Meanwhile Obama put his “birthplace” of Hawaii in Asia.

Oh please, I never said that. I just don’t think we have to look for specific people on a specific career path. There are other criteria than that.

People can use whatever criteria they like. I look for someone with relevant experience. The presidency is not an entry level position. I look for someone with a proven record, so that their abilities and their reliability can be measured.

Anyone can talk and say things. That's no more reliable than a televangelist or an infomercial pitchman. I want a track record.

The most relevant experience would be a governor. They serve as an executive in a republican form of government. There is no better proving ground than that for the presidency.

1. Bill Clinton
2. George Bush

Good training ground. It’s worked out so well.

Is that your version of logic? It’s faulty.

No, you said the governorship was a good proving ground. I just provided the latest 2 examples. Were they not governors (your criteria) before becoming president?

This is where your "logic" falls apart. I am not saying every governor will make a good president. That's idiotic. Only a complete dope would even suggest it.

I'm saying someone who has served as governor has a record that can be measured. In the case of Clinton and GWB, their records gave me ample reason to not vote for either one of them---and I didn't.

Someone with no record, like, say, Herman Cain, can say anything he likes (no matter how garbled and unintelligible) and there is no accountability--no record.

So I look among those with a record of relevance and try to find someone with a GOOD record. Not ANY record. Hope that clears up your confusion.

How did Cain manage to have a long successful career in business if he is “garbled and unintelligible”? I’m sick of the potshots on the guy. Either post your resume that makes his looks like he’s an idiot or stop the Cain is stupid crap. Tell us all how you are much smarter than the idiot Cain. Post your resume.

By not getting in over his head. Being president ain't running fast food joints.

Now he just ran fast food joints? Lie. Gonna post your resume to show us all you are so much smarter than idiot Cain, or just keep taking keyboard potshots? POST your resume. I’m sure it’s so much better than fast food jobs. Put up or shut up.

Is there a way you can have this conversation without calling me a name? Did I call you anything like a “complete dope”?

And logic was your word, not mine. My point was the last 2 governors who became president didn’t exactly put their experience to good use. Or maybe they just didn’t learn the “right” things. I don’t know.

However, if it’s true that this “training ground” doesn’t always produce the best candidate doesn’t it also stand to reason that the best candidate can come from somewhere besides government?

How is it Cain has NO record? Did his jobs not produce any record? Do you think the NRA just said, “hey, this guy looks kinda cool...we have no idea whether he has any experience but let’s just make him president of the whole dang thing!” Maybe his record isn’t the kind YOU are looking for but to say he is without one is disingenuous.

I think Cain’s record of accomplishments IS a good record. I think he has proven leadership ability. You don’t. That’s fine. But I’m not confused. People have different qualifications they’re looking for. Evidently you have issues discussing those things without anger and insults. Too bad. I’m sorry you’re going through life with such a chip on your shoulder. I truly am, because it’s really no way to go through life.

It isn't "knocking" to tell the truth. Newt is a well-spoken articulate progressive. Haven't we been fooled enough?
