Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain's inconsistent statements in the wake of revelations that he was accused of sexual misconduct in the 1990s are complicating his efforts to move on from the incendiary story - and may prompt voters who would otherwise have discounted the allegations to reconsider.
During his initial media interviews on Monday, Cain said that he was unaware if the National Restaurant Association, which he headed during the 1990s, had paid a financial settlement to a female employee or employees who had accused him of sexual misconduct. Politico reported Sunday that at least two women complained about Cain's behavior and ultimately left the group. The woman reportedly received financial payouts and agreed not to discuss the reason they left.
Cain is driving the MSM clowns crazy...he knows what how to do that!
Politico is still after him. Too bad they didn’t chase Clinton’s tail like this. They might not have had blue dress all over the faces if they had.
I think the MSM told us then it wasn’t any of our business what Clinton did in his ‘private life’ even though it was under the desk in the OVAL OFFICE!

The National Restaurant Association considered endorsing Herman Cain’s presidential campaign just weeks before POLITICO reported that two association employees accused him of sexual harassment when he served as the group’s CEO in the late 1990s.
But now, as the association deals with the fallout from the allegations against him, it’s trying to tamp down on discussion of Cain and his tenure.

Yeah, it’s the old “coverup worse than the crime” thing. Which makes sense when you lie about something, like, say, Holder did. Less so in Cain’s case, which doesn’t appear like lying to me, and hardly even as “inconsistency.” But dang near anything can be made to look like a coveruo, and it’s hard to tell how Cain could have avoided the charge, as the only real alternative would be to admit to a maximum of wrongdoing.

Be careful what you construe as obfuscation. I wouldn’t want in future for not telling us absolutely everything, right away, but also somehow after exhaustive research, with perfect forensic certitude to be considered lying. Especially as this standard will not apply to Democrats, and apply less strenuously to establishment Republicans.

If Herman Cain is to be President, nothing will stand in the way of his nomination. That’s just how it is.

Oh, I should also say, it’s all well and good to say he should get his ducks in a row, and certainly there are better politicians than Cain, and better politicians would have done better in response. But I’m sick of getting mired down in discussions of what’s good politics. Dick Nixon, per your example, was also a master of side-stepping scandal. Cf. the Checkers speech. So what kind of standard is that to judge by?
Next time we look around and wonder why we’re stuck with a bunch of Romneys and McCains, we should remember this. Because judging candidates by how they respond to bait is sure to butress establishment types. There’s no way Romney is less gaffe-prone, or Obama baggage laden, than Cain. But we perceive them differently, because they’re slicker. I can go overboard reacting against it, because at bottom that’s politicians’ job: people pleasing. And we can’t change that without abandoning representative democracy.
Only I warn that by testing candidates according to how well they finesse potential scandals and when and how often they put their feet in their mouths, we’re bound to end up with at best Bill Clinton. Ewww.

The people marking YES may be those who think the impact WON’T be negative but still have an impact. Look at his donations yesterday. For the first time I can remember, the right is galvanizing around a candidate.

The MSM is going nuts over this unsubstantiated BS, but they ignore the allegations of sexual misconduct and possible rape of a 14 year old in the occupy camps. I’ve been rolling my eyes at the MSM for years, but this has me steamed.
This kind of crap will only make conservatives stronger. They can swipe at our candidates all they want. But they can’t hold us back from taking back the White House in 2012. Make bank on that kids.

Since the lawyer for one of the women said today Cain may have violated the confidentiality agreement, I don't see how it's "put to rest." Since there's more than one woman, I don't see how it's "put to rest." Since Cain "can't recall," I don't see how it's "put to rest." Since his HR director denies Cain's account, I don't see how it's "put to rest."
There are essentially no facts. It's not clear if Cain can offer facts or whether he's even a party to the confidentiality agreement. Just saying there's such a agreement may itself have violated the agreement.
I don't think it's too serious because the reported size of the settlements is quite small.
However, this is definitely not going away.

I hope that continues. The more he appears on shows, the more the media guys dissect and critique his answers for indiscrepancies. Did you see him on Bret Baier Special Report earlier? It happened to be his turn as candidate in the “center seat” per their schedule, but they grilled him. I also noticed there was no special online show where people could ask him questions via internet (they had an online after show for Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman). Maybe Herman was on a tight schedule, since he was on BOR tonight as well.
But guys like Krauthammer and Hume have been on giving their opinions and criticisms. I hate to see that, and hope and pray Herman’s strength will extend to independents and the large groups we’ll need for him to win, and to beat BHO.
I was up late and caught part of Rusty Humphries program last night.
What he said really makes me think it is not hard to figure out who dug this mess up from the grave!
