Herman Cain: Electrify the Border Fence

Doug Powers

October 15, 2011

It’s now a “9999plan: 9 percent personal income tax, 9 percent national sales tax, 9 percent business tax, and a 9 amp jolt if you try to illegally cross into the US.

New York Times:

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally.

The remarks, which came at two campaign rallies in Tennessee as part of a barnstorming bus tour across the state, drew loud cheers from crowds of several hundred people at each rally. At the second stop, in Harriman, Tenn., Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops “with real guns and real bullets” on the border to stop illegal immigration.
[...]
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical. Mr. Cain often says he told the caller that he had recently returned from China, and if the Chinese could build the Great Wall then America could build a border fence.

Before we assume that Herman Cain’s suggestion will cause Democrats or even select Republicans to throw even more scorn in his direction, I’d suggest this: Cain could win over many of them simply by saying that in his border plan, the fence would be electrified with power provided by solar panels the government purchased from stimulus-backed green energy companies.

How can you say that Perry doesn’t want to go there?

Perry has spent tons of Texas money. He’s pleaded for a little help from Washington. Obama hates Perry and he hates Texas. He wouldn’t give us a dime for border control.

Perry has a plan. Unfortunately, it doesn’t involve an electrified fence that would kill people trying to cross.

It is a multi-faceted plan, involving some fencing, modern technology, drones and boots on the border.

Cain’s plans are so simple. 9-9-9 Zap the intruders.

Does he even have a clue?

It was a boneheaded thing to say if you want to appeal to a wide base of support, that’s for sure. He’s scheduled to be on Meet The Press tomorrow, he’s bound to be asked about it.

To be a devil’s advocate, can a kinder gentler Perry fence be everywhere and catch everybody, at least those who do not approach with sophisticated tools? Would Perry be comfortable with human-operated robo-guns?

No to, electrify, electrify, electrify.

Yes to more fences, more BP agents and more high tech hardware.

Electrifying it is only a temporary solutino. I'm more in favor of these.

I'm sure Perry has a plan, but I have seen him scoff at the idea of a wall on the border on more than one occasion. He seems to think that it cannot be done.

If Perry actually wants a combined approach: a wall and boots on the ground, then I will give him credit for that. But from what I have seen, he talks about boots on the ground a lot, and a wall very little.

Before the hubbub starts, I’d sure like to know what he originally said, and if that was his idea for the whole darn thing or just parts of it or just tossed out for consideration? We’ve been through this kind of brouhaha before.

“Omigosh. Cain proposes a fence that would kill people trying to cross over. I guess there are people around here who would be fine with that.”

I would be one of those people who are “fine with that”. All I have to do is consider what the Founding Fathers, signers of the Declaration Of Independence, and war veterans lost — up to an including their lives. The illegals crossing over have no regard or respect for this country.

It's not Drill Drill Drill for Perry, it's LIE LIE LIE

> Who did the GOP Establishment push into the race after it seem Tea Party heroine Bachmann was going to upset Romney’s ride to the nomination?

Who does the GOP Establishment see as their back up card if Romney fails?

Who has long standing intimate ties with the Liberal wing of the GOP Establishment?

The answer is Rick Perry.

Bill Kristol to a NY Time Reporter telling him how the GOP Establishment plans to deal with “the Tea party mutiny”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2792217/posts?page=3

Kristol told me just after Perry entered the race, a development that essentially ended [the more radical Michele] Bachmann’s brief ascent. Establishment Republicans may prefer Romney to Perry, but their assumption is that either man can be counted on to steer the party back toward the broad center next fall, effectively disarming the Tea Party mutiny.

Wonder who Perry will be VP with?

Odd how that question never gets asked of Perry.

Could it be because everyone knows Perry is the GOP Establishment mole in the race to split the Tea Party/Conservative vote and hand the nomination to Romney?

Could it be because they know the ticket the GOP Machine is setting up is “Romney/Perry 2012? Think about it. Romney has the money, Perry has the idolatrous worship from the social Conservatives.

Could that be why the Perry camp is knowingly lying about Cain’s solidly Conservative record on both social and fiscal issues? Because they know full well Perry’s record can not stand close scrutiny?

What does anyone really know about Perry other then the nice words and platitudes he puts in his speeches? Looks like Perry is just Bush 3.0 another tough talking social conservative who will go to DC and be yet another good little GOP crony capitalist water boy.

I am so for this drill, baby, drill thing.

Think of what it would do for us.

Create tons of jobs.

Free us from dependence on the middle east. I would love for those countries to have to peddle sand.

Lower energy costs.

There’s just no downside.

This creates a grand opening for Rand Paul

Rand Paul did not say that, Ron Paul did.

Also, given that Mexico isn’t a prison yard, getting resources to sabotage these fences would not be all that hard. Basically some kind of good ground and a cable.

Herman Cain has a empowerment (entitlement) zone written into his 999 plan? RINO all the way if you ask me! How is that conservative?

He scoffs because, well, he lives in Texas. He’s actually been to the border. He’s seen the border.

Has Cain seen it?

Has Romney seen it?

He dismisses the idea of saying, ‘build a fence,’ because it’s far more complicated than that.

That doesn’t mean he dismisses the idea of securing the border. That’s a big leap for you to make.

Of course, we could put out land mines.

Perry is the energy Presidential candidate and that is what we need! Cain is the 999 gimmicky tax Presidential candidate with empowerment (entitlement) zones! Not what we need right now!
