Perry ad pushes for a part-time Congress - "Let them get a job back home like everyone else has."
Boston Globe ^ | December 26, 2011 | Shira Schoenberg

Texas Governor Rick Perry is playing up his status as a “Washington outsider” in a new TV ad released today, which will air on broadcast and cable TV in Iowa.

The ad flashes a picture of the four current or former members of Congress running against Perry in the Republican presidential race: former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, Texas Representative Ron Paul, and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann.

“If Washington’s the problem, why trust a congressman to fix it?” the announcer says. The announcer says Perry’s opponents have spent a combined 63 years in Congress “leaving us with debt, earmarks, and bailouts.”

>>It’s not a gimmick.<<

It is most certainly a campaign gimmick. Perry as president would have no authority nor power to mandate a part time congress.

Congress holds this power and congress alone. Therefore, Perry's talkin out his keaster on this.

This is the Perry we know down here in Texas. He’z full of it.

Cinci-wife accused me of lying in regards to my posts concerning Perry. She’z not yet pointed out where I lied.

If I were standing next to ya, I'd have a big fat $50 bill to challenge anyone that could prove what I posted was inaccurate.

Perry's a political animal. He’z had his eyes on this prize for years, even though he arrogantly denied his secret ambitions here in Texas.

In fact, at a new conference he said exactly this, “what part of no don't you understand”, in response to a question about THIS very presidential run.

Go check it out.....or you can accept on face value folks calling it a lie.

You do know that Obama will be running against Wall Street and Congress. It's clear Perry and his team are getting out ahead of Obama. It's clear no one else is.

Any candidate but Perry will be forced to play ball on Obama's field simply because they don't have a record of achievement during the Obama reign. We can't just say "you shoulda done X" because Obama will say "I inherited Bush's economy, just give me more time"

How does anyone else counter that remark?

Obama:" Look, we're gradually coming out of this but we inherited a brutal economy and the stimulus really hasn't had enough time to work but we're making progress, don't get cold feet and change course back to what we were doing 4 years ago"

Perry: "I inherited that same economy in Texas but in Texas instead of spending more money, we cut government spending. Instead of more regulations, we pared them down. Instead of more litigation, we signed loser pays. Instead of uncertainty in the tax code we implemented stability and we created 45% of all the jobs created in America while you were President. You lost 2 million.

He is not saying he has the power, he is saying he can help the people who DO have the power to get this done and he will use his political capital to rouse the people to get after their representative and their states to get this done. It CAN be done with a Constitutional amendment and since there will be an amendment for the balanced budget why not take care of both things at the same time.

Don’t convert them to part time until they’ve repealed multiple volumes of the Federal Register. Otherwise you’ll just be leaving the bureaucrats running the country in their absence. Repealing what’s needed at best will probably take more than two terms. Even Reagan couldn’t do it in two. So this shouldn’t be a front burner issue although the concept may be worth keeping on the long term back burner.

It's called a bully pulpit and Perry is running on what has made Texas successful.

A part time Congress kills lobbying as we know it and it puts the power more into the hands of the voter. Perry is proposing bold ideas to change Washington. Perry governs Texas and he knows the power Washington holds over the states.

Get over your disappointment of whomever your original candidate was. It's time to pick someone and fight for them. Jeeze at least tell me why Perry can't win and your guy can. This thread jumping Perry bashing has gone on since August. Get over it.

Why does your candidate have a better chance at beating Obama?

It’s rich coming from a guy sucking at the public tit for what will be TWENTY-EIGHT years continuously. Why doesn’t he go home and get a job like everyone else ?

This is a great idea and I would add a mandatory 10-year prison sentence for any representative who gets sweetheart deals or unduly enriches themselves while working in their part-time role.

It is nothing more than campaign rhetoric designed to get peoples attention. It is no more do-able than a rocket to Pluto.

2010, candidates for Congress vowed to build a border fence, then after the election, voted to not approve funding for the fence.

By the way, my candidate has not announced. If it were up to me, I'd throw’em all out.

Nothing but a bunch of used car salesman, pitching the next sell.

By the way, I don't respect Perry because of his big brother government ways. Ask the farmers and ranchers here in the state of Texas whether they respect Perry.

A man of the land. He attempted to confiscate through Imminent domain private land which in some cases has been in these families since the beginning of the Republic of Texas.

All for his lil pet project TTC. Foreign built, foreign operated, for foreign goods, transported by foreign trucks.

Yea, wonder if he hatched that lil plan while working for Al Gore's campaign.

Maybe it was while he supported HillaryCare.

He’z your boy, go for it. Y'all be coming back in a few years bitching cause he went off on a rabbit trail y'all didn't expect.

Us texicans only let our legislature sit for short periods, they can do less damage to us legal citizens that way.

I didn’t accuse you of lying, but you were mistaken or biased about every single criticism you made of Perry on that other thread.

I wonder who you like who is so great?

As for the part-time congress idea, it probably won’t happen but it’s a good idea and at least he’s got it out there. I think the people would be very much in favor of it.

It won’t happen with the current congress. We’ll have to elect people who would pledge to support the idea.

It’s not radical... he’s not planning to light the streets by bouncing light from Mars or something.

The only possible choice we have is a new third party movement. Like Perot’s or Wallace’s without a nut bar like those two.

The country is going thru a financial crisis because the jobs are gone...Very few left to buy houses or cars...The tax base is shot...Those who used to work go on unemployment benefits and then welfare...

And the one candidate who wanted to put a stopper in the flusher you are calling a nut bar???

If another Perot shows up, I'll be the first to vote for him...

Perot elected Clinton.

Another third party candidate would elect Obama.

I actually saw a guy wearing a t-shirt that said, “don’t blame me, I voted for Perot.”

This was right after Clinton got elected. I really wanted to hit him but he was big (and fat).

I've said all along that if Perry was the nominee, I'd support him over that bozo in the white house.

In the primaries, it is our duty to select the most conservative candidate.

Please, where am I mistaken with my post? Everything I stated is true.

In state tuition for illegals.
Executive order mandating gardasil injections.
Weak border control.
Massive toll road program.
Imminent domain to confiscate thousands of acres of private land.
Sanctuary city bills failure.
Campaign chair for Al Gore's campaign.
Support of HillaryCare.
Mexican trucker Pilot program.
Trans-Texas corridor being foreign operated/foreign built.
Hike in business tax.

Please, tell me where I lied, am mistaken or deceived by posting what the above? Biased, I'll give ya that one.

All of the above is true and actually did happen. Perry has been back tracking and apologizing for some of this as well. Specifically the forced gardasil injections mandated by executive order, not legislative process.

As far as the part time congress poppy cock, why mention it at all if it hasn't a snow balls chance in hell?

Designed to get people to look at Perry as tough Washington outsider. But on it's face is a deception and he should be called on it.
