Humans have extensively shaped animals and plants through domestication. Although wine and table grapes have been important culturally for thousands of years, their origin has been difficult to pinpoint because of uneven sampling of modern cultivars. In new research, geneticists from Yunnan Agricultural University and elsewhere analyzed genetic data from 3,525 cultivated and wild grape varieties from around the world.

A uniformed Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper was asked to leave a Waffle House restaurant in Grapevine this week because he was armed. The trooper was wearing a Texas DPS helicopter pilot “field uniform” that consists of a DPS polo shirt, tan slacks and his badge and gun were on his belt. Trooper was asked to leave and not to return because he was wearing a gun. The reaction against the manager and Waffle House on Facebook was predictably angry that a uniformed police officer would be thrown out of a restaurant. CBS DFW’s Bud Gillett reported that...

Authorities said they believe the shooter is among the dead, but got a warrant before doing a full search on the small chance that it was otherwise. Four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, were found in an adjoining kitchen and living room area when police entered the apartment around midday, said...

The crazed gunman dressed in a Santa suit who gunned down two families while they were opening their presents on Christmas morning was the father and estranged husband of three of his victims. Aziz Yazdanpanah, who had separated from his wife in March, is believed to have opened fire at an apartment in Grapevine, Dallas - just after the family opened their gifts - before turning the gun on himself. Just hours before the families were killed, the group had thrown a large Christmas Eve party at their ranch. Dozens of friends and relatives celebrated late into the night, according...

Admittedly one cannot offhand buy a chateaux, vineyard, or standing in society, but still, the fashion can be emulated at the very least. The usual stereotypical chic in France, among those who own vineyards is that of a shabby wardrobe, messy hygiene, and an almost wan expression that speaks of the ennui of the cultivated aristocrat who lives tending his vineyards.

It's the first construction project of it's kind in the country. The Texas Department of Transportation says they want it to make room for a growing state. "A thousand people a day move to texas," says spokesman Larry Krantz,"where are these people going to drive? The population in Texas is going to explode by 60% in the year 2030." Their plans involve moving commercial trucks off existing interstate highways and onto one of two...

GRAPEVINE (CBS 11 News) ― A fight over language in a Grapevine school has gotten so heated that some parents are pulling their children out of class. The parents are claiming that students are being forced to learn Spanish, while children of immigrants aren't being forced to learn or speak English. The signs posted around Timberline Elementary are done in both English and Spanish, and so are the school letters and other information. Officials with the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District say it's their duty to educate all students. But some white students and their parents say they are now the...

Why Did They Look Into It?Friday, August 05, 2005 By Brit Hume Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine: The New York Times has been asking lawyers who specialize in adoption cases for advice on how to get into the sealed court records on Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' two adopted children. There is no indication The Times had any evidence there was anything improper in the family's adoption of five-year-old Josie and four-year-old Jack, both born in Latin America. Sources familiar with the matter told FOX News that at least one lawyer turned the Times down flat, saying...

Bakersfield -- Interstate 5 was shut down in both directions south of Bakersfield this morning after two trucks collided before dawn and caught fire, backing up traffic on the main road between San Francisco and Los Angeles for miles, the California Highway Patrol said. The accident happened around 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the stretch of road known as the Grapevine, near Gorman. Traffic backed up for more than two miles in both directions before Highway Patrol officers sent motorists on a 148-mile-long detour via Highways 14 and 58. "It's a real mess down there," said Officer Johnny...

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, who last October spent an entire segment distorting Vice President Cheney's remarks about Iraq and al-Qaeda, on Tuesday night dedicated a segment, punctuated with a mock "Faux News Channel" logo which matched the appearance of the real Fox News Channel graphic, to how FNC's Brit Hume supposedly took former President Franklin Roosevelt "out of context" and "twisted" FDR's words when he quoted him, as have others, as having advocated private investment in Social Security accounts. Olbermann brought aboard James Roosevelt Jr., FDR's grandson, who denounced Hume, unconvincingly, for committing "quite an amazing distortion." Roosevelt saw a hanging...

Brit Hume just covered Kerry's quote in Outdoor Life magazine about owning a communist rifle to remind him of his M-16 that saved his life in Vietnam. Brit says that it turns out that the magazine never interviewed Kerry. Instead, they sent out a questionnaire. The Kerry campaign now says that Kerry did not answer the questions, but a campaign staffer answered for him. The staffer is to blame.

The Washington Dispatch Commentary by Paul M. Weyrich July 28, 2004 Every now and then I have loosely related matters I think would be useful to tell you, but independently do not warrant an entire commentary. So here are the items for your consideration: A number of important Members of Congress believe that former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger leaked the problem he had about stolen documents on himself. The theory is that he knew he had been caught red handed. It is presumed that he knew the matter was coming to a head and would likely be made public....

Tonight on the Grapevine, Foxnews discussed CBS News reporting on the "massive" conservative revolt against Bush, despite their own polling results which showed Bush with overwhelming Republican support. The question was then asked, "Where did CBS get the idea the conservatives were rebelling? The answer...from the New York Times." They then went on to discuss Ambrose's (they didn't credit him unfortunately) discovery that the NYT's used the same source calling him first a Republican and then two weeks later an independent to support their claim that conservatives were ditching Bush.Nice job Ambrose. You didn't get the credit on Foxnews, but...
