Hot Air exclusive: Perry raises $17.1 million in Q3
Hot Air ^ | October 5, 2011 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 10/05/2011 5:51:08 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

A source on the Rick Perry campaign tells Hot Air that the Texas governor conducted some Texas-size fundraising in the third quarter. Coming in just a little over halfway through, Perry raised $17.1 million. That number would put Perry somewhere between $4-6 million ahead of Mitt Romney’s rumored total for Q3, according to this report last week from the Boston Globe. It’s also likely to far outpace Herman Cain’s fundraising or that of the other Republicans currently in the race.

The pace is even more impressive. Perry had 49 days in which to raise funds, rather than the full 92 days of the quarter, a rate of about $349,000 a day. The final debate in September didn’t hurt Perry’s fundraising rate, either. In the 42 days prior to the Orlando debate, their rate was $323K per day; in the eight days following the Orlando debate, that escalated to $478K per day. Perry’s on-line operation did well, too, drawing in $1.1 million — despite, as my source says, not driving contributions with their on-line ads.

Best of all for the Perry campaign, the burn rate in the first seven weeks was negligible. The campaign has $15 million cash on hand from its $17.1 million haul. Team Perry wanted 18,000 contributors in this quarter, and finished with over 22,000. More than 60% of their contributors donated $250 or less, which means that they can keep going back to them for more money.

The message that Perry’s campaign wants this report to send is that Perry isn’t going away — and that he can out-raise and out-organize the rest of the field. With Perry taking a big hit in polling, that message can’t come at a better time. However, Perry will need a good debate performance next week in order to truly right the ship and regain some of the momentum lost in the polls.

Yes. Everything is doing so well for you in Michigan. I can see why you wouldn’t want someone from a state that has welcomed businesses and where 48% of all the jobs in the country were filled.

Excellent news. It will take a ton of money for defeat Romney and Perry is the only one capable of it at this point. Hopefully these numbers will persuade the big bundlers to hold up on going to Romney and give Perry a chance to continue to make his case.

The establishment republicans on FR are out in full force to shove this guy down our throats. People reading these threads should realize we have other far more conservative choices. Choices that are not beholden to special interest groups like Perry and Romney are.

Well go cheer them on!

Whether anybody likes it or not Perry will be the nominee and beat Obama with Palin as energy secretary drilling in Pelosi’s back yard.Christie would have been a powerhouse to beat appealing to democrats and moderates.I heard on some show last night that Christie was told there is not enough time now that primaries have changed; even for him.I am not a huge Christie fan because I don’t know what he is all about (A lot here are always so jumpy with the everybody but Palin is a RINO) but Christie is pro life and has the gusto and wide appeal of Reagan; so I don’t dismiss him. but him not jumping in gets me nervous as Obama will have a challenger. The marxist left has taken the democratic party so the challenger will be a progressive like Hillary. But if they throw in a Bayh anyone but Christie will struggle. America woke up to the Clintoons and Hillary’s glass ceiling appeal won’t do it.She sold Az. out to the UN and her recent diss of Israel will make it impossible for her to play a moderate fake Bill Clinton Hail Mary pass.

Uh, you HAVE to have big donors. You can’t get by on hoping individuals send you $25 a pop. Big media buys are expensive and you don’t want to have to borrow cash to pay for them. And big money draws other big money.

How much has your candidate raised?

**People reading these threads should realize we have other far more conservative choices.**

I call anti-gay rights, anti-abortion, secure border, vetoing 300 million dollars in spending, creating 850,000 jobs when all of America was losing them, cutting taxes, death penalty for rape, anti-global warming, prayer in schools, Tea Party member, right to bears arms, dismantlement of Obamacare to be pretty darn conservative. All of which is Perry.

Isn’t it odd that someone with these conservative bonafides has been called no different than Dukakis, left-wing socialist, and the like on this very site.

Imagine going to a REAL liberal and saying “Hey, I’ll bet you like Rick Perry.” They would laugh in your face.

All I can say is that promises and fundraisers aren’t going buy my vote. The person who wins it is going to have to win it by proving to me that they are capable of putting America back on the right track, by upholding the Constitution and actually following it. Anything less is unacceptable to me.

You need to understand the SECOND most important factor in running for President is raising money...you can’t do that then go home and enjoy life.

Yep. Sarah Palin knows what it feels like to be the target of a full-onslaught attack every minute of every day by the mainstream media. Now, they are doing the same thing to Rick Perry - because they know that of all of the declared candidates - Perry has the best chance of beating Obama - IF - conservatives can coalesce behind the most conservative candidate that has the best chance (and money) to be the nominee.

It's coming down to Romney, Perry & Cain - and I do not believe that Cain is going to be able to raise the funds needed to carry him to the end.

No, not 4 months, they raised 17 million in less than 2 months.

That is exactly why the TRUE liberals are trying their very best to deceive TRUE conservatives into thinking that Perry is not a conservative. The liberals know the truth and it is scaring them to death.

Now to be fair, some GOP candidates also raised mammoth amounts of cash, and we need to ask them, too: What, if anything, do their donors expect in return for their “investments”? We need to know this because our country can’t afford more trillion-dollar “thank you” notes to campaign backers. It is an important question, and it cuts to the heart of our problem
