Holder, Grilled on Gun Inquiry, Says He Won’t Resign
NY Times ^ | December 8, 2011 | CHARLIE SAVAGE

Posted on 12/09/2011 11:43:10 AM PST by neverdem

House Republicans pummeled Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Thursday over the disputed gun-trafficking investigation called Operation Fast and Furious, accusing the Justice Department of hiding the truth and lying to Congress in a slugfest of an oversight hearing.

Mr. Holder denied the allegations and declared that he would not resign.

Mr. Holder had testified about Fast and Furious on three prior occasions, and the hearing before the House Judiciary Committee produced few revelations. But it was the most politically charged session yet, as one Republican after another tore into the attorney general.

Representative F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. of Wisconsin, for example, called for “heads to roll” and threatened to impeach unspecified Obama administration officials. Representative Darrell Issa of California pronounced Mr. Holder in “contempt of Congress” for refusing to turn over certain internal departmental e-mails. Representative Ted Poe of Texas suggested that Justice Department officials should be prosecuted for manslaughter for recklessly allowing guns to fall into the hands of criminals.

In his opening statement, Mr. Holder suggested that critics were playing “politically motivated ‘gotcha’ games” and trying to “score political points.”...

--snip--

But Mr. Holder snapped near the very end, after Mr. Issa, who has been a leader of the Fast and Furious investigation, compared him to John Mitchell, the Nixon administration attorney general who went to prison for his role in the Watergate scandal.

“The reference to John Mitchell — think about that,” he said. “At some point, as they said in the McCarthy hearings, have you no shame?”

The comment was a paraphrase of a famous 1954 rebuke of Senator Joseph McCarthy, the Wisconsin Republican who rose to fame and power by accusing military and government officials of Communist sympathies, destroying careers and reputations. Mr. Issa shot back the same question: “Have you no shame?”...

An impeachment would put up to 17 rats in the Senate - those who are not in safe seats- in a real bind next November if they don't vote to remove.

Only if the MSM portrayed the events fairly. If it was played as a GOP vendetta, the Dems wouldn't feel pressured. Indeed, they'd play the brave, upstanding legislators who stood for truth against the baying hounds.

“At some point, as they said in the McCarthy hearings, have you no shame?”

How many people did McCarthy's actions get killed Mr. Holder? How many Federal agents died because of Tailgunner Joe's actions?

Ummm...Okay, Mr Issa, what now?

Wrap up Fast and Furious. Start investigations of gun walking in Texas, Indiana and Operation Castaway in Florida. Start an investigation of the State Department giving an export letter to a Zetas' front group and sending military hardware and high explosive ordnance to Columbus, New Mexico. Holder's claim that gun walking was limited to Phoenix has no credibility.

I'd like to see Hillary impeached too.

Can’t resign until they have a suitable replacement...
or they can plant him....
because he knows...
and we know he knows.

And he knows he knows.

You make a fantastic point and I can't believe no one yet has replied to it, so I will. Expose is indeed an extremely revealing word.

The House can easily impeach him. The Senate would probably fail to vote for conviction.

OTOH, Holder isn’t Clinton. This isn’t some lie over sex.

In this case, the stain came from Brian Terry’s blood.
