The Republican race has officially been hijacked by the Herman Cain sexual harassment controversy, and the furor shows no signs of dying down. Everyone in Washington is now trying to decide whether Cain is more like Clarence Thomas or Bill Clinton. Or maybe even Anthony Weiner.
But the media firestorm has overlooked one key fact: We still don't know what Cain actually did.
New details emerged Thursday night about the two unnamed women who Politico originally reported had accused Cain of making "sexually suggestive" remarks and "improper" gestures toward them while they were employees at the National Restaurant Association sometime in the 1990s. The new reports provide some clarity to the scandal, mostly by providing information that differentiates the two original accusers:
According to both stories, one of the women was paid a $35,000 termination settlement after Cain made "unwanted sexual advances" at an NRA event in a hotel, apparently after a night of heavy drinking. The NYT reports that Cain asked the woman to come up to his hotel room, and made repeated advances even after she declined.
Politico reports that the second woman reached a $45,000 termination agreement with the NRA to settle harassment claims against Cain. She is the same woman Cain was referring to when he recalled that employee had "falsely" accused him of sexual harassment after he "made a gesture saying" she was the same height as his wife. She is also the same woman who has requested to release an anonymous statement through the NRA that would "counter" Cain's statements, while leaving out the details of the incident.
But in the end, the new revelations raise more questions than they answer. In fact, the Cain harassment story has actually gotten more vague and confusing as new details and allegations emerge.

Cain can’t provide any more evidence until the Nat’l Restaurant Association allows it, if ever.
MNJohnnie, I believe you are basically a good guy. But you are stepping over the line, as detailed by LibLieSlayer. You really are.
I believe (just my opinion) that you should step back for a moment and consider that many of the people here that you have chosen to express very extreme opinions about aren’t as bad as you think they (we) are.
I personally am on your side, believe it or not. I disagree with tactics, that’s all.
I think you should seriously consider not attacking fellow FReepers so vehemently unless they openly advocate liberal positions and candidates (like Romney) which I do not, and LibLieSlayer does not.
And there are others. Not just us two.
Have you stopped beating your wife yet? Prove it.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Alcohol makes you do dumb stuff. I should know.
Even if someting did happen, there was no deposition. So even if the NRA pulls the gag order it’s still just “he said she said” so nothing new can ever be learned.
So it’s time to move on. Nice try Libs.
One more time:
I agree with your post #79. I agree with it 100%.
Fair enough but I get the feeling if Cain handled this like an expert, some posters would be here wondering how he got such expertise.
It just seems to be getting that bad around here.
Anyway, I hope this all shakes out to be nothing but it is hard to argue that the way he is handling this is not paying off....for now at least.
“The guy looks like toast right now. Serious charges and it appears wide spread. Lets move on to serious people who can win the office. This is a major distraction and it is time to move on.”
Is that you, Rove?
Actually, I've been suffering from a really bad cold that the grandkids were kind enough to pass along to me. :(
The press has been in a frenzy all over this.
Oh, I'm aware about the swarm of stories, but I've only cared enough about it to read just a few. At this point, I only see rumor. If anything solid ever comes of it, then I'll see how much I care.
Guilty before proven innocent.
Yeah, that’s the American way! /s
LLS
I hope this all shakes out to be nothingMe, too.
And the fundraising and polling success is a good sign. I'm happy about both of those things.
Well I made it to post 126...(my rant not directed @ you DMDW2SS)...and my blood is boiling.
Robert got ‘Borked;’ Clarence received the’Thomas Treatment;’Sarah, her husband, parents, and children, got KPalinized;’ and now...WE ARE ALLOWIN Herman to get ‘the Cain.’ The drivebys, the RACIST guilty white libs; RomneyBots, Rovians reporting back to their Master, have ALL descended upon one nice man whose only fault I see is WANTIN TO SAVE HIS DAMN COUNTRY!!! And some “Conservatives” are piling on for good measure either intentionally or by deep naval gazing ponderment of the ‘situation’ thereby ALLOWING another conservative’s surname to be added to the lexicon of those taken down based upon their STEADFAST political conservatism.
IF Herman Cain was running as a Democrat, we would KNOW the names addresses (and height!) of each ‘accuser.’. The onlyunknown would be which one was being addressed as the nut and which as the slut...
Carrying on with the ‘Caining’ concern troll FReepers...
This is the fist sexual harrassment controversy I can recall in which there is no crime and no victim.
As far as I can tell, none of the women he is alleged to have harrassed have had their lives damaged in any way since they left his employment.
We haven’t heard any claims he propositioned or slept with them. As far sexual harrassment goes, complaints from three women in 20 years amounts to nothing.
But this story does tell us a lot more about the state-controlled media than it does about Herman Cain.
The guy at the radio station a staunch conservative said he acted wrong with the women there.
You’re a little behind the news cycle. Iowa radio host Steve Deace has now revealed the awkward comment that Herman Cain made while at his radio station. Cain made a comment to a woman who was there to report on the radio interview for another news agency.
Cain said, Darling, do you mind doctoring my tea for me?

Oh, the horror. The horror.
The UK and now TX have the right idea: If you fight the plaintiff and win, the other side has to pay your legal fees. If this were adopted across the US, we’d see a lot of crap cases go away.
Damn, I don’t know how many times a man has said something like that to me.
I have even heard “hey honey, could ya grab me a beer”
You mean I could get a big settlement for that?
