Dubuque, Iowa - Continuing to contrast himself against Mitt Romney, the "Massachusetts moderate," Newt Gingrich declared he would grow the economy as president by reining in the government the way he had done with Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp.
"In 1982, Reagan was talked into a tax increase, I opposed it. Kemp and I led the fight against it. Reagan said it was a mistake; it was the biggest single mistake of his administration. In 1990, President Bush wanted to raise taxes and I opposed it. We had a huge fight. The majority of Republicans voted no. And this fight still goes on today."
Gingrich said he had experienced this standoff twice already and had the experience to win the current standoff between tax cutters and tax hikers, putting the front-runner Mitt Romney in the latter category.
"He's a fine person, I've said that publicly," Gingrich said of the national front-runner whose negative ads have undercut the former House Speaker's position in the polls. "He is a good manager, he is a competent. He did very, very well with the Winter Olympics but there's a huge difference between the philosophy of a supply side conservative in the Kemp-Reagan tradition, and the philosophy of a Massachusetts moderate. I would dramatically cut taxes."
The former House Speaker has been criticized for taking credit for the achievements of former President Bill Clinton and Gingrich said he "gets to claim half the credit" for the "bipartisan effort."
"I was effective. I actually got the deal done," Gingrich said. "So it wasn't 112% pure. But it worked. And we got a liberal Democrat to sign welfare reform, we got a liberal Democrat to sign tax cuts, we got a liberal Democrat to sign four consecutive balance budgets. Now I think that's pretty effective conservatism."

LOL. She is lovely and very gracious and nice. Bright red lipstick, too...lol.
The only way we have a chance to win the general election if it becomes about worlds colliding, about a clash of civilizations. That’s how far the left has gone, they are becoming a state within a state, founded on values that are anathema to America and her constitution. Obama is their God-King and the Occupy Wall Streeters are their growing legion of ground troops (I expect an alliance of convenience with the Paulestinians will be formed soon enough.).
For this fight, we need not just a man, but a myth, someone who brings with him not mere baggage, but the stuff of legend. Newt is a man who contains worlds within himself, at least two or three. He is a fearless champion who has the gravitas to roll with the punches against the worst barrages the left can throw at him, pull himself together and respond in kind by laying the smack down squarely on Barack’s shoulders. We need to be prepared for a clash of the titans. For that we need a lion, not a scarecrow. We cannot afford to bring Mittens to a Newt-fight.
Yes that was really fun!
Heh, I got sigs, you got a pic.
Next time I want to get my pic taken with her.
Then Newt if there is time...
(dang I left my RF tagline on)
Palin red...
The contrast is greater though, as she is so light complected.
Most here never heard of Laffer.
Thats a great video. Too bad it can’t be shown every day to every citizen so they will know about this man. They love to talk about Gingrich flip-flops but no one COULD flip-flop more than Mitt Romney. He’s flip-flopped on EVERY SINGLE ISSURE.
GO NEWT.........GET WITH IT AND REPEAT ALL THE THINGS ROMNEY HAS SAID IN THE PAST. What a phony Mittens is!
*issue* NOT *issure*
Ooops
I sure hope you aren’t right about that! To me, he’s a rock star. I wish our side would get him on more TV and radio while he is still alive.
Quix, barring a last minute entry by some mythical ‘super conservative’, Newt may well be all we have to choose from except Romney.
Sad to say, but essentially, we need to help the greater of two flawed people so that we can get rid of someone who is arguably evil incarnate.
You sir have nailed it solid right there.
Yeah . . .
though I’m not at all certain that voting matters at all in at least some venues . . . the corruption and control of the COUNTING process sounds like it’s all according to Stalin’s rules already.
And, certainly I think we are, nevertheless, still obligated before God to vote as rationally and discerningly as we can.
Sigh.
MARANATHA.
Thanks for your rebuttal to my comments. I agree with all the hopeful statements about Politician Newt. My concern is that Politician Newt will revert to his natural state of thought and action.
As a case in point, let us examine what Politician Newt said recently that he “would repeal Obamacare,” and what the publication “The Hill” wrote about what Nanny State Newt said in September about Obama”care” as follows:
“- - - Gingrich on Obamas healthcare law: About 300 pages are pretty good
By James Klatell - 09/30/11 08:56 AM ET
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) called for an immediate repeal of President Obama’s healthcare law but would reinstate “a little over 10 percent” of it.
He made the remarks on Thursday in Iowa, when he introduced a new version of his “Contract with America.” - - - “
Will the REAL Newt Gingrich please stand up?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
America cannot afford another Conservative Destruction such as the Zipper-Boy “Gift” that GHWB gave us with his “Read my Lips, NO NEW TAXES!” Nor can America withstand the Republican nominating another McCain-style RINO generating 4 more years of arrogant, Bolshevik Chairman Obama.
Obama will carry the majority of those who vote their pocketbook AND pay NO personal Federal Income Tax, or 47 % / 2 = 24 %. With the usual coalition of the various counterculture voter blocks that are controlled by Democrats, and the limousine-liberals from Wall Street and Hollywood, Obama could easily win re-election.
We, the TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY primarily judge a politician by what he has done in the past, and partially judge a politician by what he says that he will do in the future.
Thus, I pose the question directly to Newt: “Are you a cradle-to-grave Nanny State Politician, or a Politician who will CONSERVE the Core Values of America?”
My Grandchildren will be harmed if you are the former - - - .
Well put, sir. I would also add that Newt seems to be the only candidate who not only understands the existential threat of Islam as a political and legal system, but is demanding that we honestly address it. Moreover he has been a long time critic of the State Department, and he understands the culture therein, which turns professional diplomats into apologists for our country, and advocates for our adversaries within our government.

It could happen. :)
Self-ping to a great post on why Gingrich is an okay choice in spite of his flaws
Sorry but Newt’s soul has been purchased. I am not a supporter.
