The stench from Washington is getting stronger. Rep. Darrell Issa has called for a special prosecutor to get to the bottom of the festering mess known as Operation Fast and Furious.
Hatched somewhere in the bowels of the Justice Department, that misbegotten scheme had the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives deliberately allowing high-powered guns to walk from Arizona and elsewhere into Mexico: Our agents turned a blind eye toward the straw purchasers who were funneling the weapons to the drug cartels.
The (dumb) idea was to trace cross-border arms trafficking, and so prove the (false) claim that 90 percent of the guns seized in Mexican drug war zones originate in the US. (The real figure is closer to 17 percent.) But, as Issas Oversight and Government Reform committee continues its investigation, that pretension has evaporated -- and a major international scandal has been born.
Marisela Morales, the Mexican attorney general, estimates that at least 200 Mexicans have been killed with Fast and Furious weapons -- among them, a powerful Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle that took down a federal helicopter. Morales, who calls the program a betrayal of her country, told the Los Angeles Times that she first learned about Fast and Furious from news reports, and that US officials still havent briefed their Mexican counterparts on it.
She shouldnt feel lonely: The administration has been notably unforthcoming to everybody on this one. Eric Holders Justice has engaged in a rearguard battle against Issas committee -- turning over subpoenaed documents only slowly and heavily redacted, making witnesses unavailable and transferring or retiring implicated officials such as former ATF head Kenneth Melson. Issa has publicly accused Holder & Co. of gaming congressional investigators.
Yet the drip, drip, drip of revelations continues. A third Fast and Furious gun has now...

As best as I know, he's stated in a telephone interview that he WANTS a special prosecutor, but I'm unaware that he's made any formal requests for one. Does anyone else know otherwise?
> Issa is calling for a special prosecutor. I wonder what the next step is into making that happen...
How about this for a next step. The administration needs a continuing resolution to operate. Announce that there will be no funding in any continuing resolution for the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives until a truly independent special prosecutor is named.
Then, of course, follow up by doing just that.
is sometimes used as a synonym for Independent Counsel, but under the former law authorizing the Independent Counsel, the appointment was made by a special panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The Independent Counsels law expired in 1999, and was effectively replaced by Department of Justice regulation 28 CFR Part 600, under which Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald was appointed to look into the Plame affair.A quick reading of 28 CFR Part 600 suggests that the Attorney General, with few exceptions, decides whether to appoint a special prosecutor, decides who it shall be and then gets to tells him how to proceed. If my reading is correct, asking the Attorney General to appoint a special prosecutor could cause Holder a bit of embarrassment initially but the chances of getting the goods on Fast and Furious that way are not great.
Holder and Obama are going down together. There is no way Obama will be able to accept Holder stepping down.
At a certain point, you have to hold Obama accountable (for Holder). It is way past beyond that.”
From your lips to God’s ears.......
Of course it does but holder is at the point of the current sword and the sword should be pushed home starting with him.
If we manage to save the Constitution by electing a conservative president, the first act should be to fire all democrat appointees in all agencies and that includes the Joint Chiefs. Bush should have done that to the clinton generals and admirals.
Send Holder to Mexico where he can rot in a Mexican prison.
There is also a current trial in Illinois that may provide more evidence.
Justice Dept. Accused of Giving Immunity to Mexican Drug Cartel
US Court Documents Claim Sinaloa Cartel Is Protected by US Government
There is also the Florida gun running
I could not agree with you more.
Yeah, that would be fine if I didn’t think that the criminal government of mexico was also part of this.
Issa said he will ask for a special prosecutor as soon as the hearings end. When a special prosecutor is assigned, hearings MUST stop; Issa said he wants to make sure they’ve completed their work before shutting it down with a call for S.P.
You want to guarantee that he’ll see it? Post it up on cleanupatf.org.
He and his staff are watching that site like a hawk.
Its only hell if something is done about it. But alas, more ‘Rat crooks with above average melanin will skate.
This is a recent executive order that seems to shift more power to Holder and DOJ. Which would also shifts more control over information to Os inner circle
President Obama Levels Executive Order At Zetas
Under the new strategy, the Justice Department and the FBI would appear to have heightened roles in the government's effort to tackle transnational threats.
In that sense, F&F could be a gift from heaven.
One of the major problems the next President will have to deal with is all the radicals embedded in career positions within the Civil Service.
I refer to the radicals that Clinton appointed...and that Bush couldn't be bothered to deal with...plus the radicals that Obama has appointed. As you know Civil Service rules make it extremely difficult to fire a career government employee.
If one combed thru every department for anybody who was associated with Fast & Furious in any way -- you might well have reason to fire them for cause.
This simple act could perhaps eliminate thousands of socialist agitators inside the government.
Treason is a cause of its own Any patriot worth their salt would demand the rssignations of every single wonk at state and every doj employee from the janitors to the contractors who fill the damn vending machines. Then sweep the dod with a mine sweeper and make every cia and dia and nsa spook take polygraph tests. every one of them. 75% of them would nd up either in jail or in rubber rooms.
The cartels tortured and killed the brother of a prominent Mexican DA —his pre-execution video is famous.
Why not use passive-aggression and demagoguery, and invite his sister and surviving family up to the USA for some monument-seeing and teary-eyed testimony for the cameras?
That ought to do wonders for the Hispanic vote, you know?
“Your poor papa —did you love him very much, before they shot him through the skull...?”
“Tell me about how you laughed and played as a child with your loving brother, before you became a DA in Mexico...”
“Were you often scared for the safety of your auntie —were you scared she’d be shot by bad drug men...?”
Hey this is ALL stuff the left would do...!
Their formula is as simple as it is reliable: “Convervatives hate poor brown people, while lefties LOVE them...”
Let’s take them at their word, and let them live up to it.
So far it’s legalistic, but you have to make it poignant and emotional so that average people in the street will care and remember.
Destroy Obama’s ratings with the Hispanic community —he killed 200 of them (so far).
Your previous post to me:
“The NEW president should demand the resignations of every person living or dead in the doj.”
Current post:
“Treason is a cause of its own. Any patriot worth their salt would demand the rssignations of every single wonk at state and every doj employee from the janitors to the contractors who fill the damn vending machines. Then sweep the dod with a mine sweeper and make every cia and dia and nsa spook take polygraph tests. every one of them. 75% of them would nd up either in jail or in rubber rooms.”
I see you have developed your proposal. Now your talking!!!
