I've been wondering why they brought these allegations against Cain out during the Primary and not the General Election. After reading about a poll showing most of Cain's supporters will go to Newt it came to me. First of all they gambled that Cain will not win the primary (even without the allegations). Obama and the MSM fear that Romney would have the best chance against Obama. With Cain's voters going more to Newt this is their way of getting a candidate who is easier to beat (notice too how Cain initially suspected Newt and not Romney).

Respectfully, I don’t buy your idea of a single “they” as in “why did they” bring these charges, etc. In fact, while one was rather obviously a David Axelrod plant, I am not sure there necessarily was a “they” at all.
Second, while I respect that you had the courage to say that at least some in the Obama camp do in fact fear Romney the most, many around here will probably flame you for that. I won’t. I think some Dems fear Mitt, some fear Newt, some fear Cain (or did) - and all for different reasons. I am sure there is no consensus among Dems who the toughest opponent would be.
I do think you are dismissive of Newt’s chances in a general however, another part of your analysis I must respectfully “sell” and not buy.
Cain has a narcissistic side no one wanted to notice. Kind of like what happened to the Dems awhile ago.

I suspect it is the RNC. They want Romney since he is more of the elitist establishment RINO type.
Look how that worked out for them...
Now if Newt is the guy and he picks Cain as VP, slam dunk IMHO.
If he picks Romney no way. Again Romney's support is a mile wide and an inch deep if that. I ain't gonna get geeked up and man the phones for him...
After chatting with some FReepers yesterday, I am beginning to suspect this may go back to a grudge from 1994 and Cain publicly embarrassing a certain president on national television...

I disagree, they are drooling to get Romney as the only pubbie candidate, he’s the most beatable.
The GOP has been moderated into a coma while the democrats are starting to make the Taliban seem rational. Maybe its time for conservatives and independents to do some soul searching and figure out where they really stand.
Romney is a Democratic stooge and a proven Liberal; That’s why the Democratic Party and the liberal media are working overtime to assist his campaign in every way possible.
That pretty much excludes all of the presidential candidates except Cain.
If these women are being paid to do this, then I wouldn't rule out a rich old guard racist who doesn't want to have to choose between two African Americans in the next election.

Cain ain’t destroyed, but your boy Romney was dead (politically) before he started.
I don’t know which candidate would have the best chance of beating BO, but I would feel better if BO played some dirty tricks on Romney.

I may agree with Santorum over 90% of the time, be he's burnt toast if he goes up against Obama.
