...You would be surprised at how many Republican Latinos there actually are in the state of Nevada. There are quite a few of us, said Alex Garza, a Hispanic Republican activist. I think the numbers are there; we just havent organized as well as the Democratic Latino organizations.
The potential political power of Latinos is an oft-told story in Nevada and elsewhere, though any happy ending at the polls usually is enjoyed by Democrats.
...During the Republican presidential candidates nationally televised debate in Las Vegas last month, they were asked how they would speak to the Latino community. Newt Gingrich suggested that Latinos didnt need to be singled out as any different from any other ethnic group. But Rick Santorum suggested Latinos should naturally gravitate toward the Republican Party because of shared faith-based values.
That message resonates with some Latinos.
The Republican Party has very, very strong family values ... Latino families in general believe in the family values as well, said Jose Hernandez, an accountant who serves as a youth pastor at his evangelical church with a mostly Latino group of 18- to 30-year-olds he counsels.
My youth that I teach, obviously Im teaching them Biblical principles and stuff, but then outside, I introduce them to the subject ... and by doing that Im actually getting people to start coming around and thinking that the Republican agenda actually has better options than President Obama and the Senate, he said. If theyre learning good Christian values, they will vote Republican.
Catching the youth is key any effort to gain support in the community. Nationwide, every month, 50,000 Latinos turn 18 and become eligible to vote.
Cantu and Garza say the party is working on it but could use funding and assistance from the greater Nevada GOP...

I'm sure that Obama didn't say these things to La Raza:
Gov Rick Perry spoke to LaRaza about the drug cartels, shared responsibility of border security and that it is Washington's responsibility to secure the border -- that the Federal government should support the military, deliver the mail and secure the border -- and they aren't doing their job. [HE RECEIVED a lot of applause] He spoke of the money Texas spends securing the border, that it must be sealed and then we can sustain legitimate commerce...He told about protecting the sanctity of the vote and strengthening our shared values, family, faith, hard work -- they are TEXAS values and we should unite as citizen's of one Nation under God and concentrate on what unites us. He told his Cuervo joke and they found it funny unlike the Liberal Latino Leaders Give Perry Lukewarm Response (or more likely they'd heard it before)
And why?
Because he's the best candidate for the job, that's why. The one who is going to do what he says and it appears there are some here on FR who can not abide that.
Anyone who tags the term “hater” is a damned liberal in my book. Yeah, I “hate”. I hate career politicians that claim to be something they aren’t. I hate frauds who engage in the same vile statist crap that liberals engage in then build their image around the diametric opposite of how they “govern”. So yeah, I generally hate frauds like Perry who claim to be all-American conservatives but who have a dismal history of acting otherwise.
You really are on a tear today.
I guess some good shots hit their mark.
The Perry voters are Mexico's "voting blocs".....the more the merrier....for Mexico. Keep in mind:
(1) Mexican pressure groups are needed to get reconquista done (financed by a Perry WH?),
(2) Mexico is salivating over the prospect of billion dollar foreign aid appropriations.....
(3) vote-crazed pols go ballistic when pressured by hyphenated voting blocs....especially those with multiple identities who vote several times, each.
==============================================
The most damning information yet about Perry is that Dem hispanics voted him into office. Schizo Perry is now changing his tune, careening back and forth between messages---now he's trying to convey to us how "conservative" he is.
I know what Perry said. “You don’t have a heart” is a backhanded way of saying “heartless”. The thread is about Perry, but if Gingrich said it, then a pox on him too. Illegal means exactly what it is. Pols like Perry want to parse it like there’s some nuance that allows him to give favor to Hispanics for votes. So yeah, I’ll bash any pol, including La Raza Rick who engages in identity politics for access to a voting block. We’re Americans, not a bunch of damned tribes given special dispensation and influence for political gain, or at least we should be.
Exactly...it is only about Perry bashing...nothing whatsoever about what Perry said.
Perry has a dedicated organized crime mindset----acts like a consigliere---bestowing favors on those who swear allegiance to his "political organization."
Perry's "heartlesss" remark can be seen in that context---those who do not swear allegiace to him are excluded...and demeaned.
The organization steps in----pro-Perry posters remonstrating the nay-sayers. Expect an arm-twisitng if we don't kiss Perry's ring.
Very good and something I’ve thought about a lot lately.
I don’t think that is true. I don’t know where you live but I live in Texas among Mexicans, legal and illegal.
They are mostly hardworking, family oriented people. Why would they vote democrat. Only if the Republicans hate and trash them.
Contrary to some opinion around here, Perry did not hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the border and provide limos for illegals to come into Texas.
Illegals have been entering our country for years and little or nothing was done about it. People only started worrying about it maybe ten years ago and worrying more because our economy is so bad and blaming Obama aint enuf for some.
Therefore Texas is pretty dang full of Mexicans, both legal and illegal.
Right or wrong, illegals do get benefits. This is because although the vast majority of them work, they work at low-paying, menial jobs that (YES) Americans wont do. So they get benefits, mostly food stamps and medicaid.
It this is wrong, it should be stopped, but it wouldnt be easy.
Except for the drug dealers and miscreants whove come through, most of the Mexicans are decent likeable people, with strong family values. They do those lowly jobs cheerfully and without resentment.
The Texas legislature in 2001 adopted a plan to try to help the children of illegals move out of that poverty class and into a class who could pay taxes and be more of a benefit to society instead of a drag on it.
A plan was instigated to allow CERTAIN children of illegals to attend college with the privilege of only paying in-state tuition. There were stringent requirements as to who would be able to receive this benefit; on the path to citizenship, high school degree, etc.
This plan does not cost the state a thing. In fact, it helps the colleges. So many people equate it with free tuition. It’s not free. They pay the same tuition as every other Texas student.
However, hardly any of these people go to the more expensive universities like UT. Most of them go to community colleges or junior colleges where the tuition is already low.
This seemed like a good plan to all but 4 members of the Texas legislature when it was passed. If Perry had disagreed with it, he couldnt have stopped itit was veto proof.
.
Can you put up a photo of the Great Governor of Texas reading a book rather than shooting an animal? I’d sure appreciate it.
The GOP does not get a majority Hispanic vote and there is no reason to believe they ever will.
From 1980 to now, around 2 out of 3 Hispanics votes Democratic Party, give or take a few percent.
Hispanic presidential voting history:
2008 31% GOP - 67% Democrat
2004 35% GOP - 65% Democrat
2000 35% GOP - 62% Democrat
1996 21% GOP - 72% Democrat
1992 25% GOP - 61% Democrat
1988 30% GOP - 70% Democrat
1984 34% GOP - 66% Democrat
1980 37% GOP - 56% Democrat
The GOP always gets about 20%-35% Hispanic vote.
The Dems always get about 55%-70% Hispanic vote.
And Baby Bush flooded us with voters who vote against the GOP 55%-70% of the time. Great!
Yes, blacks are a solid voting block for Democrats while the Hispanics are only an entrenched 66%. Why flood the country with people who will vote 2 to 1 to vote for your enemy? Oh, because you sold out your own political base and cut your own party’s throat to grease the palms of your friends.
We can hope that some magic trick will occur and Hispanics will tend to vote GOP over Donkey. Or we can be realistic and know its never going to happen. The GOP will cease to exist as a political party before they get a majority Hispanic vote, no matter that the Hispanic voting block is not as solidly for Democrats as blacks or Jews. Doesn’t matter. Bush, with his Dad, Clinton and Obama, have flooded us with Hispanics who mainly vote Democrat.
Heh———dream on.
hFef.......drean on.
Connivers like Perry bestows favors on Hispanics in exchange for votes.*** pro-Perry posters remonstrating the nay-sayers. Expect an arm-twisting if we don't kiss Perry's ring. ***
Riiiiight, 'Kiss Perry's ring'. My A$$. I don't know if it's the Irish or German in me but I tend to be BIT stubborn - which got me in 'a few' fights in my time :-) - but Perry, his Paid Cronies, and his Bots can kiss MY 'ring'. I'm 'heartless and 'a bigot' LaRaza Rick. Stick that up your pandering patoot
And as a Great Man once said
The Republican Party cannot be all things to all people. And for the young or forgetful, that Great Man was Ronald Reagan. And what he said still rings true today and what he meant was: 'No Pandering!' One either 'is' or 'isn't' and believes in the principles of the party or doesn't. And that means all of them.
Rrgo, the 'Hispanic Bloc' waiting for some nice words and promises of goodies can IMHO, go to hades. Because if you want those, turn to the commieRATS.
Period, end.
Postscript. 'If' the 'Hispanics' have such greeeeeat 'Family Values' how come about One Million of them (and growing) are criminal, drug dealing, gang-banging killers? 'Pander' that for a moment.
/rant
I have it on authority that Perry is a lover of Proust. After he shoots a deer or a very small bird, he eats a madeleine and remembers things past.
Unfortunately, Anita still reads Harold Robbins books.
“2000 35% GOP - 62% Democrat”
That election really jarred the Dems, not just because they lost, but because if that trend continued they were done. As a Roman Catholic, I know my co-religionists support many of the most liberal Dems out there, but as long as the vote is split it is worth pursuing.
GW Bush did a decent job attracting their votes (he did even better when running for governor of Texas); we don’t necessarily need to run Hispanic candidates, but we need to run on the issues that matter to them.
As far as flooding the country with them, they are simply the children Americans refuse to sacrifice for; at that point you can decide whether you want Asians, Africans, or Latin Americans.
Thanks shield.
Mmmmmmmmm.............that madeleine must taste good after
downing a slab of slaughterhouse beef BBQed to oblivion over a pile of hickory chips.
