Rep. Jim Moran (D-Virginia) Bill to Outlaw Transportation of animals
Feld Entertainment ^ | Nov. 2, 2011

Posted on 11/06/2011 3:10:21 PM PST by railroader

November 2, 2011 - - The baseless legislation introduced today by Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) discriminatorily targets traveling circuses, including Representative Moran’s own constituent Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, the largest traveling circus in the United States. The bill is designed to censor entertainment and remove the right to let the American public choose for itself whether Ringling Bros. Circus, a 141-year old American institution, can continue to operate. In this day and age, when businesses are failing, the economy is struggling and families are worried, Congressman Moran is busying himself with legislation that immediately threatens to end the livelihood of more than 250 families working right here in his own Congressional District for a family-owned business in order to pander instead to animal rights activists. Nationwide, the bill would destroy the jobs of more than 750 full-time employees working for the circus, that include Teamsters and the American Federation of Musicians, and thousands of additional local jobs that result in every city that the circus plays across the country.

Rep. Moran must be dropping his pants and bending down for the animal rights lobby :)

You spelled “moron” wrong. (It’s an old joke, but I like it)

Either that, or Ringling Bros failed to grease Moran’s palm on command.

My guess is that Ringling Brothers hasn’t ever been to West Virginia...and Jim would like to entice them to visit once in a while.

It is a curious bill...it’d put circus folks out of a job. So where would circus folks work then? We’d need another bill of some stupid type....guaranteeing a government job to all circus folks out of job.

I think we need a dozen West Virginia college students to start up a state circus political party, and officially turn state politics more into a circus, than politics.

Gonna have to keep close eye on how this bill is written. So many conflicts are possible. Will it affect the transportation of cattle for market ? How can they specifically target Circuses ?

I suspect the bill concerns common-carrier transportation, but you make a good point. Then again, maybe requiring pets to drive themselves to the vet is some backdoor attempt to increase auto sales for Government, er, General Motors. :)

First Circus Animals ... next farm animals ... then pets.

As it is, so many States have demanded that pets in their State be spayed or neutered that dogs and cats have to be transported from States without mandatory spay/neuter laws into those States.

I know here in Lower Alabama we’re consistently transporting animals ‘up North’ ... not that I’m advocating that animals be allowed to run loose to procreate at will, just that these ‘laws’ end up doing an awful lot of harm in the long run because Legislators don’t think through the consequences.

Just because something looks good on paper doesn’t mean it should become a Law.

It’s a joke. Jim Moran (Jim Moron), or Jim Moron (Jim Moran). Still funny.

I would guess it's another fire bomb thrown at the GOP, with no hope of passage. Of course, it will be the evil Republicans that want to keep PETA's furry friends in forced slavery...

If it does pass, whattya bet Ringling gets a waiver of some sort (and Moran's campaign gets a check with lots of zeroes). Ringling's competition gets the shaft, of course, along with circus patrons who pay more for tickets.
