Cain closely tied to Koch brothers

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has cast himself as the outsider, the pizza magnate with real-world experience who will bring fresh ideas to the nation's capital. But Cain's economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity.

Cain's campaign manager and a number of aides have worked for AFP, the advocacy group founded with support from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation and spending. Cain credits a businessman who served on an AFP advisory board with helping devise his "9-9-9" plan to rewrite the nation's tax code. And his years of speaking at AFP events have given the businessman and radio host a network of grass-roots fans.

Thank you, I deliberately left off the sarcastic tag because now the Cain fanatics are going to have to recognize the fact if Cain is going to make a serious challenge to become the nominee, he is going to need money.

These same people have been calling Perry a crony capitalist because he took money but all candidates need money. So the least amount of money you have may make you sound more virtuous, but it is not going to win many elections.

Lighten up cupcake, if there’s one thing I’m fairly certain of it’s Cain’s honesty. I wouldn’t say he’s been “bought out”, I’d rather say the Koch brothers agree with his principles and goals enough to help fund his campaign. I see nothing wrong with that. Of course if hate the Koch brothers because you’re a left wing zealot then you might.

We’ve been told over and over that Perry is bad because he has money

Who told you this?

I've never seen this posted on FR.

Have you been trolling DU?

Are you loggeed in?

"I'm trying to make a point to those here on FR who have been ripping Perry because he had money and they are holding up Cain as a symbol of virtue because he has no money."

Some of us who support Cain never had a problem with Perry attracting a lot of money, nor saw it as a virtue that Cain had little money. Actually, attracting money could be seen as a sign of support for the candidate's agenda if it is not tied to political favors. What I do see as a virtue on Cain's part is how effective he has been given the scarcity of resources he has.

Yours is a very reasonable post but there have been those who have accused Perry that because he attracted so much money was corrupted and was called a crony capitalist.

You are absolutely correct, whomever gets the nomination, is going to need lots of money to first get the nomination and then to defeat Obama.

You have come to the wrong conclusion. Please do not misinterpret what I was trying to say. Time and again, Freepers have accused Perry of being dishonest and a crony capitalist because he has all this money and many of them were trying to show that Cain was more pure because he had no money.

Well, that may sound good but it isn't going to win many elections. Anyone who hopes to win an election needs money. I do not think Cain is corrupt nor do I think Perry is corrupt.

Far too many believe that if a candidate accepts money from someone or a group it acts like a bribe and that is not necessarily the case. In more cases individuals, or groups give to candidates who are like minded.

I am thrilled we have the Koch Bros. on our side.

I hope you are kidding. The Koch Brothers are about as far away from crony capitalists as you can get.

Do you know anything about AFP? Is stands for Americans for Prosperity and is dedicated to keeping socialists and crony capitalists from undermining the free enterprise system. Click on the link to go to their website and educate yourself. It is exactly the type of educational program we need in this country.

Notice the enemedia always calls them AFP because, in their demented minds, it somehow sounds more sinister.

Have you ever heard them refer to OSI ran by George Soros? If you do, they always make sure the reader knows it means Open Society Institute because, after all, who could possibly oppose an open society.

We’ve been told over and over that Perry is bad because he has money.

Over and over??

It should be easy for you to cite a few examples, with links, where people have told you that "Perry is bad because he has money."

I've never seen such sentiments anywhere, and would have to read any links you post to find out who would make such a stupid comment.

I don't have time to go back through the comments but it has been a huge topic. Because Perry has money it means he is a crony capitalist and is corrupted. It has been repeated time and again.

If you've been reading any of these threads you've had to have seen it.

The truth is candidates need funds to run a campaign and Cain had better hope he gets lots of it.

So you can't cite a single example of anybody saying "Perry is bad because he has money," despite your claim that you've seen it "over and over."

Crony capitalism is not "having money," so its not the same charge. Crony capitalism means that you take money from private interests to influence your decisions on public policy. People have charged Perry with that, based on some of some of his controversial decisions and the fact that those decisions benefitted people who had given him significant amounts of money.

It's not possible to charge Cain with this as he's not made public policy.

But nobody has said Perry is bad simply because he has money. That a nonsense charge that you simply made up.
