Perry: Obama policies have made border less safe

NEW YORK—Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry says President Barack Obama and his administration are responsible for policies that have endangered agents patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Texas governor made his remarks while picking up an award from the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation.

Perry said lack of funding and "bureaucratic bungling" in Washington have made the border less safe.

He singled out one program in particular, Operation Fast and Furious. The arms-trafficking probe run by the Justice Department allowed AK-47s and other weapons to leak into the black market.

“To say that the border is safer than ever is to turn a blind eye to the very real dangers of federal and state law enforcement,” Perry said. “Even worse he sweeps aside the fact there is bureaucratic bungling that has made the border substantially more dangerous. Through the ill-conceived operation know as “fast and furious,” for instance, our own federal government provided more than 2,000 firearms to some of the most dangerous criminals in North America, many of which are still unaccounted for. Federal law enforcement officials deserve an attorney general who displays the same courage and sense of responsibility with which they serve. And America deserves a president and a Congress willing to give law enforcement officials the support they need to truly support our border.”

Of course he’s right. And of course Perry’s critics on this subject are wrong.

How many of them have actually served as governor of a border state?

...”Perry, who was at the Waldorf Astoria event to receive the group’s State Service Award, often laments the dangers presented by drug cartels and describes parts of the border as “a war zone.”

On Friday, he reiterated that sentiment, saying, “Mexican drug cartels are a clear and present danger to America.”

Perry got an enthusiastic reception for his proposals for smaller government and for his assertion that members of Congress who use privileged information in stock dealings should be treated like criminals.

“Any congressman or senator who’s used their insider knowledge to trade, to make money in the stock market oughta go to jail, period,” he said to applause.”

Insisting on a secure border while supporting in-state tuition for the children of illegal aliens is disingenuous.

One is due to the Federal government’s refusal to secure the border. Take it to the Feds. Gov. Perry has tried to get them to do their job. Doesn’t work so he’s working to take the White House and get the job done from there.

Exactly. If Mitt Romney is McCain Version 2.0, then Perry is McCain Version 2.1.

Same old. Same old. Speak loudly and carry a wet noodle.

NRO: “Perry Criticizes Administration Over Fast and Furious”

....”Perry pledged that if elected, he would increase by thousands the number of border patrol agents on the border, and use “aviation assets” to provide real-time information to those on the ground. “We must secure that border,” he emphasized.

Perry also touted his new “Uproot and Overhaul Washington” plan, particularly its elimination of lifetime terms for Supreme Court justices and its plank to cut congressional members’ pay in half and push for a part-time Congress. “In our home state, our legislature meets for 140 days, every other year,” he argued, noting that if a nation, Texas would be the world’s 13th largest economy.”...

These critics who blame Perry for the untenable position the states find themselves in with regard to the border, are the ones who are disingenuous.

Throwing out a welcome matte, has a larger effect, and perry has not offered one thing to stop it, but he has offered a perpetual work visa.

What is "BS" about Perry's self-declared support for in-state tuition for illegal alien children?

Gov. Perry and Texans would sure like it if all those critics would send some of their states' budgets to add to what we've spent ($400 million) from our pockets to secure the 1250 mile INTERNATIONAL border Texas alone shares with Mexico -- and while they're at it they can send some of those NY Rangers and Michigan Rangers and California Rangers, etc to stand with our Texas Rangers who are putting their lives on the line to keep all Americans safe.
