Romney on Romneycare: ‘I Am Not Going to Walk Away From That’
National Review ^ | 2011-11-17 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 11/17/2011 3:56:42 PM PST by rabscuttle385

Don’t expect Mitt Romney to backtrack on his Massachusetts health-care plan at any point this election cycle.

“I am sure there are many people who have calculated, and perhaps correctly, that the healthcare plan I put in place in Massachusetts is not good for me politically, and if I want to encourage my political future, I should say it was a mistake and walk away from it,” Romney told Fox Business Network host Neil Cavuto in an interview set to air later tonight.

“You have seen a lot of candidates look at their biggest vulnerability, call it a mistake, and ask for forgiveness,” Romney continued. “In my case that wouldn’t be honest.”

He affirmed that he believes the health-care program was the “right thing” for Massachusetts then, although he conceded that it hasn’t “worked perfectly.”

“If it hurts me politically, it’s a consequence of the truth,” Romney added. “I am not going to walk away from that. It’s right for states to come up with their own solutions. I doubt other people are going try and follow the one we put together. Maybe learn from our experience. Maybe come up with something better. But the wrong course is to have the federal government impose its will on the entire nation.”

He's a douchebag.

Where does he get off forcing residents of a state to buy medical insurance enforced by the local IRS and then turn around and say it was right for the residents of Mass because he says so , but other states, if they are lucky, can decide for themselves?

Good Lord, a majority Americans are stupid, but GOP primary voters are not THAT stupid.

My sincere hope is that if Mitt is the nominee, it will cause mass defections from the GOP and the birth of a new political party.

“Me thinks the patient ( GOP ) has only months to live ( 2012 ) wherein a new body ( party ) will take over.”

From your keyboard to God’s ears.

Massachusetts already had 92% of population with health insurance
an outlier.

However, Mitt keeps saying for 92% of the population, nothing changed.

Uh....

YOU HAVE TO FILL OUT A FIVE PAGE FORM WITH YOUR MA STATE TAX RETURN. SCHEDULE HC. IF YOU DO NOT FILL OUT SCHEDULE HC, YOU
GET A LETTER FROM THE STATE Dept. of REVENUE. YOU MUST FILL THIS
OUT OTHERWISE YOU WILL GET THE MAXIMUM PENALTY.

YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR HEALTH INS. CO. , YOUR PERSONAL ID NUMBER!!!
YOU BIRTHDATE (becuase everyone over 18 must do this)

That’s COMMUNISM.

If you try to talk to the DOR, guess what???? THey will not care.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE A STATE APPROVED HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN

YOU ARE GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT

THERE IS A VIOLATION OF THE FIFTH AMENDMENT (due process, takings clause)
FOURTH AMENDMENT (violating my privacy)
FIRST AMENDMENT (Freedom of association — to contract my own heatlh)

AND MITTENS SAYS NOTHING CHANGED

WEll sure Hitler and Mussolini said nothing changed either.

If a state wants an Obamacare-style health care system, that should be the choice of that state and its voters.

What I’m against is the federal government forcing it on the entire country, whether it wants it or not.

Each state should be allowed to decide on the best means to insure and provide health care to its residents.

“My sincere hope is that if Mitt is the nominee, it will cause mass defections from the GOP and the birth of a new political party.”

We’ll see. My fear is that many/most conservatives will vote for any socialist, so long as it comes with an R label attached.

This issue is my number one problem with Romney, even more than the flip flops. If he is elected with a Republican Congress, will he really repeal Obamacare, or will he renege and just do a “fix”? He obviously has been, shall we say, flexible in his views on health care over time.

That's my fear. Having voted socialist R once or twice myself when the alternative was an even bigger commie, I understand the temptation all too well.

I do think we'll eventually wind up with 3 main parties - Green/Liberal, Dem/Repub, and Conservative.

Then let them pay for it.

Your giving him to much credit. He had a problem, he would have to choose, Do I back the challenge to O-car at the Supreme? THAT is the QUESTION that MATTERS.

He is just trying to seperate the two which is impossible.

Now he can be asked straight, do you think Obamacare is unconstitutional? Will you repeal Obamacare?

OK, so the marxists running MASS will have no problem putting up a repeal of ROMNEYCARE on the ballot in 2012?.

The truth is that scumbags like that coward from a family of military service avoiding cowards MYTH ROMNEY are busy, busy, busy imposing their schemes on Joe six pack (who can't fight back), and he has a better chance of surviving jumping out of an airplane without a parachute than he does becoming POTUS.

Willard CANNOT back away from Romneycare- he’s already painted as a flip-flopping weathervane. If he disavows the single biggest, most visible, and worst thing he ever did, he’ll cement that label forever.

He MUST stick to this or prove he’s a waffler.

Hey four more years of Obama is no biggie. It will keep the traffic on FR and Rush’s ratings and ad revenues at high levels.
