GOP asks Napolitano why she didn’t meet with Holder on Fast and Furious

Republicans on Wednesday peppered Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano with questions regarding her involvement in a botched federal gun tracking operation.

Napolitano, appearing before the House Judiciary Committee, said she has not met with Attorney General Eric Holder about the Fast and Furious operation, which oversaw the sale of thousands of firearms to known and suspected straw buyers for Mexican drug cartels.

Republicans were outraged that Napolitano had not talked to Holder about the operation, saying that she should have done so when she learned that two of the weapons sold under Fast and Furious were found at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry last year.

“For you to have two dead agents and to have never had a conversation with Eric Holder about Fast and Furious and about this is totally unacceptable,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah).

Napolitano fired back, saying that her immediate and longstanding concerns were to assist the FBI in its investigation and arrest of Terry’s killer. She said she has refrained from talking with Holder about the operation because it was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which is overseen by the Justice Department (DOJ), and because it is being investigated by the DOJ’s inspector general.

“I know Mr. Chaffetz has his opinion on this matter, as the tone of his question reveals, but I simply would suggest that no one takes the death of agents more seriously than I,” Napolitano said. “One of the reasons that we have not directly dealt with the attorney general on this is that he very quickly and appropriately put this matter in the hands of the inspector general.”

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) pressed Napolitano, the former governor and attorney general of Arizona, on whether she would have approved the “gun-walking” tactics employed under Fast and Furious.

The process of gun-walking occurs when firearms are allowed to get into the hands of known or suspected criminals and agents do not immediately move to intercept them.

Napolitano did not specifically say whether she would have allowed gun-walking to take place, but said she was never presented with that situation and that it is bad any time firearms end up in the hands of criminals.

“Every prosecutor makes different decisions, and I don’t believe I was ever presented with that decision,” said Napolitano.

“Obviously, I don’t want to let guns with the kind of firepower that we now know we’re involved [with] get out of your control.

“From a law enforcement perspective, yes, Fast and Furious is very troublesome,” she said.

Sen. Cornyn presses for Fast and Furious probe in Texas

I haven't read it yet, but I read a similar story about Senator Cornyn asking Issa's committee to expand their gun walking investigation to Texas in the Washington Times.

Easy. You can maintain “plausible deniability” if the conspiritors haven’t officially spoken about the subject. They should be tried, convicted, and executed for their roles in this.

Yes, he did, you FOOLISH, IRRESPONSIBLE, FAT DYKE.

The IG is is PERSONAL BUDDY, his former employee for YEARS --they co-authored quite a number of claims together. Why, you stupid sow, do you THINK he threw it at her, like a hot potato...?! Cuz he KNEW his buddy was the person who would do NOTHING --that's why he nominated her.

You would have found this if you had even LIFTED A FINGER, but you did not. You did not because you did not wish to, and you did not wish to because YOU KNEW.

THIS is the woman who is going to do the really heavy lifting of keeping terrorists out? She should have been fired YEARS AGO.

UNQUALIFIED. A berry-picker could do a better job than her at this.

Immediately...?! Ah..! Yes, of course...so...that means that they did move to intercept the guns AT SOME POINT? You're saying THAT? They did?

Ridiculous --they NEVER did.

Didn't even budget for it --zilch, zip, nada. In fact the one, poor, street-level ATF flunky dumb and honest enough to BELIEVE in this evil, completely ***SUCCESSFUL*** plan was so distraught that he went off script, into a freaking RADIO SHACK and bought a ghetto GPS thingy and stuck that sucker into a gun.

And even in that ONE unscripted case the unit went dark that SAME NIGHT.

Lies, then huge distortions, then when those don't work we get re-shading of the truth...At each and every juncture they're trying to get away with AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

You said it exactly right!! It's all BS. Beyond BS even. It's BS in epic proportions!

Actually, they did plan to intercept the guns eventually. They were planning to wait until they showed up at the crime scenes!

The only good Congressional hearing on Fast and Furious is one where Incompetano leaves the building in tears with her pants around her ankles, followed by a few Federal agents with weapons drawn.

Kind of makes one want to waterboard her.... even though we have all of her crappy answers already. The truth is she is the domestic enemy that many have taken an oath to oppose.
