S.E. Cupp : Occupiers and Tea Party Are Linked More Than Either Admits
Newsmax ^ | NOVEMBER 17, 2011 | S.E. Cupp

Posted on 11/17/2011 5:49:54 PM PST by RobinMasters

As partisans on the left and right try to co-opt and compare the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street movements, both sides ignore that they aren’t really that different at all. Both, in fact, hew to the same conventions as all mass movements. And as the 2012 presidential candidates — including President Obama — attempt to form their positions on each one, they’d all be wise to put them in perspective.

In Eric Hoffer’s seminal 1951 work, “The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements,” the similarity is drawn with startling clarity.

The work of a self-educated gold prospector-turned-longshoreman-turned philosopher, the treatise examines important mass movements in history from the French Revolution to the Nazis. It’s also refreshingly devoid of political correctness. Hoffer describes those who may be susceptible to the allure of mass movements in practically Dickensian terms: They are either “misfits,” “spinsters” or “the inordinately selfish,” to name a few.

Idiotic. Only as similar as the difference between people who pay taxes and people who live off them.

Hey now. Maybe it was more towards the beginning of the thing ... but I saw some interviews with groups that were more reasonable.

I’m not arguing that the socialists/communists are there. I know they are.

I think there are more than a few misguided young kids, too ... who don’t like the government, but don’t really know why.

“Why would they complain about government dysfunction?”

Why would anyone? There’s a lot of corruption there. I don’t think only the right is onto it.

Did anyone actually read the article?

I did; and where to start? She bases her thoughts off the writings of a "self-educated gold prospector-turned-longshoreman-turned philosopher" - really? The mere description tells me that I don't need to bother listening to anything such a person might have to say. She then goes on to state that America hadn't seen any mass movements prior to 1951 - really? Abolitionists never existed? Neither temperance leagues nor suffragettes?

Bears and racoons both - ah, do their duty in the woods. But they don't have much in common.

Agree, the government is corrupt. My point was that their people had full control of it for two years and still there were no flying unicorns with rainbow emanations. So, I am a little sick and tired of these people stinking up our public places and directing the anger at the wrong people. They should be camped outside of the White House and Capitol Hill if they truly want to target what is most wrong with this country.

I’m not arguing that the socialists/communists are there. I know they are.

The unions and commies organized this whole thing.

Do some research on Andy Stern, Steven Lerner (SEIU) and Trumpka (AFL-SIO) and for good measure George Soros.

They are behind this, financing it and have a goal....the downfall of the USA and her capitalist system to institute a global socialist "utopia"

Obama is the anointed one to see that it all comes true.

These ows people are nothing but useful idiots in their scheme.

Looks about like a c-cup too.

I'd need some hands on investigation to be sure but I'm pretty confident in my visual assessment.

Ok... I know I know I know ....

I know about Stern. I know about Trumka and what’s his name that got killed...Wally Lamb? I know all about Soros.

I know about the liberal bloggers that organize and agitate. I know that this movement is BS.

But I believe some were sucked in with good intentions due to corruption in the government....

Eventually, no amount of hotness can make up for stupid. A German Shephard can come to more logical conclusions than the very comely Ms. Cupp.

Sad when the day comes where the stupid just crowds everything else out.

I read the article carefully, twice.

I still come to the same conclusion as I have in past.

S.E. Cupp has little or no writing talent and has consistently demonstrated that she is incapable of explaining simple or complex ideas. Sadly, almost everyone is just too embarrassed to tell her. Sara Elizabeth is yet another person who was hired purely on looks.

S.E. Cupp is the reason why everyone gets a trophy so that in fact, no one gets a trophy.

S.E. Cupp reminds me of the untalented little girl with the scrapbook and pen who was always encouraged to esteem herself and that her work, no matter how absent of thoughtfulness or originality, was good.

At one time, S.E. might have made a good waitress or table-dancer or whatever. She just hasn't cut it as a writer and I don't accept she can 'wing-it' until she gets the hang of it. Sara Elizabeth might consider more formally joining the ranks of the OWS crowd to gain an identity for herself because her 15 minutes were over several months ago.

Of course, the above is my own opinion. YMMV.

The Nazis and Communists had one thing in common, they both wanted to bring down the Weimar Republic. They were still mortal enemies.

Ergo the term "useful idiots"

Stalin understood their purpose well, the idiots don't though as they are always the first to be swept away when they have fulfilled their purpose and are no longer needed.

Look at what's happening now, the average people of this Country are not liking what they are seeing so it's time to give the appearance of squashing them, hence the clean up that is occurring now.

But rest assured, this is just part of the process/plan, the idiots still have a purpose, they need to get violent so a little agitating is in order.

All in all, I'd say the plan is right on schedule.

So true, especially when the hotness is mostly relegated in about two foot of leg. Now it’s a good two foot mind you, but that’s about it.

This "analysis" is shockingly incoherent, especially from a reporter from Beck's stable of otherwise reliable reporters. I have watched Cupp on GBTV Friday nights when Beck is absent and the staff folks have a rountable on events of the week. She is an atheist, not a Cain supporter, and that is all I know of her.

But what she says here might be boiled down to:

Two women are crying. One of them has just been sentenced to a prison term for attempted murder of her husband to get life insurance, and is crying about not getting access to the money she about dreamed so often. The other women is crying because a neighbor she has spent months counseling for the death of a husband, feeding the woman's family, making sure the bills were paid, has committed suicide.

According to Cupp, both would come under the category: The Similarity of Crying Women

Your standards are higher. The whole Cupp is generally, in my book, pretty hot.

But, then the mouth opens and the moment is over.

Refer them to Yamamoto "a gun behind every blade of grass"

This is our war to lose, not for them to win....I have faith we'll not let our Country slip into the hands of these indoctrinated tools.
