A well-informed, interested public is often hailed as the 'ideal' of democracy.
But a new Princeton study suggests that the opposite could be the case - and that people who have no interest at all could be vital to the working of a democratic society.
The uninformed are essential to democracy because their apathy helps to dilute the effect of powerful minority interests - for instance, highly educated elites - who would otherwise dominate public life.

The “system” in all it’s shapes and forms, always relies on the uninformed.
BTT
The gist being that anyone who doesn’t agree with liberals is ignorant. Example:
The Daily Show
NBC News
The View
Yada,yada...
You want to be with the “SMART!” people, right?
Mass democracy translates into the Rule By Elites. The good professor recognizes this old wisdom but through a different way, he's looking at it bottom up. Usually folks look at it either from the standpoint of the elites -- who play lip service to democracy as long as they are in control of it, and they can control flat-level mass democracy. Or from the viewpoint of the dispossessed of any time and place, who yell out in pain from the harsh dicta of the elites in control, or from the more local and personal damages of the mob and mob mentality the dispossessed sufferBecause the masses are easily controlled by propaganda and mass marketing.
Fish. The theory is based on schooling fish. Why not lemmings?
I’m very educated. I have actually been asked:
“You’re so well educated. How can you support Republicans?”
My response is always “Because I understand things about media propaganda, that you obviously do not.”
It really p**es them off, but it does make them stop and think for a moment, and that’s all that I can ask.
Democracies lead to tyrannies—they are defective governments—mob rule-—tyranny of the majority over the minority..... THE FOUNDING FATHERS set up a REPUBLIC to control the mobs.
We need to get rid of the 17 Amendment-—which centralized power in this country and return to the Republican principles—Marxists started destroying our Constitution back then—and with the Federal Reserve——no career politicians—just one term for all in DC——no lobbyists (bribers) allowed.
Judges who legislate from the bench are removed by Congressmen—if they deem they overstepped their oath—a hearing demanded by the majority of the town or district people is enough to establish a hearing. Immediately-—lose funding—lose office.
It is not that hard people.....WE THE PEOPLE ....are the boss. They work for us and these judges were NEVER set up to make up law. Homosexual marriage-—changing definition of words in Black’s Legal Dictionary is not allowed-—and preposterous and what they do in the Soviet Union when up means down so people have no freedom—the language is corrupted.

ELECTOR..One who enjoys the sacred privilege of voting for the man of another man’s choice.
Which helps explain why we aren’t(weren’t?) a democracy.

Once we know that social architects are looking for our Homer Simpson, we now know how to best deal with their arrogant entitled livelihoods.
I think today TV is the opiate of the masses.
They’re probably right. It’s republics that demand a well-informed and active citizenry.
This is not even close to the title of the linked article, "Vote for apathy? The uninformed are the key ingredient for a working democracy, study finds"
By the way, "say scientist" is not correct English in the USA, and I suspect it's not in England either. You might find some in the Outer Hebrides who speak like that.
Thank you for the link!
