Civil Disobedience in Greece Grows Over Government's Austerity Measures
AP/Fox News ^ | 10/28/11

Greeks have launched a wave of civil disobedience against the embattled government's austerity measures designed to appease international creditors, which provided rescue loans to the country.

The latest example of rebellion is the Athens municipality of Nea Ionia, where authorities are urging people not to pay a much reviled new property tax being charged through electricity bills.

"Our constituents can't pay, they don't have the ability to," Nea Ionia mayor Iraklis Gotsis said. "We consider the new tax to be illegal. But in essence, the truth is our people just can't pay."

This is the result of people getting used to a situation for 50 years. Little by little. The way they live is normal from their point of view.

They were simply never told, for the whole 50 years, that the nation was not really supporting itself. It was a scheme that was destined to fail in the long run, but very few understood that or were even aware of it.

Government borrowing made it possible. The “enabler”, therefore, was the buyers of Greek sovereign debt.

Italy is on the same path; as are most of the other European nations and the USA.

When the Greek situation pops into my mind, I immediately forget about it and instead look at the United States that I live in and how it is slowly heading into exactly the same situation.

Greece has a mote in it’s eye and America has a beam in it’s eye.

We need to put the crackpipe of U.S. Treasury debt securities down. Pay off the debt and then swear off borrowing for good, i.e., Constitutionally.

It’s going to take quite a President, bunch of Congressmen and State Legislatures to get that done.

IMHO...

only 15% of the residents of Ohio are on the Gov’t payroll.

Give it time. The US is catching up fast. Only a matter of time before our professional leeches start rioting because the "rich" have been fully tapped out.

The debt OBLIGATION (not just what the current debt is)

is 20 times the total available money supply.

Sleep well!

The leader in Greece is a hard-line socialist. In some ways communist.

I expect he will foment these unrests to his dying breath to maintain power.

This is how the barbarians beat rome.

Better the barbarian you don’t know than the tax collector you do know.

There is no ecconomy in Athens.

Crony capitalism has KILLED the greek ship yards. The ship owners do not flag their ships in Greece. they do not service their ships in greece.

the ONLY way to save the Greek ecconomy and the euro is to unlease the power of free enterprise.

You can’t even have a private university in Greece.

Don’t forget this ecconomy is tiny compared to any state of the USA. (it is probably smaller than RI)

20% is on the government payroll.

Cramer was on CNBC praising the deal so you know it was going to fail.

After the first round of austerity 30% of athens businesses on a main street shut down.

You can’t tax into prosperity.

You have to unlease free enterprise.

Someone at the IMF should be told about October 28th.

It is a national holiday. The Greeks were sent a message from the axis powers to surrender immediatly as they were outgunned and out numbered. General Venizelos sent a one word reply. “no.”

Shortly after the out gunned and outnumbered Greeks beat back the itallian army of il duche and forced the german army to divert to back up the itallians. The German pilots called the greeks those crazy bastards who would stand their ground and shoot back at german dive bombers with rifles and pistols.

So happy “oxi day” (for those in rio linda oxi means no in Greek)

This was to be expected and will spread. Note in the article the officials are telling the people not to pay. What is the EU going to do? send in the blue helmets?

It is time to dump euros.

I suspect that is what happened on wednesday with the all is well announcement. This was to give the big boys time to bail on the euro and screw the smaller fish.

increasing taxes and increasing regulations to oppressive levels has never saved a single government.

China is pumping money into the EU to keep a counter to the dollar.

is there such a thing as a Tax Slave?

it seems the EU is pushing slavery via taxation.

The income of a working in Greece is 450-500 euros A MONTH.

imagine if that was dollars and monthly wages.

The reforms that are needed, capitalism, are an anathama to the Germans control and the french ego of unified europe. At some point a no confidence vote will happen in parliament and that, absent vote fraud, will lead to unilateral action. They may not default but the payments will be haircut and reduced.
