Poll: Romney Takes First, Perry and Cain Tie for Second
Wall Street Journal ^ | Oct. 4, 2011 | Danny Yadron

After weeks of uneven debate performances and criticism over his stance on illegal immigrants and vaccinations, former GOP presidential front-runner Rick Perry tied for second place with Herman Cain in a Washington Post/ABC News poll out Tuesday. Both took 16%, trailing former Mr. Romney who continues to have the backing of a quarter of GOP primary voters. The same survey last month showed Texas Gov. Perry leading former Massachusetts Gov. Romney 29% to 25%.

It’s the second national poll in a week showing Mr. Romney moving back into first as Mr. Perry’s new-candidate shine has begun to wear off. (The earlier poll by Fox News is here.) Meantime, a slew of polls in early voting states has shown the former governor leading the primary fray while also performing best against President Barack Obama in a hypothetical contest.

The numbers still make it clear that among all the candidates, no one has an outright majority and the meaning of any “leader” at this point, Perry one week and Romney the next, is, in the absence of any majority, outweighed by the fact that more people are, collectively, in favor of someone other than the “leader”.

I think Romney will not be the beneficiary of a tightening race; that the votes of those who “get out of the race”, whether its Huntsman, Cain, Perry or anyone, will go mostly NOT to Romney - leaving him with the loyal but minority base he has.

That’s just my opinion and watchword - that it is still very early and these early polls have less importance than those who publish them want us to give them.

Perry is the ONLY electable conservative?? Conservative. Who do we give in state tuition to next? Illegal Chineese aliens? His stance on the border fence and the illegal situation makes him anything but conservative

The good news is that Romney simply cannot crack the 25-30% range, no matter who his opponents are.

You've got it. Romney has the country-club clique cornered, but that's not enough. The Pubblie Party hacks could see that, so they sought another candidate who could fake conservative credentials...Slick Rick Perry! Unfortunately Perry couldn't fool enough people, and the hacks couldn't get fatso Christie to run. They are panicked at the thought that the real majority--the conservative base plus the millions of fiscally conservative independents--might nominate someone like Cain, Palin, or Bachmann. It's the end of their world. Tough shiite, country-clubbers.

Perry was our only hope the stop Romney.>/i>

We might as well all just find a dark corner and slit our wrists! It's all over! Boo Hoo Hoo! What has happened to you Texans? James Bowie, David Crockett and the other Texans who died defending the Alamo must be puking in their graves. It is so early in the contest that no one can predict who the nominee will be at this point.

Gov. Perry brought these problems on himself. The primary process is intended to weed out the people who are not able to compete and strengthens those who can. So get a grip. No disrespect intended but I don't think the country is ready for another compassionate conservative who thinks he is entitled to force what he knows is best on others and gave in state tuition to illegal aliens. I like and admire former President Bush a great deal, but I don't think that GW Part Deux would have a chance in the general election.

Because Milt Perry and Rick Romney are merely different faces of the same GOP Establishment coin.

Perry is the "compassionate conservative" face ala both GW Bushes while Romney is the GOP Liberal face ala Bob Dole/John McCain.

The Conservative base of the GOP is tired of being told to vote for the Democrat Lite business as usual Establishment candidate.

They want real Leadership from the GOP, not empty suit Democrat Lite echos.

No, what a lot of conservatives are saying is that if you support the invasion of illegals across our southern borders, then you are not their man. I tend to agree with them.

I tend to agree with a more knowledgeable source....

Minuteman Project Founder Jim Gilchrist Endorses Gov. Perry for Re-election

February 24, 2010

DALLAS – Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project which operates within the law to support the enforcement of existing immigration policy.

“Texas taxpayers have been taking it on the chin because Washington, D.C., politicians refuse to perform their obligation to secure our borders,” Gilchrist said. “We now have to rely on real leaders at the state level who are not afraid to take a firm stance to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws. That’s why I fully endorse Rick Perry for Governor of Texas. He has a clear record of decisive action to secure our borders, stop the illegal drug and human trafficking trade, and is very clearly the right choice for voters in Texas to fight illegal immigration.”

Gilchrist founded the multi-ethnic Minuteman Project on Oct. 1, 2004, after years of frustrated efforts trying to get a neglectful U.S. government to simply enforce existing immigration laws. Gilchrist is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and recipient of the Purple Heart award for wounds sustained while serving with an infantry unit in Vietnam, 1968-1969. Gilchrist is a passionate defender of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and an avid supporter of law enforcement organizations.

“Until the federal government decides to fulfill its obligation and start defending our national borders, Texas will do what it takes to keep Texans safe,” said Gov. Perry. “Those efforts not only involve our law enforcement community, but also groups of concerned citizens like the Minuteman Project. I am honored to win the backing of a leader who not only shares my love of America, but also my concerns about Washington’s failure to adequately secure our borders. With the support of concerned citizens like the Minuteman Project and our world-class law enforcement personnel here in Texas we will continue to fill the gap left by Washington’s failure.”

September 28, 2011-"Of all the Republican candidates he’s the one who stands out the most on wanting to deal with this issue and put it to bed and resolve the problems,” said Jim Gilchrist, co-founder of the Minutemen Project, a Tea Party-aligned activist group that monitors activity along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Perry is Romney lite. Why waste out time voting for either?

Could the Perry supporters finally grow up?

This blame everyone but Perry whining around here has reached the absurd stage.

If writing comments critical of this or that candidate on a website could destroy a political figure both 0 and Romney would be toast right now.

Perry took down Perry. NO one is to blame for his implosion but himself.

Cain endorsed Romney in 2008

And Perry supported Giuliani in 2008. So why should I buy any of Perry's current conservative rhetoric when his actual political endorsement record shows him supporting big Government pro Abortion, Anti Gun Liberal Giuliani just 3 years ago?

Last time around Jim Gilchrist supported “Mike Huckabee who is the worst GOP candidate on border security in the race for president. As Ark. gov. Huckster Huckabee assisted with the importation of illegals and used state funds to help them find jobs.”

from http://www.commonsensejunction.com/?page_id=1894

I could be wrong, but I am not so sure that Mr. Gilchrist’s views are in line with many of us here on illegal aliens. And maybe his endorsement didn’t help Huckabee any more than it seems to be helping Gov. Perry.

"The Pubblie Party hacks could see that, so they sought another candidate who could fake conservative credentials...Slick Rick Perry!"

Worng! The country club elites hate Perry. That's why when Perry entered the race and eclipsed Myth in the polls they went ballistic and desperately started trying to find someone else. Perry took some hits, and Myth still didn't move up, so they are now scrambling for a real RINO, because Perry is solidly conservative on every issue but immgration, and he's not as bad on that as his detractors make out. He's not for "open borders", and he's not for "amnesty". In fact he is better on the issue than Sarah Palin who has said she supports a "path to citixenship" for illegals already in the country.

As for "fake conservative credentials" how's this for some real ones?

1. Pro-gun.

2. Pro-life.

3. Pro death penalty.

4. Global warming skeptic.

5. Pro-military veteran.

6. Pro-drilling.

7. Pro-business, regulatory reform.

8. Has the guts to call Social Security what it is.

9. Strong on 10th ammendment, limited Federal government.

10. Has been a strong supporter of Israel for decades.

Hogwash.

.................

Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist on Wednesday endorsed Rick Perry for re-election as governor.

"I had to come 1,200 miles to find a governor who believes in a simple principle called the rule of law," Gilchrist said at the Crescent Hotel. "I'm here to encourage all you Texans to stand your ground and get out there and vote for this governor."

Gilchrist later added that "Perry has a clear record of decisive action to secure our borders, stop illegal drug and human trafficking trade and is very clearly the right choice for voters in Texas to fight illegal immigration."

I know I’m standing firm for Perry. I know he is an electable conservative and that he is the only one that could overtake Romney. I refuse to let politically inexperienced individuals take our one chance of getting a real conservative in The White House, and I refuse to let a couple less-than-perfect votes in small sections of much bigger issues make me go onto a loosing path.

I’m not flirting with less than what we need to win our country back. I want to see our nation to be blessed with strong, conservative leadership that will lead us and allow us the opportunity to quickly begin rebuilding and become the country we could be

Therefore, I’m standing by Governor Rick Perry even more than EVER before, and I hope those who understand what is at stake will also take this battle on with me.

I am not afraid nor am I ashamed, for I know the one I support IS conservative, is ELECTABLE, can beat Romney, and has a vision for America that our founding fathers would be proud of.

I know one thing for sure, it isn't going to be Herman "Race Baiter" Cain. In one fell swoop, he has instantly eliminated himself from consideration.

Perry needs a strong performance in the upcoming debate. Perhaps he will deliver now that he will no longer be the targeted front runner.

.
The “Hidden One” might as well stay home because after 6 years of Obama there won’t be a country left to destroy as there will only be a vague recollection of it.

Poor Perry the victim! That mean Mr. Cain answered a misleading question and said that the word “N****rhead” was insensitive. He also said that he didn't think that Gov. Perry was racist in any way. Gov. Perry has endured maybe one millionth of what Sarah Palin has had to endure and the cry baby Texans are squealing like stuck pigs. What a bunch of babies! You are the only ones making a big deal out of this and it is not helping your man.

Rick Perry is NO victim, and if Herman Cain can not stand up to political vetting, then he needs to get out of the race right now and let the big boys fight it out.
