The absurdity is what makes it seem off.

I had a jerk boss try to block my unemployment and told the man at the DOL that I jumped on my desk and the entire car dealership had a meeting about how ugly I was and they didn’t want me around because of that.

The guy just looked at him and said “I have a letter of recommendation from her previous employer where she worked for four years and you expect me to believe that? And you’re lucky she’s not my wife with that crack about her looks because I’d be meeting you in the parking lot.”

If that’s true, then I have no issue with the investigation. That kind of thing shouldn’t be going on no matter what kind of store it is.

There is zero Constitutional authority to go after anyone's private hiring practices no matter how distasteful you might find them. It is a private matter.

If someone wants to hang a sign over their store door stating that my race, religion, or eye color isn't welcome, that is their business.

Yes, I'm well aware of the law on this, but the law is uncostitutional. The Constitutional issue of fair treatment applies to the government, not private individuals.

Back in the late 70s a Hispanic fellow I knew applied for a mid-level job at a very well known audio/speaker manufacturer in the Boston area (sort of sounds like Bozo). After the round of interviews the HR manager told him that he did well for a Hispanic. I think he got an offer but didn’t take it. He shrugged it off and ended up with a better position elsewhere. He was a really nice guy and quite sharp.

FWIW, I’ve never seen a black salesperson in Radio Shack, and they’ve got a severe over-representation of young white males with flabby physiques. I don’t bond with that. However, I’m there to make a purchase with an informed opinion and I go in without one, generally speaking. They know stuff and love to share what they know.

If only they didn’t try to pry out my name and address at the register, even for a cash sale, it’d be an overall positive experience.

Point is, I feel most comfortable with salespeople who are knowledgeable, when I’m not.

But when I am knowledgeable, the only thing they can do to make me comfortable is stay away from me.

I think any business that behaves in a racist manner is foolish. I also believe that any private business should be able to hire or fire anyone they want for any or no reason without the govt or self righteous busybodies sticking their noses into the matter.

I don’t know who their competitors are, my only point was that they are already open in East Peoria. They had their grand opening yesterday and according to local news this morning, 6,000 people showed up.

The place is huge, I’m told that it even has a bowling alley in it. I was in one in either Oklahoma or Kansas, I don’t remember which, it was huge too but no bowling alley.

People around here are hurting for jobs and Bass Pro is providing a few hundred for the thousands who applied.

Agreed; but I can not believe a Human Resource Executive would make that kind of statement to an investigator.

If the investigator was a leftist, the executive could have simply been reading the Constitution and the lefty would have heard "HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE!..."

Unfortunately, the Journal article has several pretty damning quotes from people in Bass Pro HR or management.

I think the larger proportion of non-Hispanic white males in general may simply reflect the fact that this is the major component of the inland fishing world. A woman (I don’t know of what color) recently won a spot in their big fishing championship, however, so there are exceptions, and I’m sure they had some knowledgeable black or female or whatever employees as well. However, being knowledgeable is key, regardless of the effect on the “demographic” of their hiring.

That said, it does appear that they had a few bigots in local management positions.

However, I doubt that this was company policy in any way. I would think that individual complaints should have been dealt with individually, but it sounds as if what they are trying to do is go after the company for something that was (a) not its policy and (b) which it probably could not have controlled 100% anyway, especially if there were never any individual complaints to the company itself. I do think there’s an attempt to go after that company because it is probably symbolic to Obama of a lot of things the left doesn’t like: Southerners, sportsmen, etc. And because it’s successful.

Sam, I was at a Hooters just last week and they were taking applications at the time. There were three young ladies there - all of whom I would have been happy to date in College - filling out applications. I walked past them on my way in and thought “There’s NO way any of them will get past this application.” Nothing at all wrong with those cute young ladies; it just occurred to me how well the brand imaging is carried out there. Made me wonder how many women might apply there, just to get some sort of personal “validation”.

I've received excellent advice on numerous occasions from black salesmen at our local Radio Shack. Also, Hubby drags me to Bass Pro as often as he can. On one visit, we bought an expensive fish finder after getting in depth comparisons of all their models - from a black salesman. I'm not buying the allegations in this story.

I've seen black checkers and clerks at the Bass Pro shop in my town. Is the store supposed to employ blacks only?

The federal government has hired black bureaucrats in vastly disproportionate numbers, so perhaps the answer is "yes."

Obama shows yet again that he can wield the power of the executive against anyone he pleases to hurt their business.

Last month it was Gibson Guitars who donate to republicans.

This month it is Johnny Morris who leans republican.

Next month will there be an announcement by NASCAR for the 2012 season 25 percent of the Sprint Cup Series drivers will be black?
