How long ago was it that he retired from the U.S. Senate?

Zell Miller retired in '05. That was my first thought, too. Apparently no one has told Mitt that Zell ain't there no more.

Romney can work with "good" Democrats?

There are other things much easier to do than work with Dems.

For all Romney's flaws, this is an unfair attack. Reagan managed to get some Democrats to support him on critical votes, which was essential to getting legislation through Congress.

There aren't a lot of those type of Democrats left, but you have a few Senators, like Ben Nelson, who are persuadable on at least some issues. You've got your Blue Dogs in the House. Now, most (not all)of those folks voted for ObamaCare, but the political winds have shifted since that time, and a bunch of Democrats have drifted right to save their skins.

I would hope that any Republican, no matter who it is, would at least pretend to be open to the idea of working with those Democrats who can be worked with. That might be especially important in the Senate when talking about hitting 60 votes for filibusters. And there's no telling what the House will look like in, say, 2014, so every vote there might be important as well.

That doesn't mean you compromise on principle. It just means that you work to get whatever support you can for important legislation.

Yeah, where have we seen this “reach across the aisle” crap before? McCain was all about reaching across, and he ended up drawing back a stump.

Romney was trying to tell us he’s already been anointed. He will be Everybody’s President. He’s already going for the Independents.

After Obama has gone 100 MPH to destroy America with no compromise on anything from Republicans how is Romney doing 30MPH going to compromise with democrats to fix all the damage?

Who said anything about compromising?

Two Senate Democrats voted against Obama's bill yesterday. How did the GOP "compromise" with them to get their support?

We're not going to agree with even conservative Democrats on every, or even most issues, else they'd be Republicans. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get their support on issues on which there is agreement.

Plus, any GOP candidate who publicly states that he won't even try to work with Democrats is going to lost 20% of the independent vote off the top.

As sad as it is, a fair number of members of Congress will cast votes based on personal pique, or personality, as much as policy. Call them on the phone, ask for their support personally, and you might get it just by asking nicely. One of the things that supposedly is hurting Obama is that he rarely picks up the phone to who individual members in his own party, apparantly thinking it is beneath him.

Spare us the Perry Fan Girl crap. Any differences between him and Romney are largely the result of their different styles and different constituencies. Romney would be a little quicker to sell us out to socialized medicine. Perry would be a little quicker to sell us out to open borders. It is not a Hobson's Choice we have to make.

Romney can work with a good Democrat

They are all statists and socialists or at least sympathizers. No one with integrity, and who loves freedom can work with someone like that.

That’s a hollow statement, coming from one like you who’s busting his ass to get Romney elected.
