If Perry is smart he’ll get his wife away from the microphones. Unfortunately, he isn’t.

It's brilliant actually, it's trying to redirect the conversation away from Perry's debate performances and falling numbers and back on religion. The "you don't like Rick because he's religious" strategy is much better than "you don't like Rick because of all of these other things" strategy.

Did anybody expect her to go out there and say "Rick's numbers are falling because you don't like his debate performances, his record, groups that he's addressed, comments he's made, ties he's had with people doing business with the State of Texas, etc."???

So I guess you’re implying that Cain would be doing better if his wife complained that the Republicans not supporting him are only against him because of his race?
