State forest ranger shot himself in the leg during training at a firing range

The state forest ranger who shot himself in the leg during training at a firing range in Lake George last week is out of the hospital, officials said.

Ranger Jim Giglinto was at the state Department of Environmental Conservation's regional headquarters in Ray Brook earlier this week, officials said.

DEC spokesman Michael Bopp said it was unclear when Giglinto would return to work, and a DEC investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Giglinto suffered a wound to a leg when a bullet grazed him late Friday afternoon.

The gun was triggered by a cord that was on a windbreaker jacket he was wearing that apparently dropped into his holster before he put the weapon in it, authorities said.

As he slid the gun into the holster, the cord or a plastic piece on it caught the trigger, officials said.

"This was winter gear training, and he was wearing a coat that was not his normal gear. And it was a cord on that jacked that got in the way," Bopp said.

So why will nothing happen to him for this incident, while Plaxico Burress spent over a year in prison? Because New York City laws violated Burress’ 2nd Amendment rights - with impunity. Why didn’t the NRA offer to pay for his defense and attempt to overturn the Sullivan Laws?

Hopefully this ranger will encounter in his career nothing more dangerous then an angry raccoon. Self defense does not seem to be his strong point.

Well that’s probably a 6 figure worker’s comp settlement and a lifetime of disability pension payments for this government union “worker”.

I call “horsepuckey” on the possum-sheriff’s explanation of the incident.

Ranger Barney had his finger inside the trigger guard while reholstering the weapon!

Of course if the “idjits” in charge would let them use 1911 style pistols and Barney thought to re-engage the thumb safety, Barney would still have his jump shot! But as it stands, they just made more Glock-a-molie!

I hate all that friggin’ striker-fired trash!

Self defense does not seem to be his strong point.

Take away his gun and give him pepper spray and bells.
