Herman Cain says he'd like to be secretary of Defense
LA Times ^ | Thursday December 15, 2011

Herman Cain is no longer running for president. He doesn't think he's likely to be picked as the eventual nominee's running mate, either. But he does have a Cabinet post in mind should the GOP win the White House next fall: secretary of Defense.

[....]

Cain shared the idea with ABC's Barbara Walters during her annual special on the "10 Most Fascinating People." And the veteran journalist was just a bit surprised.

Cain said he thought he'd be a good pick because he wants to "influence rebuilding our military the way it should be."

Walters, still stunned, reminded Cain of his struggles during the campaign with topics like Libya. And there is always Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan-stan.

"I have been doing my homework ever since that difficulty," Cain said.

Cain didn’t know if Pakistan was friend or foe?

Hey, I still can't make up my mind on that one.

Considering his shallow debate performance on foreign policy, that would be scary — Cain as SecDef.

I want to be secretary of ice cream or Asian massages, whichever pays better. And I want a unicorn as an assistant. Oh, and a talking penguin.

Just a reminder....when he QUIT running for prez in 2000, he supported Steve Forbes. Figure him out...he’s all about money and profit and not the working middle class....

In that case, Newt Gingrich should be OUT ASAP.

He got married not only to one but two of his mistresses. One was a staffer. I can't look at Calistra without seeing a visual of her head in his crotch on the Congressional Parking Lot......and she looks so GOPEstablishment. Pearls, red dress and shellacked bleached blond.

Newt Gingrich says he was to be President of the United States - why not traitor of the conservative party or advisor to Barrack Obama.

Not a chance. First of all no one would dare nominate him and if they did he would have to go through one tough vetting process with congress. Can you imagine the questions?

Gingrich isn’t quitting in the face of the predicted onslaught. Cain did, so he’s yesterday’s news. Like Palin. IOW, Gingrich is still punching.

Exactly. And by that "logic", i.e., because he dropped out, that's an admission that those allegations were true, then everything said about Sarah Palin and all those ethics complaints against her in Alaska must be true because she quit the governorship. The trash in Joe McGinnis' book must have been true also because she turned down running for president soon after that steaming pile of published manure came out.

I don't believe any of that crap about Sarah and I don't believe that crap about Herman and them quitting is not an admission of guilt.

As far as the story is concerned, Sec. of Defense, nah! Commerce would probably be a better fit.

Puh-lease. We really dodged a bullet getting this guy out of the running. I trust whoever becomes the nominee is smart enough to not give Cain ANY Cabinet or other appointed position.

Go back to selling your books and your pizzas, Herman.

Herman's lack of knowledge of foreign nations, culture and policy would put him at an extreme disadvantage in the arguments/discussions that occur at the cabinet level. He lacks the background to deal with the leftist arguments that come the career State Dept. types. Without knowledge and experience it is difficult to slap down them them. I'm sorry, but if he is faced with situation where the military needs to be properly used (killing and breaking things, followed by zero nation building) then 9-9-9 just won't cut it.

We need a hawk heading DoD; someone that needs to be restrained and only unleashed when needed.

Maybe Herman can get a job as the Bureau Director of STD Prevention at the CDC. I think he may have some personal knowledge about that.
