Say, did you hear about the big election yesterday? Well, if you’re like the majority of the country, you probably weren’t even aware anyone was voting on Saturday. But for the politically addicted, you might have known that Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal was up for another term. So… how did that work out for him? Not too shabby.
Bobby Jindal, a Republican who championed stronger ethics laws in his first term as Louisiana governor, won re-election against nine other candidates in an open primary, according to the Associated Press.
Jindal earned 65.8 percent of the vote in yesterdays ballot, negating the need for a November general election, according to the AP, which declared him the winner. Tara Hollis, a Democrat and schoolteacher making her first bid for public office, came in second with 17.9 percent of the vote, with 100 percent of precincts reporting.
Jindal, 40, is the first Indian-American governor in the nation. He was elected on promises to change the states reputation as a nest for corruption. Within months of taking office, he won approval for laws prohibiting public officials from holding state contracts and requiring them to disclose information about their personal finances.
Owing to Louisiana’s somewhat unusual election laws, the primary election in this case automatically becomes the general election. Had some other candidate done better, leaving Jindal with only a plurality victory, they would have squared off again in November. As things stand, the race is over and Jindal secures four more years in office.
Not terribly surprising, since his latest poll numbers show him with a 63% approval rating. (A number which pretty much any elected official in the nation should envy.) His policies of reducing taxes and shifting government jobs to the private sector have brought Louisiana’s unemployment rate down to just over 7%, well below the national average. If we weren’t still locked out of a lot of energy jobs in the Gulf, he could conceivably gotten it down closer to five. (Thanks, EPA!)
This will once again fuel speculation of either a future presidential run for Jindal, (birther nonsense not withstanding) or even talk of a VP slot for him next year. But for now, it looks like Jindal is content doing the best job he can for Louisiana. And a fine job it’s been thus far by all appearances. Besides… the guy is only 40 years old. He’s got plenty of time to ponder his options.
Didn’t hear anything about it in the MSM.
The MSM wants to choose our news for us. They clearly didn’t think that this landslide election was newsworthy.
Not sure but didn’t Jindal Endorse ‘Mittens’ recently?
That would lower my expectations of him somewhat.
Jindal endorsed Perry early on.
I think the state run “media” ignored this election so as to not spoil the celebration of Barry’s big victory in Libya. Barry doesn’t get to spike the ball all that often.
As I said on another post, I didn’t even know LA was having an election. If I didn’t read FR, I wouldn’t have known anything about this.
Contribute to FR, everybody!
I heard the results on a cable news station. Don’t remember which one, but I didn’t even know about the election.
“Birther nonsense”?
Jindal is not eligible for POTUS or VPOTUS: though he was born in the U.S., his parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of his birth.
I congratulate him on his reelection.
Ineligible for VP or POTUS.

UH OH .. Even Worse!
But he is unlikely to do so. He would suffer a huge backlash in the press and he would likely loose a great number of Democrat voters. Then of course he would have a number of problems with Democrat backlash in the State Legislature.
Good for him. I admire Bobby Jindahl, he’s got good ideas, too....and a PhD in Healthcare policy. I’d have him as HHS Secretary in my dream Cabinet.
I don’t think he’s running for President, but he’s completely eligible. His parents’ status doesn’t matter: he’s a natural born citizen of the US, and no court would find otherwise.
The whole question with Obama is not that one of his parents was a foreigner and never even had plans to become a citizen, but that he was possibly born outside of the US. Everybody knows that his father was not a US citizen; the question is where he was born (personally, I think he was born in BC, but that’s a whole different topic).
Very true. I have also wondered if he was born maybe on the way to or from Kenya, in another country where nobody suspects, like maybe Egypt, or India or something depending on which was the airplane went. But, since he coughed up the long form, I am going to believe Hawaii until somebody proves it differently. Which would NOT surprise me one bit.
Newer court interpretations of natural born generally deem it sufficient to be physically born in the US or its possessions, but you gotta know those hypocrite Democrats would give a putative President Jindal a very hard time about it.
He “coughed up” a demonstrable phony. WND was on top of it from the word go. The most charitable interpretation would be that Hawaii just plain lost the original document, so had a Photoshop artist paste together a reasonable facsimile of what it would have looked like, then gave it to Obama and said voila, here you are. But there are much more pessimistic possibilities possible.
Uh, don't you know that Vattel disagrees? And don't you realize that an 18th century treatise (in French) by a Swiss intellectual will be taken by U. S. courts -- up to and including the SCOTUS -- as the controlling legal authority?
Hey, c'mon FRiend, get with the program!
The NBC program, that is.
wow.....
