Happy Halal Thanksgiving (Boycott Butterball)
American Thinker ^ | November 21, 2011 | Pamela Geller

Posted on 11/21/2011 6:47:27 PM PST by Mount Athos

Did you know that the turkey you're going to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day this Thursday is probably halal? If it's a Butterball turkey, then it certainly is.

I discovered that only two plants in the U.S. that perform halal slaughter keep the halal meat separated from the non-halal meat. At other meat-packing plants, animals are slaughtered following halal requirements, but then only a small bit of the meat is actually labeled halal.

Wendy Howze, a Butterball Consumer Response Representative, responded: "Our whole turkeys are certified halal."

Halal slaughter involves cutting the trachea, the esophagus, and the jugular vein, and letting the blood drain out while saying "Bismillah allahu akbar" -- in the name of Allah the greatest. Many people refuse to eat it on religious grounds.

Others object because of the cruelty to animals that halal slaughter necessitates.

Still others refuse to do so on principle: why should we be forced to conform to Islamic norms? It's Islamic supremacism on the march, yet again.

Non-Muslims in America and Europe don't deserve to have halal turkey forced upon them in this way, without their knowledge or consent.

The same Islamic law that mandates that animals be cruelly slaughtered according to halal requirements also teaches hatred of and warfare against unbelievers, the oppression of women, the extinguishing of free speech, and much more that is inimical to our freedom. Don't support it on this celebration of freedom. Join our Facebook group, 'Boycott Butterball'.

Don't buy a Butterball turkey for Thanksgiving.

Too late. Can I make up for it by passing gas in the direction of Mecca?

I believe that Butterball says their turkeys are halal. I just have a hard time that they have an individual praying to allah while each individual turkey is slaughtered. Or that they contribute a proceed from each halal turkey to some Islamic charity.

I bet they think that halal is similar to kosher and has to do solely with preparation.

Gee, great idea to demand a Butterball Boycott when most people have already bought their birds. That’s like the TV News showing the wild drinking, drugs and sex binges of Spring break 2 weeks after break has taken place. Boycotts seldom work. And most people won’t care much of a drat where the throat was cut, just as long as the bird isn’t still flapping when being stuffed into the oven.

We’ve been buying honey ham for quite a few year and making our own dressing, I cooked Butterball.....and I found them DRY AS DIRT.....no matter HOW I cooked them. Good riddance, IMO.

If I boycotted every company that ticked me off I’d be living a subsistence life in a tiny little hut in Montana.

1Cr 10:25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, [that] eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

1Cr 10:28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth [is] the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:

If you don’t believe in Allah, what difference does it make? Buy Butterball and don’t give away your power. By boycotting you admit it makes a difference.

My hope is that they're just jiving the moslems to get them to buy the turkeys...maybe later they'll announce the secret self-basting medium is bacon grease.

Good grief! Why shouldn’t companies provide food that ethnic customers are willing to purchase? Makes for increased sales and a better bottom line. Why punish a company simply because you don’t like the customer base to which it’s trying to expand?

I called the ButterBall Hotline and asked the nice lady who answered of the Butterball was Halal. She said yes. I asked if that means if a Muslim prayer was said over every turkey. She got flustered and looked up a corporate boiler plate text saying yes that the butter ball met hallal standards and that it was humane and holesome.

I said that ok but the question about the prayer wasn’t answered. She said she would find out.

I said that’s a good idea because they were going to get a deluge of calls about this and you’d better get it right.

Haven't bought a Butterball in years...so over rated and over priced. Give me a dirt cheap generic turkey and home brine it,seasoning and the correct cooking time and temp, it will beat any Buttball.

I do believe we had a thread on that yesterday that got beyond the surface manifestations of the story and determined that the basic Halal requirement is simple ~ that the turkey not have been slaughtered in the name of some other God than Allah.

And they are not.

For most Halal products the goal is to have NO pig fat in them ~ which, because this is America, leads most Moslems who care about Halal to look for vegetarian products cooked in vegetable oils. That leads them to look for the big P that means pareve, or neutral, prepared without meat or dairy products or byproducts.

That's also of considerable interest to East Asians and others who are lactose intolerant.

Frankly, if I can't tell from the product list I'll look for Kosher for Passover which means no wheat, barley or rye (as well as a couple of other grains). "Kosher", by itself, is no guarantee that something is gluten free.

If they want to tell some idiots they chant over their Butterball so they will buy them, that is just good business. I wouldn't care if they said the gave the Seig Heil Salute to a dead bird... I know they don't.

I absolutely would care. I wouldn't consciously do business with committed Nazis. Not if they bragged about it.
