Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry has said that he is open to sending American troops to Mexico to help battle drug cartels. Mr Perry, the Texas governor, likened the situation to Colombia, where the government accepted American military support in battling drug trafficking.
Mexico's government, however, has been opposed to foreign forces in its territory.
'It may require our military in Mexico working in concert with them to kill these drug cartels and to keep them off of our border and to destroy their networks.
'I dont know all the scenarios that are out there but I think it is very important that we work with them, to keep that country from failing.'

Continue to grasp.
There's the plan!
that’s stupid.
mexicans are not going to accept gringo military in their country.
I guess nobody thought about NAFTA and the hundreds of large American companies and American citizens working there?
Sure, if it gets bad enough there the companies could be moved, but its not likely that it would be before the disruption tanks our economy.
The chance that the companies would come back here are slim, they would just move from there.
The dems must have run some really poor candidates for Perry to keep winning. This guy is an idiot.
Maybe he could send some troops to the border.
Or build a fence
OR not entice illegals to cross the border with promises of special preferential treatment if they go to college.
What does Perry plan to do about the corruption that is rampant throughout the Mexican government, law enforcement, and military that prevents or hinders attempts at stopping the drug cartels? If Mexico were truly run by Rule Of Law, they could exterminate the cartels and their members. Fix the corruption first...if possible.
Did you read the article or just the headline (that was taken out of context)?
As soon as we bring it to their turf, they'll bring it right back to ours. San Diego and El Paso are two of the safest big cities in America. This is only because the cartels want them to be. If we give the cartels a war, they'll give us one right back. This won't be a war thousands of miles away. It'll be here. Are we ready for nightclub bombings in San Diego's Gaslamp? UTEP college students getting machinegunned in their classrooms? We'd better be because this is exactly what we'll get if we pick a fight with the cartels.
It's not our fight. Not yet anyways. It's Mexico's problem. Let them deal with it.
“This is insane. You would have the SAME situation in Mexico that we face in Afghanistan. You would NEVER be able to turn your back on a Mexicn soldier without wondering if a bullet was aimed at your back.
Rick Perry has just lost another ten points for me...not that he had that many in the first place. This shows an astounding lack of judgement.”
I AGREE with you. I’d rather we seal off the border than try to go in there and PACIFY the place. It will be no different than the Middle East.
They can have their drug war - and KEEP IT.
How about we start busting the cartels biggest customer instead? Namely leftist Hollywood? They’re blatant as hell about it yet they never get busted. Look at Charlie Sheen “Hello everybody, I have a suitcase full of coke”.
Going into Mexico would be a prelude to the NAU (North American Union). That would include America, Canada and Mexico. As in the EU, it wouldn’t work and just set up a dictatorship. What we do need is a 10 mile DMZ on the Mexican side of the border and make it a shooting range and bombing range. We don’t need boots on the ground, just planes in the air and warn the Mexican government what’s going to happen if they don’t fix things.
I read another article today that said the internal Mexican drup war is now pretty much down to the Zetas and Sinolian cartels battling each other for control of routes & territory.
One solution the U.S. could use is to help fund, organize and provide intel to Mexican versions of the Columbian “Los Pepes.” They can start killing off the family members of the cartels tit of tat.
It definitely had an impact on the outcome in the Columbian drug wars. (Read Mark Bowden’s Book “Killing Pablo” for more details).
i read the article.
did you?
it doesn’t matter if the u.s. is working in concert with the mexicans; it’s still intrusive.
Hey this ddue is against a wall, against mass deportations, against cutting off the welfare and other bennies and he wants to send troops down there??
He’s just asking for millions of new immigrants
He did not say he was going send troops to Mexico.
Go after the disgusting Hollywood crowd who abuse drugs in the most horrifying manner. Clean up that crowd and half the problem would probably disappear.
That's the chance you take when you leave America to invest or reside in some 4th world cess pit.
American citizens are always free to come back home.
LBJ was criticized for thinking he was "Texas Ranger To The World", but that is exactly how our government has conducted itself for most of the last 60 years.
We are broke.
In fact, we are so far beyond broke we may never find our way back.
We can no longer afford to nursemaid the entire globe.
And we can see our efforts are not appreciated nor are they very effective.
It is time to concentrate on the well being of America and our one or two true friends around the world.
Let the rest of them sort it out on their own.
I cringe at the thought of Perry wanting troops for Mexico. Mexico has troops and thousands of men to fight the cartels.
What next? What a damned mess. The problem is......Americans usng drugs and creating the demand. Hike the penalty for the drug users. This disease rehab stuff does not seem to work and DARE isn’t working either. Drug users
are a cancer that is killing our way of life.
Thanks for posting that. Sounds reasonable and rational.
