Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the 2008 Republican presidential standard-bearer, has taken pains to avoid weighing in on the 2012 GOP primary. But on Sunday, McCain said he was "very disappointed" that some Republicans defended waterboarding at Saturdays National Journal/CBS debate in South Carolina.
Waterboarding is torture, McCain, who was a prisoner of war and tortured during the Vietnam War, said via Twitter.
On Saturday, Herman Cain and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota both endorsed waterboarding as an interrogation technique. President Obama banned its use at the beginning of his term, calling it cruel and counterproductive.

I wonder where McCain stands on the assassination of US Citizens.
McClown is a GOP torture.
Well, it’s official now. McCain has said waterboarding is torture. Now all discussion must be stopped on this hot topic. /sarcasm.
Having to listen to McCain’s “wisdom” is torture. He’s only outshined in dumbness by his offspring.
Listening to you, John, is torture.
As long as they're not waterboarded /sarcasm.
You mean the U.S. citizens who were fighting for the other side in a war?
Thanks again, Arizona.
Thank God we tortured sheik mohammed, otherwise some of these clowns that oppose waterboarding, would be dead.
Hey I know, lets nominate a RINO so McQueeg will be happy and think he has a shot if he just runs one more time.
Disagree with him, but this is one time where I will give him a pass, only because of the 6 years of Hell he endured in the Hanoi Hilton.
Still, waterboarding is not torture. No pain other than the “psychological” fear of drowning is present, and since the terrorist should be smart enough to realize that US laws don’t allow us to drown him, there really isn’t anything involved other than minor discomfort.
Now listening to Nancy Pelosi read the audio version of her book “watching paint dry”, now that would be classified as torture.
First, thank you for your service. Second, shut up loser.
Waterboarding is torture the same way fingernails on a blackboard is torture, or the relentless din of blaring heavy-metal music aimed at an enemy holed up in a compound is torture.
No, torture is having your fingers lopped off one at a time with a pair of wire cutters. Torture is having bleach poured down your throat. Torture is having your kneecaps shot. Torture is having parts of your body blow-torched to black cinders and then ripped off with pliers. Torture is having a pair of tree-branch loppers applied to your genitals.
There are countless ways to inflict real torture, and part of the torture is the realization by the victim that his body will be forever damaged, forever missing pieces. Forever. Now THATs torture.
Being dowsed with water in the morning and then still being able to play shortstop for the terrorist softball team in the afternoon is NOT torture.
McCain should do us all a favor and just endorse Obama.
Twitter? I heard he couldn’t type from his war wounds. Not defending the king of the rinos, but......
“McClown is a GOP torture”
LOL. Back to sucking up for media attention by bashing GOP. P*ss Off McCain.
This is the official stance of the US military that a young John McCain was taught. He is not an original thinker, he is an academy grad, he was a professional soldier. So it is not too surprising to me to hear him toe the company line rather than think about whether or not the company line was or is right.
Our Spec Ops folk experience Water Boarding. What would John “Butt Munch” McCain call slowly sawing off the head of a prisoner?
