I am extremely proud of all of our brave young men and women in the military, but somehow, having obummer award this to a fine, heroic young man just seems to cheapen it somehow.

Sgt. Meyers: Thank you for your sacrifice and service.

Mr. President: You'll do just about anything to divert attention, won't you?

I think it's a Freudian slip by the AP to show Obama shielded behind the Marine.

The caption at Yahoo Reads:
“President Barack Obama awards the Medal of Honor to former Marine Cpl. Dakota Meyers, 23, from Greensburg, Ky., Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House in Washington. Meyers was in Afghanistan’s Kunar province in Sept. 2009 when he repeatedly ran through enemy fire to recover the bodies of fellow American troops. He is the first living Marine to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)”

My understanding is that there are NO FORMER Marines. (with a very, very few dishonorable exceptions)

He is a former Cpl. - now a Sgt. Good intentions, poor writing/editing.

“I think it’s a Freudian slip by the AP to show Obama shielded behind the Marine.”

I thought that with the last MOH recipient, but found pics of presidents doing it from behind and in front.

It’s just another photo op for the fraud-in-chief.

No. The qualifier “former” is acceptable.
The qualifier “ex” is disputed, with exceptions.

Did any body else all of the living MoH recipients in the front rows, or how about when the president asked for those who were rescued by [then Cpl, now former Sgt of MARINES] to stand.

I for one am not worthy to stand in the shadows of the living MoH recipients!

I took a moment to just look at the face, especially the eyes, of this good, young man. STRONG, humble, honorable, AMERICAN... He would do what is right in ANY situation, I believe.

The war in Iraq began in 1991, resumed in 2003, and then turned into a counterinsurgency war. The war in Afghanistan began in 2001 and continues. However, only since Obama to office in 2009 have living recipients received the Medal of Honor. Does anyone else wonder why?

It’s because the military was taking a lot of criticism for being too stingy with the award. Those Soldiers that 0 has awarded the medal to deserve it without question.

I wonder if it is a longstanding practice for living MOH winners to be invited to have a beer with the President of the US, or just something Obama started.

He may have thought that he got a boost from having a beer with Sgt. Crowley and figured it might help to have people see him having a beer with Sgt. Meyer.

I dislike the beer photo op. It is Ubama trivializing the heroic deeds and sterling character of the Marine hero, SGT Meyers. Ubama must bring others he cannot comprehend or respect down to his level. I am tired of it. The President should only be seen having the most dignified interaction with this Great American.

Correct. The Marine Corps stands alone among the service branches in it’s teaching both it’s History and Customs of the Service to new recruits in Boot Camp.

It is drummed into you that “ex” is an unexceptable qualifier when referring to non active/retired duty Marines. “Former Marine’ is the correct term.....

Marines have always made an exception to this when talking about people like John Murtha, whose actions in civilian life have brought discredit to the Corps we all love so much. To a Marine this is the ultimate insult.

Spot on.

Sgt Meyer is receiving his well earned MOH going in and helping to save the lives of those not already killed - and for retrieving the BODIES of Four Marines - that did not have to die.
He is now out of the service. I would like to have seen him turn, after the medal is pinned on, and address the nation as to WHY these men died - as he did in this news piece. (Perhaps he will in future interviews. I pray he does. He could save many more of our troops in the futurs.)

Sgt.Meyer:
“The team was ambushed and came under sustained Taliban fire and rocket attack. However, U.S. commanders repeatedly denied the request to unleash artillery rounds and provide air cover, under rules of engagement then recently put in place to reduce civilian casualties.

“U.S. commanders, citing new rules to avoid civilian casualties, rejected repeated calls to unleash artillery rounds at attackers dug into the slopes and tree lines—despite being told repeatedly that they weren’t near the village,” Landay reported. “We waited more than an hour for U.S. helicopters to arrive, despite earlier assurances that air cover would be five minutes away.”

By the time helicopters arrived, four U.S. Marines had been killed, ...”

America needs to wake up and demand this STOP. hussain’s ROE, that give the enemy the advantage - and they are loving it, have resulted in DOUBLE losses of our troops in it’s first year, 2009, TRIPLE in 2010 and on it’s way to to QUADRUPLE this year.

This is far from the first time we have lost troops directly due to his ROE that tie our soldiers hands and that refuses to give them air power. IT HAS TO STOP.

I won’t even get into what he has done regarding the Kunar Valley - High Treason. The media is quiet. The politicians are quiet. the American people keep their head in the sand. And our troops are fodder.

“Almost two-thirds (63 percent) of all deaths during the approximately 10 decades-old Afghanistan war have taken place since Obama officially became president in early 2009”

Do you give a damn? Will you repost this whenever you can? Will you email/tell everyone you know? Will YOU write a letter to the editor in your home town? Will YOU contact your reps and demand this change?

If WE don’t have our soldiers backs - who will? Certainly not the CICINO. He hates our military. He protects the other side.

WE need this man!

“He may have thought that he got a boost from having a beer with Sgt. Crowley and figured it might help to have people see him having a beer with Sgt. Meyer.”

Early on in his Administration, Obama sought to have some of the Marine Corps cashe’ rub off of him by playing B-Ball at Semper Fi Gym in Hawaii, and visting east coast Marine bases. It soon became apparent that he was not well liked, or accepted by Marines, and these visits ceased. Real tough to get by the troups that have their butts on the line....they can spot a phoney miles away.
