Ron Paul Says His Republican Rivals Want Bigger Government

Presidential hopeful Ron Paul says his rivals’ militant stances on “the defense of liberty” would make it difficult for him to support any of them for president should he not get the Republican nomination, because their positions would lead to bigger government. But the Texas congressman also told Fox News’ Neal Cavuto Wednesday that despite these concerns, he probably would not run as a third-party candidate.

“I would have trouble with what I heard last night because it is almost opposite of the defense of liberty that I’m talking about,” Paul told Cavuto, referring to Tuesday night’s presidential debate. “I mean, the Republican Party is supposed to be a party, you know, of defining small government — but when it came to the civil liberties, and the Patriot Act, and the invasion of privacy, and the Fourth Amendment — all these things — they wanted more government."

His isolationism.

Freedom is a messy business.

Yes, and Ron Paul would like to live in a isolationist fantasy world.

Yes, lets stay on the path we've been on for the past 20 years...Wide open borders with Mexico, tens of millions choking off our hospitals, social services, healthcare, jobs, etc...Big biz off shoring hundreds of thousands of jobs to Communist countries, while spending the American treasure on every other country on the planet, sending the next 6 generations into a cesspool of endless debt.

Looking sharp America!

All other candidates are willing to trample everybody’s civil liberties for security. If Paul’s main issue is liberty, then I do not fault him for not supporting anyone.

Yeah...and the British burned the White House. It was a war Madison never should have fought. The only American winner was Andrew Jackson who won the battle of New Orleans two weeks after the Treaty of Ghent was signed.

It was a stupid war.

Poor Ron Paul can't even keep his eyebrow from straying to foreign lands!

From Zero Hedge.

This is important for supporting what Ron Paul says.

The Fed’s stress test contains no interest rate movement, just mortgage rates rising to 5% for 2012. They do have home price declines of 20% and 0% GDP growth for 2012, but no interest rate shocks? What kind of a stress test is this??

This stress test is NOT applied to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or the FHA. Just more government protection of its own.

But what about Paul's eyebrows?

Good response!

There was no declaration of war during the cold war, but Reagan was committed to wipe out the Soviet Union. That alone should indicate that, at least in foreign policy matters, Reagan was NOT like Paul.

Please explain in what matter would Reagan agree with Paul?

I’m not a fan of Ron Paul, but I think there is a good balance of “the right way” between his positions and those of say, Cain, Bachmann or Santorum. He is entirely correct that Romney and Gingrich are big government RINOs.

Freddie and Fannie are at the very root of our dilemma.
That and the community reinvestment act.

We are in a web of BS.

I admire his tenacity on fiscal matters, but I think he is a loon for his isolationist stances. Couple that with his “open borders libertarian thinking” on drugs and I think he is a train wreck.

The man is a walking conflict.

Which is it Ron? Libertarianism or isolationism?

Hundreds of countries?

Last time I googled the number of countries, it showed a list of 214 countries.

...those problems seem to overshadow the rest of his message.

...That is a valid concern, What's unfortunate is Paul's consistency and his strict interpretation of the Constitution. That goes against some of the so called conservatives in the primary race and on this thread.

...Thou I support 90% of his policy, I have no illusions; he will probably not get the nomination. But, I'm sure the candidate that does win will include much of that policy into their governance.

...That's what this election is all or should be about, not a pretty face spewing a mouthful of promises never kept.

Well, I guess that makes Bush a "libtard" RINO.
