Under orders to cut the Pentagon budget by more than $450 billion over the next decade, Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta is considering reductions in spending categories once thought sacrosanct, especially in medical and retirement benefits, as well as further shrinking the number of troops and reducing new weapons purchases.

He’s a Clintonista. He has talked as if he supports Defense, but I believe he wants nothing more than to eviscerate the place. It’s people that count, and he’s suggesting cuts that will make quality people stay away.

That’s what happens when you put a Communist crook in charge of the Defense Department. At least clinton had the good sense not to stick his pet thug in there.

Does Obama have any qualified people AT ALL in the top positions of his government? Nobody comes to mind.

So are we to go back to more in the military on food stamps while we “give” illegal aliens more than we give the defenders of our nation? Are we talking about members in the military paying for their own medical insurance as NObama once let slip? If that is what we are looking at than say good-bye to an effective military. Say hello to one giant welfare program with San Francisco style bath house mentality.

CLOSE ALL BASES IN JAPAN,SOUTH KOREA, GERMANY, ENGLAND, ETC.

.........GROUND AIR FORCE ONE. REPLACE IT WITH A C-147

Just a start.

The war with Iran will more than take care of this. It’ll also take care of the so-called Supercommittee. Thanks RummyChick.

There are more state public sector employees in New Jersey alone then there are active duty Marines in the entire USMC.

He could eliminate stupid paperwork for MIL-Spec manufacturing and have more to spend despite the cuts.

where do our candidates stand on this? looks like the Tea Party doesnt think the cuts are deep enough? Apart from the prospect of the automatic cuts, some Republicans have already criticized the administration’s planned reductions as dangerously severe. Some Tea Party members and liberals, by contrast, have argued that the administration’s reductions are too modest

I want the names of the Tea Party Members that endosre the cuts and more info!

Do you know which elected members of the Tea Party believe the cuts do not go deep enough? “Apart from the prospect of the automatic cuts, some Republicans have already criticized the administration’s planned reductions as dangerously severe. No matter what I think of Panetta, I believe the military has a ton of waste. Some suggestions:

Trim Flag / General Officer perks (e.g. private plane usage)
Cut Flag and General Officers. I read a military white paper once on how we have multiples of the number of generals and admirals than is really necessary for the size of our armed forces.
Cut the officer corp in general. Allow mid-grade officers to retire early with partial pensions and benefits.
Cut pensions and retirement benefits for non-combat vets. IMO, doing powerpoint presentations CONUS for 20 years shouldn’t guarantee the same benefits as some grunt who took rounds and will have a hard time transitioning to a civilian job.

One of my beefs is that REMFs seem to have absorbed the same Culture of Sloth that infects civilian gov’t employees. This needs to change too.

There are so many other things that should be cut; this is a clear effort to weaken our military.

That said, we do not need military bases in every other country. How bout they close some of those?

Cutting benefits to veterans, those who are currently serving with the expectations of benefits promised when they went in, and those who will be less likely to sign up in the future is just wrong for our military and the country.

This is EXACTLY where Zero wants the USA - it is our turn to be trashed. /sarc

It really is the end of America that I grew up in and there is no stopping this a$$hat - he will be reelected because there is a culture ROT that has swept through this country since the 1960s. We are not reaping the "rewards" of turning our education system over to the commies, and allowing the 4th estate to be run as a propaganda arm of the RAT party - add to that the hijacking of the RAT party by the commies.
