Nah. I like Gingrich/Santorum

After the way Santorum went after Newt last night, i doubt very much we'll see that. If he were to pick from the Republican field, my guess is he'd go with the other Rick.

How bout Newt/Cain?

I was thinking about this too. That would really put some sand in the Obama machine gears.

NO and NO! Newt owes Romney nothing. I’m thinking Marco Rubio or Col. Allen West on the VP ticket. Both campaign managers for those two are now heading up the Newt team for Florida.

A Veep choice has to be seen as a reasonable, soft-spoken and well-meaning plodder.

Well, that description fits most of the occupants of Ohio, so Rob Portman has a chance.

Whether Newt or Romney tops the ballot, the VP slot will go to either a minority or woman. If not it is guaranteed to be someone who can deliver a large swing state.

For the record, back in 2008 when McCain was wrapping up the nomination before he chose his running mate I predicted that if McCain picked Palin that he would win in a landslide. I thought Palin would be a huge draw for women. I was about as wrong as can be.

I like Gingrich/Palin. Palin understands oil and oil is the life blood of every Country in the world. Look what she accomplished in Alaska. If Gingrich as President would assign the first task of getting America independent would be fantastic.

Actually you don’t want to give a guy the second slot, that you don’t ever want to be president. The V. P. is generally the shoe-in when an eight year term comes to an end.

I wouldn’t be in favor of Newt nominating Romney as his running mate.

“...no way, no how...”

That is the way I feel about Bolton now that he is such a Romny guy. No longer a Sec. of State pick in good standing.

Michelle’s stock went down during the campaign and she would not benefit the ticket.

I think Gingrich-Barrasso would be a good ticket. Sure John Barrasso is from little (electoral vote wise) Wyoming and it is a sure thing for the GOP but...he is a likeable guy, has a solid conservative record, an Italian heritage, a regular ole Presbyterian, and would do well campaigning outside the West. Plus it would be easy to keep his Senate seat in GOP hands. Barrasso has been a rodeo doctor and that has a good sound to it. People like that sort of Americana.

That's madness.

Ronald Reagan's biggest mistake was picking George Bush for Vice President.

Picking R0mney would be an even bigger mistake.

Okay, peeps....unclench now. ;-)

Again, I am not saying this is my preference, nor I am even advocating such a ticket. I'm just looking at a few things as I think Newt might do...

Romney does offer some geographic balance. Newt, as a Southerner, could potentially pick up some support in the upper midwest with Romney, who has roots in Michigan and Massachusetts. I am not saying he would automatically win either state, but it's possible. He could also help in Nevada, which I believe will in fact be an important state.

Style. Yes, this can help. Newt is bombastic, brassy, and brash. Romney is smooth and stays (usually) unruffled. Some would of course say slick or smarmy. He is also telegenic. Again, IMHO.

Business background. Newt has worked in academia and government. Romney's private-sector business experience could be an asset. Romney also has significant financial backing.

I also believe that Romney would come off well in a debate with Slow Joe Biden.

I am reminded of Reagan's gambit of asking Pennsylvania Sen. Richard Schweiker to be his running mate in '76. In Craig Shirley's excellent book "Reagan's Revolution", he gave the story of one Republican delegate in particular who, upon hearing of Reagan's selection, immediately decided to abandon Reagan. After thinking it over, he decided that "Vice-President Schweiker would be a lot easier to take than Secretary of State Kissinger" (speaking of Gerald Ford's SoS).

My own first ticket choice was Mitch Daniels/David Petraus (actually my first first choice was George Allen. Of course, that was afew years ago...) Again, I am just thinking of some possibilities.
