Four out of ten Republicans believe Mitt Romney would be the most likely candidate to beat President Obama in the general election, according to a new CBS News poll.
Cain trailed in the category with just 20 percent...
Electability, however, was not most Republicans' top priority when selecting a candidate: 58 percent said they believe it's more important to have a nominee who agrees with them on the issues than one who can beat Mr. Obama next year. Thirty-nine percent said the opposite.
But the race could still change; seven in 10 Republican primary voters say it is still too early to say for sure which candidate they will support.

Huntsman would destroy himself. He reminds me of Michael Dukakis too much I can’t stand him at all!
“Romney leads Cain 2-to-1 in electability, says CBS News poll”
...that’s until Romney’s past gets drudged up.
With Romney, Obamacare becomes a non-issue.
Bears repeating.
I am voting for Paul in the primary and ABO in the general.
The liberal MSM is well aware that ZERO is vulnerable on Obamacare. Romney is the biological father of Obamacare. Romney is the only republican who can not attack Obamacare with a straight face.

This view appears to have helped Cain, who continues to lead Romney and Newt Gingrich overall -- though his numbers have slipped since sexual misconduct allegations against him surfaced in late October and November. Eighteen percent of respondents said they would support Cain for the GOP presidential nomination, while 15 percent said the same of each Romney and Gingrich
The liberal media is pushing Romney because win or lose, the marxist agenda advances.
Agreed. Romney has no chance of taking the South or taking any of the Black vote away from Obama. Romney is destined to lose if he gets the nomination.
Cain is the only one with a chance of beating Romney here in Michigan and he appears to be smart enough to capitalize on it.
Fair enough. If you can’t stand him, you can’t stand him. His record is NOTHING like Mike Dukakis’s though.
Romney is the one with a streak of Dukakis running through him. Or is he? Who knows with Mitt? We know he has a fondness for liberals of Greek descent, however, since he supported Paul Tsongas’s presidential campaign.
Huntsman is no Dukakis. He is no Romney either.
RUNNING (think I need a nap)
The only hitch with Huntsman is that he needs to not play so nice and throw some sand around the debate sandbox. He is still head and shoulders above the others with a proven record of implementing highly successful conservative initiatives and a practitioner of foreign policy realism based on seasoned experience, not theories or a briefing book.
But since a moderate attitude doesn’t even relate to electability (a lot of Independents/Dems like it) and the issues of the other candidates are flat out disqualifying I’ll take this one in a heartbeat.
She isn’t going to run. She has about as much chance as Santorum.
Face it, Mitt is going to be the guy and you can hold your nose or stay home. Why, they said so. Game over.
I may just stay home. I am sick of it.
Very good point. Huntsman needs to prove he can throw an elbow when needed. Agree with you 100% on your other points. His record speaks for itself (or should do!)
There is no guaranteed electable candidate, but there ARE some un-electable candidates in the race.
I’m starting to think all these polls give romney 10 or 15 free points to start out with. Like affirmative action.
