House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan says he “loves” presidential candidate Herman Cain’s signature “9-9-9″ tax plan.
Ryan told The Daily Caller in an exclusive interview that Cain’s plan shows the GOP presidential campaign season has entered into a more advanced stage where ideas — not just personalities — have come to the forefront.
“We need more bold ideas like this because it is specific and credible,” Ryan said. “I’m more of a flat-tax kind of a guy.”
The budget chairman went on to say that ideas like Cain’s plan could help shape the debate over tax reform moving into 2013.
“It’s great to see such bold ideas,” Ryan told TheDC.
Commenting on the sniping among the candidates and their criticism directed at Cain’s plan, Ryan said the entire process would make the eventual GOP nominee stronger going into the general election. Contacted by TheDC on Thursday, Herman Cain’s campaign was appreciative for the unexpected endorsement.
“I consider Paul Ryan to be one of the brightest minds in Washington, D.C.,” said Mark Block, Cain’s chief of staff, “and for Congressman Ryan to embrace 9-9-9 shows that he also has the leadership to give the American public bold solutions for our current crisis. Mr. Cain looks forward to sitting down with Congressman Ryan.
“Dr. Art Laffer also wrote a piece praising 9-9-9, so you have two of the most respected people that are dealing with economics in America praising 9-9-9,” Block added. “That … speaks for itself.”

Does anyone really believe that “9-9-9-” won't become 50-50-50 during our children's lifetime? And if you do believe, please tell me why— because I desperately want to feel the joy too.
If you take time to read herman's home page, you will see that 9-9-9 is an interim step to a flat, fair tax.
When I was working, and paying hundreds of thousands in federal income taxes, I'd have killed to have a 9-9-9 tax.
Being retired, this plan is about neutral for me, and in the short term may cost me a few bucks more, but as a step for the FAIR tax, it is well worth it.
Perhaps the sales tax, but not the income (or fair tax), or the corporate taxes.

If you only knew what a hawk my wife is in spotting sales tax rates, you can stop worrying. She knows exactly what all nearby town’s sales tax rates. EVERY SALES RECEIPT shows it right there in print!
But try finding your federal income tax rate or social security rate or medicare rate on your paycheck.....IT IS INVISIBLE!
So apply some logic, and figure out yourself which tax rate will be easier to sneak through without voter rebellion.
A good example is also the Bank of America proposal to charge $5/month for debit cards use. That is a pittance compared to your federal income tax+State income tax+property tax+Excise tax on utilities etc etc. But what are people squawking loudly about? The $5 charge.
Recommendations for an enhanced 9-9-9
9% corporate tax should permit corporations to deduct wages as a legitimate expense of doing business, less bonuses, buyouts, etc.
9% income tax should be on only 50% (or X%) of income so middle/lower income families do not owe more than they did under the old income tax. If nothing else, it’s good election politics.
9% sales tax should not apply to staple food items (meat, grain, vegetable) or utilities for one home of residence (gas, electric, water)
Heard Hannity yesterday on the way home from work and he had the Great Dr. Thomas Sowell. I was waiting for Dr. Sowell to make a comment on 9-9-9. Did/does anyone know what he thinks of it?
Don't bet on it. My entire family is black, and they all vote liberal Democrat. Not a single one of them is going to vote for Cain because he looks like them. On the contrary, they're going to view him as a 'traitor' to his race - a 'sell-out' to the 'racist, bigoted Republicans'.
Sorry, but that is true level of their indoctrination, and it's as solid as a rock.

You are correct, the indoctrinated liberal blacks will not. But there are also a significant number of not so liberal blacks, and for them the stigma/shame/whatever will not be present if they want to pull the lever for Cain.
I never said it will be 50:50. But it could easily be 80:20 and that is a huge loss for democrats.
I believe that Dave Ramsey also likes it.
It’s not another tax. First of all the current tax system gets eliminated. But beyond that, what some of you here trying to diss Cain in order to make your candidate look better don’t take into consideration is that YOU pay all corporate taxes at this point. I’ve owned my own businesses all my life and I can assure you that ALL costs which include taxes are added to the price of goods and services. I as the business owner DID NOT pay those taxes. I simply took them from you and passed them on to the government.
The crony loopholes that prevent fair competition and force prices higher don't give them a monthly statement. The crushing payroll taxes are such a part of life that they can't visualize life without that burden.
All they envision is 9% added to their grocery bill.
I believe that is the case with your family and many others, but I have to say I’m seeing some real changes where I live (Atlanta area). I am beginning to think there was something to that one poll that showed 24% of blacks voting for Cain.
Yep, it’s shaping up to be a good day. This is essentially a de facto personal endorsement from Paul Ryan, one of my favorite Congresscritters. Gravitas, baby!
What’s really funny about it, too, is that the MSM and permanent political class think that, because they liken Paul Ryan to the boogey man, everyone agrees with them. I’m looking for a new television commercial showing Herman Cain helping Paul Ryan push grandma’s wheelchair off a cliff. They’ll think they’re making points with it, while we, the new Silent Majority, just quietly laugh at them.

Another way to look at it - is the plan removes one revenue stream - payroll tax - before adding another. So it really isn’t a new tax, it is a replacement tax.

I can agree with that. Many in the black middle class have seen their fortunes eroded along with everyone else in Obama's economy. They've also watched his stunning incompetence on display for nearly three years now, and are wondering just who the hell they put their trust in.
Herman will certainly cause some of those people to re-examine their knee-jerk loyalty to the Democrat party, and maybe - just maybe, they'll give this revolutionary outsider a chance. I certainly hope so.
It’s rather disheartening to watch people here on FR claim it would be ok to tax corporations at a higher level. Even now with the discussion on Cain’s 999 plan it’s obvious that many don’t realize that the consumer pays ALL taxes. They either pay directly or indirectly through prices on product.
