Oh my.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Its conventional wisdom in Republican circles here in South Carolina that if Mitt Romney wins the states primary this Saturday having already won in Iowa and New Hampshire hell be the GOP presidential nominee. If for some reason hes not derailed here and Mitt Romney wins South Carolina no ones ever won all three I think it should be over, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday. That would be quite a testament to his ability as a candidate and a campaigner.
But what if Romney did not actually win Iowa? That could change the calculation considerably. And there is a very real chance that the Republican Party of Iowa will announce this week that Rick Santorum, and not Romney, won the Iowa caucuses.
Results released on caucus night actually, at 2 the next morning showed Romney won by eight votes, 30,015 to Santorums 30,007. Many observers assumed that those results were final, especially when party officials said there would be no recount.
But the results were not final. Even though there is no provision for a recount in the party caucuses, state GOP rules do require that the results be certified, which is nearly the same thing. That certification process began the day after the caucuses and is expected to wrap up this week, yielding a final, official vote tally.
The final numbers will be different from those released on caucus night. One campaign source says the vote count as of midday Monday showed Santorum ahead by 80-something votes. If that number holds through certification of the last precincts, Santorum will win. Of course, there is always the possibility that some of the final precincts will contain discrepancies that put Romney back on top. Its just not clear.
The votes for Romney in Iowa were manipulated so that he’d have the “Romney wins Iowa” headline and give him momentum going into NH.
So transparent. But these tricks work and will likely result in Romney being the nominee.
FReepmail Antoninus to be added or removed.that up.
It will be interesting to see if the media pays any real attention to this if Santorum wins Iowa or will they simply and quietly stop saying Romney won Iowa. You know the RINO establishment will make it low key.
A Bush 2000 repeat?
Chipping away at the Willard statue the GOP has already commissioned.
Who the hell in the Santorum camp decided to play nice with Romney and not demand a recount of Iowa? Since the caucus the MSM has been pounding the line that Romney is the first GOP candidate to “win” both Iowa and NH since Ford.
The unseemly rush to anounce results means stolen elctions.
Every outlet that can be reached the news should be relayed.
The MEDIOTS will say Slick Willard “Sweeps” even when he loses in South Carolina....
The Paultard will say he sweeps all three primaries even when he comes in dead last.
The game playing is endless. I see the media has started to insert Buddy Roemer back into some of the polls to drain off the few votes from legitimate candidates.
"The votes for Romney in Iowa were manipulated so that hed have the Romney wins Iowa headline and give him momentum going into NH.
So transparent. But these tricks work and will likely result in Romney being the nominee."
Yep. And now they're all talking about FL- when SC is the next vote.
But we're not going to just let him walk away with this without a real fight this time.
Right. A moderate nominee means a loss or a bare win with nobody excited to help the downticket races.
Although I think this time, the downticket races may pull the republican nominee over the top, but we’ll see.
In any event, it’s all out war and the republican establishment is playing patty-cake.
I hope so and that will shut the media up in saying he won the first two states, broke records and all that other garbage.
Go Newt!
The unseemly rush to anounce results means stolen elctions.
I heard Santorum say last night the Iowa vote should be certified today or tomorrow and that it looked like a win!
No, not really. The fact is, it was a close election. Most people would not take the initial results and hard and fast.
Wait for the final numbers.
Santorum and Romney essentially tied.
I will be shocked if Santorum wins IA. It will mean that the IA state GOP came down with a case of honesty.
The nice thing about it will be all the dopes like Karl Rove blabbering about how significant Mittens winning IA and NH is totally meaningless.
"It will be interesting to see if the media pays any real attention to this if Santorum wins Iowa or will they simply and quietly stop saying Romney won Iowa. You know the RINO establishment will make it low key."
Exactly. (Either that, or they'll say that "although Santorum may have 'squeaked by' in Iowa, it's too late to stop Romney's momentum now".)
The counter to this argument: focus on what really matters- the delegate count.
There is no need not play nice on Santorum part. The process is going forward and nothing Santorum could say would change that.
