The stench from Washington is getting stronger. Rep. Darrell Issa has called for a special prosecutor to get to the bottom of the festering mess known as Operation Fast and Furious.
Hatched somewhere in the bowels of the Justice Department, that misbegotten scheme had the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives deliberately allowing high-powered guns to walk from Arizona and elsewhere into Mexico: Our agents turned a blind eye toward the straw purchasers who were funneling the weapons to the drug cartels.
The (dumb) idea was to trace cross-border arms trafficking, and so prove the (false) claim that 90 percent of the guns seized in Mexican drug war zones originate in the US. (The real figure is closer to 17 percent.) But, as Issas Oversight and Government Reform committee continues its investigation, that pretension has evaporated -- and a major international scandal has been born.
Marisela Morales, the Mexican attorney general, estimates that at least 200 Mexicans have been killed with Fast and Furious weapons -- among them, a powerful Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle that took down a federal helicopter. Morales, who calls the program a betrayal of her country, told the Los Angeles Times that she first learned about Fast and Furious from news reports, and that US officials still havent briefed their Mexican counterparts on it.
She shouldnt feel lonely: The administration has been notably unforthcoming to everybody on this one. Eric Holders Justice has engaged in a rearguard battle against Issas committee -- turning over subpoenaed documents only slowly and heavily redacted, making witnesses unavailable and transferring or retiring implicated officials such as former ATF head Kenneth Melson. Issa has publicly accused Holder & Co. of gaming congressional investigators.
Yet the drip, drip, drip of revelations continues. A third Fast and Furious gun has now...

Its amazing that as much pressure has been brought to bare on this administration re: Gunrunner with very little assistance from the mainstream news media.
More correctly, "In the Oval Office of the White House."Something this large had to come from Obama or one of his top handlers.
Issa should invite the Mexican attorney general to testify. It would make the Republicans look sympathetic towards Mexicans and it would make 0bama look worse.
They’re coming for you Holder, you criminal POS democrat. Indict, prosecute and incarcerate the bastard.
FUBO & FAD
Issa is calling for a special prosecutor. I wonder what the next step is into making that happen. DOJ is probably busy, trying to clean up evidence.
Has he truly called for a special prosecutor? First I’ve heard that such a request has been made
Prison for you, Holder.
THAT........ is one HELL of an idea.....Rep. ISSA, if you are lurking, this is the way to go!!!
“Issa should invite the Mexican attorney general to testify.”
I concur! What a show that would make!
It goes higher than holder and covers more agencies than just doj. We have the cia, nsa, and state depsrtment involved in this as well as the White House. THIS is huge, involves national security, and more countries than just Mexico.
Gunwalker is another form of Cloward-Piven.
DOJ is probably busy, trying to clean up evidence.
Its guaranteed that anybody who was ordered to do something illegal kept copies and maybe mad clandestine recordings. All Issa has to do is find the right guy and the house of cards will come tumbling down. Right now, everybody is holding onto their printed emails and recordings not wanting to jeopardize their federal pensions.
Exactly what the article says.
Holder and Obama are going down together. There is no way Obama will be able to accept Holder stepping down.
At a certain point, you have to hold Obama accountable (for Holder). It is way past beyond that.
Issa should invite the Mexican attorney general to testify.
I sent an e-mail to Congressman Issa and asked him to invite the Mexican attorney general to testify at the Fast and Furious hearings. I hope other Freepers will do the same. I can’t wait to see it on Univsion.
This is the second or third time that I've read about Issa calling for a special prosecutor.
