The serious problems Rick Perry faces in the primary and potential general election, outlined by Dick Morris in this video clip, are self-explanatory.

Perry leads primarily because many traditional Republican voters haven’t taken a close look at Perry. I was excited about him until I did. I agree with all the points Morris makes. Rick Perry is hardly a conservative and would be a poor choice for the GOP as illegal immigration and corruption come off the board as issues.
Romney won’t even be in the race come Florida. He’s toast.
But it doesn’t matter.
Even if the polls show Perry down by 20 against Obama, it doesn’t matter. Because I am talking about who wins the primary.
Perry has assembled the conservative coalition that Bush did in his 2000 run against McCain. And there is no path to the nomination for anyone for the republican nomination that doesn’t include the south. This is not an accident, the primaries are for the most part frontloaded with the most conservative states. Those easy victories create momentum and generate the donations needed to finish off the race early, for any strong conservative candidate, especially one from the south.
Morris and Rove are both Romney supporters. What would you expect either to say?
Being governor of Texas is hardly like being governor of Michigan, Ohio or Pennsylvania.
But Perry and Texas have their own problems - a $10 billion projected shortfall next year, surpassed only by California, Illinois and New Jersey. Eventually, even the cheerleaders, like you, will see the light.

The more the truth comes out, the more Perry will falter in the polls.
I here you. Listen to some of the hardcore rhetoric Reagan used in the 1960's, his harsh criticism of Ford in 1976, along with his personal attacks on Carter in 1980. Lots of folks were saying the same things about Reagan. I understand times are different but Perry needed to make a splash when he entered the race. Pussyfooting around would have gotten him nowhere.
Vetting candidates is good. Perry was elected three times and has been Governor for 11 years. Over the years I've read all the outstanding news items about Perry. His call for Texas succession; his EO on Gardasil; his opposition to SocSec calling it unconstitutional and now a ponzi scheme; charges of crony capitalism; his support for the Trans-Texas corridor; and his friendliness towards La Raza. Perry has been vetted his entire career.
With more primary season to go, I've made no decision yet. As I see it, right now Perry is playing more to the conservative base of the GOP. That WILL leave him open to attacks from the Democrat left and thier endless cohorts in the Obama media. Perry is also open to criticism from some on the right who want an ideal candidate, even though there is no such thing. In the last few weeks Perry has received his fair share of hostile rhetoric. That is how politics is played in America. Imo, folks need to look past the innuendo, gossip and personal attacks.
Bottom line. If the choices are Romney and Perry, I know who I'm voting for. A little Reagan optimism is what you need.

That doesn’t matter either because their is no viable alternative in the race.
SO... you one day wake up and say... i’m not so sure about Perry anymore... let me take a second look at the others..

Romney - liberal yankee RINO flip flopper used car dealer who makes Perry look like Reagan by comparison... nope

hm.... well there isn’t anyone one else! I guess I’ll keep supporting Perry!
Tell me the name of the candidate in this race that combines adequate levels of conservatism with an an obvious path to the nomination/general election victory and I’ll vote for him.
Dick Morris hasn’t gotten too much right. I don’t even read his garbage when it comes into my email, I delete it. I know he brags about how good he is but his strike out rate is close to a 100%.

I never thought I would say this but I agree. Both Romney and Perry have ties to big business but at least Romney comes across as honest. But, I would prefer neither.
