Hill GOP Gives Herman Cain Warm Reception
Roll Call ^ | 3 Nov 2011 | David M. Drucker

Posted on 11/03/2011 11:39:13 AM PDT by mandaladon

Outsider Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is spending a tumultuous week in Washington courting the GOP establishment. And, at least for now, it seems that the establishment likes him — despite allegations of sexual harassment that continue to surface.

Following a series of private meetings with the Georgia businessman early in the week, Republican Members pronounced themselves impressed with Cain and unconcerned about the sexual harassment claims that have dogged the White House hopeful since Politico reported them Sunday. Cain spoke today with Members in several private settings as he sought to boost support for his campaign, sell his controversial 9-9-9 tax overhaul and simply introduce himself to an audience of strangers.

However, a media horde trailed Cain at every stop and sought to get him to comment on sexual harassment allegations and a sealed settlement that occurred while Cain was head of the National Restaurant Association during the 1990s. While Cain was making the rounds on Capitol Hill, the Associated Press broke news that a third woman now claims Cain acted inappropriately toward her when she worked at the association, and a GOP pollster who supports Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s presidential campaign told an Oklahoma radio station that he personally witnessed Cain sexually harassing a female employee of the restaurant group in the late 1990s.

But Sen. Richard Burr (N.C.), who was among 10 Republican Senators to attend a private Tuesday evening dinner with Cain, said the presidential candidate is positioned to be a major factor in the primary if his campaign is not derailed by the harassment charges and his poor handling of the flap.

“I think he’s a very impressive candidate,” Burr said. “He’s got an impressive business record, and I think we will all wait to see how he weathers the current onslaught of these accusations.

$1 million in new donations and +1 in the polls both since Sunday doesn’t seem like something is dogging him.

Note the SECOND LAST and the LAST sentence:

Thank God that President Obama appointed Leon Panetta to blow up the al-Qaeda and Taliban thugs. As CIA chief, Panetta has served the president extremely well and largely taken foreign policy criticism off the election table. Mr. Obama got lucky with Mr. Panetta. The president has been unlucky in other advisory areas.

So, experience does matter. Voting for any political candidate is a gamble. But supporting one who is light on policy achievement is a long-shot play.

President Herman Cain will do well to appoint Duncan Hunter to a job like National Security etc...

Ben, and all, (you may know this I am sure), Capitol Hill runs this way: Most congressmen/women have an internal pollster, somebody who runs the numbers on various issues, trends, the so-called "internals". They look at these constantly like a weathervane. It is the key to their political survival, which for most of them--I don't care from which party, is "Job #1". What it is now telling them is this contrived Herman Cain character assassination-attempt cum "scandal" has been exposed as nothing more than a cheap smear by lib Dems, and that it has run its course. Sooooo, they do not want to be left out in the wind by giving a cold shoulder on Capitol Hill to the potential nominee to the Party who has been unjustly wronged. They are laying out their chits in advance. Tell ya what. If Herman seizes the nomination, LOTTTTTS of people who have detracted are going to "git religion" real quick, many of them here right on FR. You are starting to see the beginnings of this, they are accepting the inevitability that these liberal (and under the surface now doubt RINO/COP Establishment) arrows are bouncing off of hardened steel and are not penetrating the target for which they were intended.

PS Who is the puerile j*ckass who keeps tagging Cain stories with "Herb (sic) Cain". Is this supposed to be some kind of joke? I guess some Freeper's 12 year old kid somehow got the keys to the computer. Pathetic. Oh well, I guess it is the stress of falling hopelessly behind in the polls, gotta have an outlet somehow.
