Seven People Found Dead in Dallas-Area Apartment Published December 25, 2011

GRAPEVINE, Texas – Seven people believed to be related had opened their Christmas gifts and started cleaning up the wrapping paper when they were shot to death in a suburban Texas apartment, police said Sunday.

Authorities said they believe the shooter is among the dead, but got a warrant before doing a full search on the small chance that it was otherwise.

Four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, were found in an adjoining kitchen and living room area when police entered the apartment around midday, said Police Sgt. Robert Eberling. Two handguns were found near the bodies in the apartment that was decorated for the holiday with a tree, he added.

"It appears they had just celebrated Christmas. They had opened their gifts," Eberling said.

The victims have not yet been identified, but Eberling said it appears they all died of gunshot wounds. He said authorities still don't know what sparked the incident.

Grapevine Police Lt. Todd Dearing said investigators believe that all the victims were related, but that some were only visiting and didn't live in the apartment. He said police are looking for other relatives to inform. "Seven people in one setting in Grapevine, that's never happened before. Ever," Dearing said.

He said police were performing a "meticulous" search of the apartment and he expects them to be on the scene for many hours. Police and firefighters first rushed to the Lincoln Vineyards complex after receiving an open-ended emergency services call at about 11:30 a.m., Eberling said.

"There was an open line. No one was saying anything," he explained. So police went into the apartment, located in a middle-class, suburban neighborhood of Grapevine, not far from the upscale Fort Worth neighborhood of Colleyville.

Sometimes people just need to vent.
Sometimes they need to hear that things could be much worse and sometimes they need to hear that they are not alone in their pain.

Things are not good out there but they COULD be worse.

indeed..we spent about 1/3rd as usual and I have tightened my family budget by half and laid off folks over the past year

revenues down 30% minimum

but I remember being lower middle class as a kid ...like almost everybody was then

and I was still very happy

my ancestors were scratch farmers and small landowners but they were never predators, rarely had illegitimate kids nor were rude and surly

they would kill you if you crossed them though

i doubt folks in the great depression were as rude as they are now

and the assault of Christendom was not even thought of

I remember the year my dad made it to Sales Manager. We were rich! In 1974 he earned 25,000. We had all we could want and more. For a few years, I got great gifts with huge thought behind them. Maybe not the highest priced, but more than I needed.

I married my husband and he told me that in 1973 his dad earned 150,000, yet he always received the same presents of Hot Wheels cars.

Sometimes, it is not the amount we spend, but the thought that goes into it.

Here's more from a local television station covering the Christmas Day shooting:

We do have a good idea of what took place and why," said Sgt. Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department. Sgt. Eberling declined to reveal the suspected motive until autopsies of the victims are complete.

Sgt. Eberling also confirmed Monday that the suspected shooter, who was among the dead inside the apartment, was wearing a Santa Claus costume. Police said the middle-aged man did not live at the apartment but was visiting. Police said all of the victims were related by blood or marriage, but did not all live at the apartment.

I find the "and why" bit odd unless there was a note or recording.

You’re right. I do see the logic of that now. Jornolistic standards of communicating have sunk so low it requires a good deal of guesswork and intuition to figure out what they might have been meaning to say. This article isn’t even on the bad end of the scale.

When this country gets serious about America for Americans and we start the massive deportations, I'm almost to the point that we need to send the Mooselimbs back first and then the illegal Mexicans. Both are cancers on our country but the destructive Muzzie cancer is clearly at Stage IV.

Thanks Obama for making our land so welcoming to his kind. /s

We don’t call them the “Fort Worth Red Star” for nothing.

Ain't that the truth! Also lovingly known as the "Jim Wright express" for many years due to their constant sucking up to him. And, while I hate to speak ill of the departed, I believe communist Molly Ivans also was a columnist of theirs.

Yes they had Molly Ivans and Katie Sherrod, whom they actually chased off for gross serial plagiarism.

One of my favorites was one of their stories on how easy it was to steal GM vehicles, along with explicit detailed instructions.

I thought about calling them asking to borrow a newspaper box so I could write them a guest article on how to steal papers by jimmying the box. I am sure they would have been happy to oblige.

What are you? stupid?

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I'm just about convinced that miss marmelstoon has an evil streak and is a miserable, hate-filled bag of bile.

Seeing its nasty, inappropriate remarks on this thread just further validates that impression.

I literally thank God I'm not miserable like that.

Merry Christmas, mylife!

It's doubtful those involved were Texans or even Americans. The apartment complex was characterized as a multi-ethnic "United Nations" by one of the residents.

Apparently, it was an honor killing. ROP strikes again.
