulatory cycle or other emotionally predisposing condition).

I will posit that America needs a rational and logical policy to deal with immigrant scofflaws that have a huge potential to become exceedingly productive members of our society after benefiting from educational programs available to them through the largess of the American taxpayer.

“the vaccine has a higher death rate than the cancer.
this was about money”

Do you really believe that? More people have died from the vaccine than from the cancer? Do you have a source for this information because I have never read anything like that.
Or are you just throwing it out there?

Here are the Gardasil facts:

“Deaths (none reported related to the vaccine)
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/vaccines/hpv/gardasil.html

As of June 22, 2011....32 reports confirmed, there was no unusual pattern or clustering to the deaths that would suggest that they were caused by the vaccine and some reports indicated a cause of death unrelated to vaccination.

Perry was weak on his answer. Illegal aliens are prohibited by law from working nor can they legally collect benefits (the dole.) So why should Texas taxpayers subside them?

The haters know that the opt out was part of it as it’s been brought up every time the issue is brought up. They are just using demagoguery to push their position. Facts don’t matter.

Reagan had a great wit, and awesome timing at humor and one liners.

He probably would have cracked a joke about how poker is like politics, you can go pretty far if your a very good bluffer, hell, you can even be governor of the state of Mass..............LOL.

“Rick Perry does not inspire me and while he undoubtably would be a major improvement over the current occupant of the White House, I do not see him advancing the conservative cause at all. Why are so many of us willing to settle for another mediocrity?”

Yes, that is my question also. It is all about the party, not the country. Perry is acceptable to the party. He is just another politician to most of us outside the party but that is not important. We have to accept what we are given. NOT!

Palin IS different. She took on both parties and WON! Can the Republican Party really not SEE this? Or does she just scare them as much as she scares the Democrats?

Things have got to change. Good ole boy politics aint gonna cut it any more.

Medicine should be between you and you doctor. The only exception is communicably diseases which are a danger to the public.

What do you think a sexually transmitted viral disease is if not a "communicable disease"?

HPV infection IS a "Communicable Disease".

Websters Dictionary. Communicable disease: "an infectious disease transmissible (as from person to person) by direct contact with an affected individual or the individual's discharges or by indirect means (as by a vector)

The widespread prevalence of the virus in the community is exactly why it is a public health concern. Vaccine programs can eradicate the virus and make it extinct within a geographic region. If the virus stays in the community, it spreads like wildfire through the entire community.

"But, what do I care? My daughter is as pure as the driven snow!"

Maybe she is and maybe you kept her locked up at home until her wedding day. But, what about your future son-in-law? Did you keep him locked up too?

As far as the "communicable disaease" aspect of a sexually transmitted virus is concerned, a virgin bride on her wedding night will not only sleep with her new husband. She will also sleep with all the women her husband ever slept with and all the men that they ever slept with and all the women that they ever slept with and all the men that they ever slept with and on and on and on ....

What do you think the chances are that Levi Johnston was a virgin before he got to Bristol?

As many as 60% of men ages 18 to 70 are infected with HPV

Is HPV a communicable disease that affects the entire community and affects even the purest, monogamous daughter of the strictest father?

You betcha!

And Rick Perry said he was wrong.

So how freakin long are they going to keep harping on this and attacking a fellow conservative that may have a chance at beating Obama?

When are they going to start attacking Obama?

The longer they have Perry on the defensive - he cannot attack Obama either.

Sarah said the other day that the candidates need to quit attacking each other and attack Obama instead BUT
she then goes on Fox News and attacks Perry.

Unreal

Palin will never get my vote no matter what.

I would expect this from Bachman or Romney boy but Palin should have been above it.

And I’m done talking about this because that made me MAD!

This Texan will be voting for Perry 2012!

The rest of em can kiss my a—————
