The troopers radar had Robert Jahns going 119 mph.
Not only was he well over the 70-mph speed limit, he was intoxicated and his wife and stepchildren, ages 5 and 16, were in the car, according to the Indiana State Police.
The family was driving through Steuben County, heading north on Interstate 69 to Battle Creek, Mich., for a Thanksgiving Day gathering.
Another motorist alerted authorities to Jahns driving, and trooper Chris Kinsey received a report about 5 p.m. Thursday that a vehicle was traveling at more than 100 mph on the interstate.
Kinsey later spotted Jahns car, a 2005 Chrysler, and clocked him at 119 mph before pulling him over. Kinsey suspected Jahns had been drinking, and a breath test at the Steuben County Jail showed he had a blood-alcohol level above Indianas legal limit of 0.08 percent, state police said.

BING!
Probably thought the speed limit was 169.
That is a guy in search of serious turkey dinner.
NASCAR driver Kyle Busch loses license after pleading guilty to 128 mph speeding.
He was sober, but stupid. This guy is drunk and stupid.
Well, if his wife bitches about his driving like mine does, he has already been punished enough........J/S
OK, that just strains credulity.
Two days ago, 2 teens broke 90mph in downtown Spokane at 4 a.m., crashed into a yogurt shop and came to rest about 16 feet inside the building. Totaled the building and probably the car. They got out and walked home. Ooops!

Maybe he was going downhill.
Officer - Sir do you realize you were going 119 mph when the speed limit is 70 miles per hour.
Drunk - Of course officer, but I was only going to be driving for 30 minutes and at 119 mph I would only travel 59 1/2 miles which is well under 70 miles in one hour.
Seriously though, who in their right mind would let a drunk drive. My aunt ALWAYS took the keys and drove when my uncle was drinking.
Another motorist alerted authorities to Jahns driving...
Forget the drinking. He’s too STUPID to drive.
Ha! Try this:
Ohio State Patrol Officer clocked on his personal motorcycle at 147 mph.
Once in high school I had my mom’s 66 Comet Cyclone up to what I think was about 140.
I’m not sure that’s the case. I’ve seen Honda Accords with speedometers going all the way to 160.
Laws are for the serfs, not the masters.
In high school I used to race my Mom's 1979 Pontiac Grand LeMans (350, 4 bbl) on a measured quarter mile. The speedometer only went to 85, but the guys with the stopwatches had me at about 125.
LOL, the decription probably fits the guy to a t. http://ww2.ajcmobile.com/autojuice/?targetUrl=http://www.ajc.com/news/clayton/clayton-cop-arrested-going-1241179.html
I saw the dashcam video of the Ohio incident. It was a huge story here in Columbus. All three of them (the two on bikes and the cop who pulled them over) were so relaxed and congenial it was ridiculous.
So does my Camry, but I doubt if it could be done with 4 cylinder showroom gear.
Could be the V-6 that gets the job done.
Cyclone with 427 medium riser?
Talkinjg on a cell phone at 119mph would have been ok though.
Wow. When I was 17 I was clocked at 117 (radar) in a 35mph zone. The cop said he was going to write me up for 20-over because anything more would be negligent driving. He instructed me to pay the ticket because if I went to court I would lose my license.
I paid the ticket.
Possibly. I'm no motorhead, but I suppose under the right conditions and an owner willing to blow an engine...
Best I’ve done on my speedometer (2007 4cyl Camry) is 105. Then my wife yelled at me. Imagine that.
... and some more serious rubber than those stock little donut tires that were OK decades ago but look patently ridiculous now. Suspension mods too. Those things look like they’re riding tippytoe, lol. Squirrelly if you topped a hundred to the point of easily airborne, no doubt in my mind. Too much airflow and turbulence under the chassis.
OK, that just strains credulity.
LOL! I was thinking the same thing. I was reminded of the same humor I felt when I heard that Rodney King was clocked in his Hyundai travelling nearly 100mph.
Only time I ever felt that (and my heart was in my throat) was at 110 mph in a 1990 Dodge Daytona V6. The front wheels felt like they were on ice (this was in the summer.)
140+ in any car, let alone a Camry, gives a visual sensation sort of like going into warp on the Enterprise, lol, everything blurs into a tunnel, the lane markers are solid instead of broken lines. Wouldn’t take much to kill yourself and it would happen very quickly, the suspension on practically any basic stock Japanese sedan will feel taxed and the slightest pavement irregularity unsettles it. Not advisable. There are far better, more stable vehicles for doing such a thing. Better places to do it, too, such as not on a public roadway.
The aero effects that came on those must’ve been purely cosmetic. If I’m thinking of the right vehicle it looked pretty planted. Must’ve been those K-Car roots. Everything they built back then originated with them, even their minivans.
I looked it up and the 427 did not come out in Cyclones until ‘68. I figured with the T-Bolt getting it earlier, it would have also made it to the Cyclone.
I guess the closest I am going to get to that is the ‘67 Fairlane GTA S code sitting in the shop awaiting restoration. Someday...
I am surprised the 440 Fury Interceptor was not faster judging on some threads contributed to by former California HP officers.
I cannot imagine running that speed on bias ply tires and maybe front drum brakes.
We got married 18 months later and I said plenty about that POS then.
That’s why mine has only been to 105 mph.
My 73 Vette with 454 was well over 140 at one time. Pretty sure my buddy was speechless when we were slowing down. 143 as indicated on my Ninja. Not a lot of room for error at those speeds. Needless to say, I cannot do that kind of thing now being an old fogey at 44 years of age.
Im not sure thats the case. Ive seen Honda Accords with speedometers going all the way to 160.
*************************************************
2011 4cyl. Accord tops out at 127 ,, governed to less than 130 so Honda can fit cheaper H rated tires...
2012 Camry V6 tops out at 128 , governed ... it runs a 1/4 mile in 14.1 at 101 ... that’s smoking hot ,,faster than most 1960’s big block musclecars that couldn’t find traction with F-70-14’s and a fistful of positrac , very few of them could break into the 13’s without slicks...
2011 Sonata 2.0L turbo , 14.5 @ 100 top speed 148 (drag limited) ...
Once in high school I had my moms 66 Comet Cyclone up to what I think was about 140.

NOT BELIEVABLE ,
Just a Mustang with weaker engines and more frontal area...
115 MAYBE
I had a 1970 Cougar with a Cleveland that couldn’t break 120 until I put a 385 series (429/460) distributor in it (351C distributors broke up at 5500 ,, 460 distributors remained stable to 7000).. and yes at high speeds my speedo read high...
I’ve had three cars up to stupidly extralegal speeds in my life, no Porsches or supercars, fairly prosaic, a late nineties Corvette that settled right in but the body integrity was a little lacking, squeaks, rattles and such. Fun, but I wouldn’t buy one (rented it), maybe the newer ones are better. Another was a 94 Maxima SE, pretty nice, felt like it was on rails right up to that point, good control, felt stable but ran out of steam, probably governed. The last I still have, a Sube GT turbo. Felt very happy at 120, but the suspension setup is a little unusual, soft bushings for a somewhat compliant ride while having a fairly firm suspension otherwise. It works quite well at speeds most people would be driving. But, sort of a vague roly-poly motion and an occasional sensation of wallowing at very high speed, didn’t like it and backed down. Love the car but sustained high speed runs are not it’s forté. Twisties, oh yeah, built for those, but not that.
Only time I drove a Corvette (an ‘87) I had it up to 90 in third gear on Rt. 128 in the Boston suburbs. I have no idea what the specs were for that car, I drove it after winning a bet and slowed down for traffic even though it was 2:00 AM (it never ended in Boston, even 25 years ago.)
I ran Bias ply VW tires on the front of my drag mustang I never worried about stopping, I worried about starting and getting there.
That’s sort of what i was remembering, don’t recall a model with concealed headlights though. I’ve never bought a Chrysler product, much as I admire some of their cars from the sixties to early seventies. They just don’t do it for me with their contemporary efforts, for whatever reason.
You got that right. I bought a 1967 Corvette when I got back from VN. The wimpy 427 cu. in. 435 HP model. No shortage of power.
But the aerodynamics would scare the crap out of you. Fastest I ever had the beast was 135-140 and still accelerating. Unfortunately, I got the feeling I would need to retract the landing gear very soon.
Scary for such a sexy shaped car to be so treacherous at high speed. If I had been rich, could have looked into how the guys that raced the car dealt with it...........Man, if I could have afforded to keep that car, what a blast it would be now.....
It was a typical post 1975 Chrysler...a consummate POS.
The roads in and around Boston strike me as very abrupt, you must have known them well. It’s a nerve wracking town to drive in for out of towners.
Do they still have that multi-directional tunnel with lane splits coming out of Logan? That thing looked lethal.
Possibly bolting weights in the front end? It would cut some speed but maybe keep the nose from lifting
