Hello Cheap Energy, Hello Brave New World
Forbes ^ | Oct 17 2011 | Mark Gibbs

Posted on 10/17/2011 8:31:03 PM PDT by Kevmo

Over on Network World where I’ve had a gig as a columnist for about 18 years, my Backspin column I wrote this week about a power generation system called E-Cat that is to be tested on October 28th .

If you’ve missed the recent brouhaha over the E-Cat (which stands for Energy Catalyzer), you’re missing out on a three ring circus over a technology that will either change everything or change nothing because what is promised is, in theory, power too cheap to be worth metering .

"P.S.: Potty Mouth is a poor sales technique if you want to be taken seriously."

Lady, I respectfully suggest you read back through the responses of the people who are being so labelled. Their sole intent is to disrupt and, if possible, drive people away from the CF threads. They've said as much.

Even "an ignorant grandma" should be able to identify who is the "aggressor" on these threads, and it ain't Kevmo.

"I come on these threads to prevent you from promoting fraud. I do get some entertainment out of it. It's the only way I can put up with your childish behavior."

So "you" make the decision as to what should or should not be allowed to be posted and discussed on FR?? And you get that authority from where??

As I've said before....the "Abuse" button is right there. If you disagree with the topic, the Admin. Moderators are "just a keystroke away". But you have chosen to take matters into your own hands and attempt to stifle the subject.

"Ignorant granny"......here's the written proof of "seagullhood", in his own words.

So you can’t even acknowledge some of the simplest facts on the ground. And supposedly, you’re the one who is fighting fraud.

Your own words damn you.

Poking fun at the FRingies is new to you? Aren't the pokers allowed to post too? I freely admit that I have no idea if this device really works or not, but I do have my opinion based on a variety of sources and my own sense, and here's my prediction:

This demonstration on the 28th will be just like the guy who says he has a bigfoot body that he's going to reveal to the world soon, or the guy claiming that the world ends on the 21st. And if the last guy is right, so much for the demonstration. :)

I guess we'll see who's right. A brave new world, or SSDD.

Without a direct answer to your question in post#56, this seems like a continuation of a decades-long delusion on the subject of cold fusion.

If you ever get an answer, please ping me.

Thanks.

Why don’t you address the fact that Rossi’s degree is from Kensington University?

Why don’t you address Rossi’s arrests?

"Poking fun at the FRingies is new to you?

Since I've been here ten years longer than you .....no.

"Aren't the pokers allowed to post too?"

I've got no problem with the occasional jibe, but that is NOT what is going on here. The purpose is specifically to disrupt CF threads. As is admitted by the folks doing it.

This is unauthorized censorship by spamming. Look at the number and "quality" of the posts from Moonman62. He is by no means the only one....just the most "prolific".

Differences of opinion, even though they are irritating and prolific, don't add up to spamming or censorship. This is just a message board for interested contributors, and this is how they work. It is not a research seminar being given by you, that people should respect, listen quietly, and behave mannerly.

Are you sure you've been here awhile? It would seem odd to me if it were otherwise.

Why don’t YOU acknowledge some of the simplest facts on the ground, as you say? Please explain to the class Rossi’s educational background and criminal record, and how they may relate to the validity of his current exceptional claims.

The problem with Rossi’s system is that it is too good to be true.

Like electric power was too good to be true? Like nuclear energy, television, radio, telephone, telegraph, the internal combustion engine, steam-engine driven looms, steam engines, water-wheel driven grist mills, water wheels, etc, etc, etc, back to the beginning of technology, were all too good to be true?

I have a question for you. A serious one so don't flame me. As I understand it electricity is applied to nickel and it changes to copper thereby creating large amount of heat. Is that the basic idea behind E-cat? That however is not the question. Where does the electricity that starts the catalyst come from and how much is needed? Will there be a need for a coal(or nuke)powered generator in order to keep this thing going or is the reaction self sustaining once it gets started? Sorry for all the basic question but I am not a physicist and I am a long time out of school.

yeah right.

You apparently havn’t been around long enough to know that efficiency claims of ESTABLISHED technology is greatly exaggerated, let alone technology no one knows anything about.

This is assuming it isn’t a complete hoax, which it could very well be. If it isn’t a hoax, we are most likely going to find out the output from it is so minimal it is worthless technology.

refrigerator my ass. You still have to boil water and that requires a boiler and then turn a turbine with the steam which will turn a generator. So now you are up to a garage sized powerplant for your house...if it even works at all.

Along the way, and throughout the development of all those things you listed, a much better understanding of how everything works, was gained. For that very reason, that is why I think the skeptics are carrying a much heavier hand than the "I Want To Believe" faction.

One doesn't have to do a lot of reading to know a lot of research has gone into cold fusion. It's been over twenty years ago, and I realize a lot of advances have been made. But, at that time, I read that a cold fusion chamber would have to be 25 miles long because the process was so difficult. While 25 miles is probably a stretch, the discussion was around the difficulty of producing cold fusion.

I watched a video demonstration Rossi's E-cat. The E-cat looked like a amateur high school project. Rossi's dialog was simplistic. The site included a photo of what looked like a miniature, '40's era refrigerator, about the size of a small ice chest. OK, this cute little thing is delivered to your house, does it come with a standard 110/220 cord? Or are you required to completely re adapt the delivery system in your house?

1. Why has Rossi abandoned the use of "cold fusion" for a description less specific? If his tests fail, has he left himself an out...."Well, it wasn't really cold fusion it was...whatever..."

2. Nickle can be turned into "copper", actually more like copper by-products than good quality copper... It's either for industrial use, or the result of processing nickle. It's not a one-step, two-step process. It does not require cold fusion to accomplish..."Cheap Energy."

You didn't create the E-cat. Your reputation is not on the line, and peoples comments are not meant to mock you.

The fun of Free Republic is putting an idea out there, and then taking the bitter with the sweet it the responses.

For sure, when October 26 arrives, all will become clear.

"Differences of opinion, even though they are irritating and prolific, don't add up to spamming or censorship."

Sorry, but at this level of abuse, I think it does.

"This is just a message board for interested contributors, and this is how they work. It is not a research seminar being given by you, that people should respect, listen quietly, and behave mannerly."

LOL, I think you need to read the forum rules again:

"Please enjoy our forum, but also please remember to use common courtesy when posting and refrain from posting personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, threats, racial or religious bigotry, or any other materials offensive or otherwise inappropriate for a conservative family audience. Free Republic is a non-commercial site. Please do not post advertising, solicitations, spam or any other commercial messages. Do not spam us with links to your own site. No one likes spam."

And the key word is "contributor". Real contributions from the "seagulls" are few and far between.

"Are you sure you've been here awhile? It would seem odd to me if it were otherwise."

Check my home page. Like the "Abuse" button, one click takes you there. AFAIK, there is no way to change the "signup date" listed there.

They don't. None of his supposed transgressions involve scientific fraud, and there is no evidence that they ever have.

The fact that Hedy Lamar was a Hollywood actress didn't keep her from inventing "spread-spectrum radio".

Hedy Lamarr didn’t falsely claim to have a university education. Rossi does, a fact which shows intent to deceive. For you to ignore this shows that you have suspended disbelief because you “want to believe,” as the X Files famously said.

So, the fact that Rossi ran the PetrolDragon scam means nothing to you, and you completely dismiss the possibility that this is another scam?
