Mandatory [NYC] Sex Ed Details May Be Too Racy for Parents [Caution: explicit content]

Details about the new sex education curriculum in New York City public schools are out -- and some are concerned the lessons are too racy.

The New York Post obtained workbooks that will be used for the new recommended curriculum, which begins in middle schools and high schools around the city next spring. Parents, they say, may be shocked by details of the work.

Middle school students will be assigned "risk cards" that rate the safety of different activities, the paper says, from French kissing to oral sex.

The workbooks for older students direct them to a website run by Columbia University, which explores topics such as sexual positions, porn stars, and bestiality. The lessons explain risky sexual behavior and suggest students go to stores to jot condom brands and prices.

The Department of Education says the curriculum "stresses that abstinence is the best way to avoid pregnancy and STD/HIV" and reminded the Post that parents have the option to exclude their kids from lessons on "methods of prevention."

When given details of the new programs, one Manhattan mom -- who has a child in middle-school -- was surprised.

"I didn't know how much detail they would get," she said.

In August, Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs commended the return of mandatory sex ed, saying the DOE wants to give students the correct information about sexual activity if they do choose to engage in it.

"We want to help kids to delay the onset of sexual activity, and if they choose to engage in sexual activity, to do it in a healthy way," she said.

The classes will be coeducational, and can be incorporated into existing health education courses.

Before the DOE is eliminated there should be a thorough background investigation of all its employees. Then they should all be fired. But some of them would probably go to jail.

Coming soon to a town near you.
If you call yourself a conservative you will not wait to remove your child from public school. However “inconvenient” you may choose to call it.

Well put, especially the ‘inconvenient’ part.

I think we can all give a huge round of applause for Pres. Clinton for bringing oral sex into the public domain. Sure, it existed prior to him - but it became ‘mainstream’ thanks to his escapades.

“No.” It’s past time to say, “No, and I mean it.” It’s time to take our families and churches and schools and country BACK. Even if if means that we live more modestly and do without things we desperately want, conservative Americans must say, “No, I will not a teach or allow my little boy or girl to be taught things that I know are filthy.” I don’t want to run afoul of the law, but it’s time to fight back.

Like I say on almost every moral absolutes and EOTWAWKI type thread, I am looking forward to certain aspects of the coming Great Chastisement. Much of this depravity will be extinquished.

“We want to help kids to delay the onset of sexual activity, and if they choose to engage in sexual activity, to do it in a healthy way,” she said.” WHAT A DISENGENUOUS STATEMENT!

I think the NRA should offer to hold middle school classes in “gun safety,” so that if kids decide to engage in “gun use,” they can do it in a safe, healthy, and responsible way!”

Although this actually would be a better use of tax dollars, can you imagine the heads that would explode if this was even mentioned???

Imagine what might happen if our public schools spent as much time, energy and money to develop competitive curricula for science, math, reading, critical thinking skills and history.

But then the union thugs who run them wouldn't have sufficient resources left with which to undermine American culture and society, and it is that political goal - as opposed to education - with which they are so clearly obsessed.

"If you call yourself a conservative you will not wait to remove your child from public school."

Glad to see a so-called "conservative" smearing others so freely because they make decisions that don't agree with yours.

Not all school districts, or schools for that matter, are created "equal".

Yeah, our kid goes to a public school. One filled with hundreds of military brats, children of engineers, technicians, etc. A first rate AFROTC program, consistently rated as one of the best schools in the state, teachers that listen to parents, school administrators that are focused on a quality education and not indoctrination. A very strong PTA, with plenty of parental engagement and involvement at all levels in the school district, etc.

But I'm not "conservative" enough.

GAAAAAAAH! Did anybody watch that episode of South Park with Mr. Garrison teaching sex ed to kindergartners? Can't help think of that episode. I don't think I can even give any of the specific details or youtube links, as it could/would get me banned.

“...it’s time to fight back”

It is long past time to fight back, and the only effective way to “fight back” is to take your children out of government schools, work to defeat school bond levies, and tell your legislators that government schools are unfit for funding and that you will work to defeat them if they support increased funding for the government education racket.

Unfortunately, we have far too many people who claim to be conservatives but love their single-payer education welfare program. If you are reading this - and you know who you are - your schools are not “different”. The date has expired on that excuse for avoiding responsibility and maintaining your levels of consumption.
