Hispanic population outstrips estimates

WASHINGTON, March 15 (UPI) -- At 38.7 million, the Hispanic population in the United States is larger than expected, an analysis of the 2010 Census by the Pew Hispanic Center indicates.

The 2010 Census counted nearly 600,000 more Hispanics than estimated in 28 states, the Pew Center said Tuesday.

The gap between the 2010 count and estimates of the Hispanic population by the Census Bureau were widest in states with relatively small Hispanic populations, Pew said.

It was more than 10 percent higher than expected in Alabama, Louisiana and Kansas.

"Hispanics are in some places growing faster than we had thought," said Pew demographer Jeffrey Passel. "This sort of broad pattern suggests immigration into these new areas was a bit higher."

Data released from 33 states indicated Hispanics accounted for 58 percent of population growth in the past decade.

I prefer the traditional Anglo oriented culture of America. This is an invasion of an alien culture that is not content with the 15 Hispanic nations south of the Rio Grande. They have to make America Hispanic too or at least large parts of it. They would not be succeeding except that Americans are too nice and have rolled over for this invasion. Plus Americans became too good to do certain jobs. Too lazy.

The huge family stereotype of immigrants only lasts one generation...in my opinion. I see lots of asians and mexicans from HUGE families who grow up in america as americans and then all their siblings have ONE child. They have 12 brothers and sisters, 50 aunts and uncles, about 2 hundred cousins...but they choose to have only one child. Maybe two. And all their siblings and all their cousins do the same. There is something about modern western culture that makes people want only one or two kids...unless you are a white person, then you seem to want zero kids, a toyota prius, an iphone, an ipad, and two cats.

I disagree. Citizenship should be harder. The test is a joke and 7 years is not long enough to Americanize these days. Both of my parents are naturalized citizens.

the official number for hispanics is 16.5%. I say the reality is about double that when you count ALL hispanics illegal and legal and illiterate that don’t get counted. Double 16.5% is 33%.

There's things to worry about and then there's thing to be deeply concerned about. The Hispanics can be controlled with a simple document check. Islam is another story.

For 20 years or more the government and media have been telling us there are about 8 to 12 million illegals in the USA and about 1 million new illegals coming in every year.

There are legal Hispanics and illegal Hispanics. What is the breakdown?

I've read several times that about 1/3 of Hispanics in the US are illegal. And that's pretty consistent with the low ball 11 million illegals the government estimates, if you up estimate a few million, that is right around 1/3 of 39 million.

People should keep in mind that if we ever enforced immigration laws, that would force many self-deportations and all the demographic projections we see would not come about.

I think the Roman Empire scenario does bear close resemblance to our own in the sense that prior to the Empire's collapse, people who were not Roman Citizens were recruited into the Roman army, required to learn Latin and served under officers who were Roman citizens - at least at the higher levels. For the most part, they were required to learn to be Romans, so that when they were finally discharged and given citizenship papers they had become de facto Romans.

After the massive civil wars in the Second Century, a lot of the Roman officer class were killed off. The Empire then began the insidious practice of recruiting non-citizens into their military forces, allowing them to serve under their own tribal chiefs, not requiring them to acculturate, and allowing them to fight with their own weapons and tactics.

In the case of the Goth, they had pressed against the eastern borders of the Empire in an effort to escape the Huns and sought asylum and protection from the Romans. The latter allowed them in, exploited them and attempted to disarm them. Eventually the Goths rose up and killed the Emperor in a battle and defeated the Roman Army.

However, the Goths DID admire the Empire and its civilization and attempted under one of their king, Theodoric, to fuse the Goths and Romans as a people and bring back the Empire.

I guess the moral for us is to REQUIRE new citizens to learn English and learn to accept our culture, while keeping their own, should they so desire.
