Ronald Reagans eldest son Mike Reagan has issued a statement lambasting Mitt Romney and his supporters for claims that Romneys Republican presidential rival Newt Gingrich was a strong critic of President Reagan. Reagan says such claims are false. Even Rush Limbaugh, shocked by the Romney claims, chimed on his Thursday radio broadcast to say "This is obviously a coordinated attack to take Newt out here in Florida." Rush slammed the Romney-backed smear campaign against Newt. That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much," Limbaugh said. Limbaugh added that Newt has always been a conservative from his early days in national talk radio in the 1980s. He was perhaps the premier defender of Ronald Reagan, Limbaugh said. Note: Do You Support Gingrich or Romney? Vote in Urgent Poll Click Here Now On Thursday, Mike Reagan, a respected conservative commentator, responded to the Gingrich critics with this statement to Newsmax: I am deeply disturbed that supporters of Mitt Romney are claiming that Newt Gingrich is not a true Reaganite and are even claiming that Newt was a strong critic of my father. Recently I endorsed Newt Gingrich for president because I believe that Newt is the only Republican candidate who has both consistently backed the conservative policies that my father championed and the only Republican that will continue to implement his vision. It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue when Mitt by his own admission voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale who opposed my father, and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president. As governor of Massachusetts, Romneys achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time.

Sure wish I didn't feel this way as I thought Rush knew we were at a cross roads and did not need a place holder like Romney would be.
If we keep the House and get the Senate with Romney as the Prez we would not stop our Countries slide. With any true Conservative (not Romney) we WILL have a chance to get our country back.

Well, you may have put your finger on the problem right there. The Rush Limbaugh I’ve listened to since I was a little girl, DOES know what to believe. I would find it very, very hard to believe that in a Newt-vs-Mitt contest, Rush does not know what to believe.

I think you’re misinterpreting my comment. When I say Rush doesn’t know what to believe, I’m referring to his take on these articles and audio clips about how Gingrich supposedly insulted Ronald Reagan repeatedly throughout the ‘80s. He plainly said this doesn’t jive with his memory of Newt Gingrich from the Reagan years. So I’m saying Rush may not know what to believe about all these smear pieces coming out about Gingrich.
Trust me, I’ve been listening to Limbaugh for almost 20 years now and you won’t find a more ardent supporter of his than me. Rush is ONE guy I can count on to NEVER EVER sell out the conservative movement!
Hiya Joe!
No, from Drudge. I can’t get it.
http://www.drudgereport.com/ I can get everything except the top. View source and you’ll see what I mean. It’ll begin with obama’s picture and Dole’s headline.
“He kept flip-flopping all day. I think the only thing he really cares about these days are football games and hawking iced tea”
And his RATINGS!!!
Rush can Kiss My Plaid Ass!!!!! Rush is in it for Rush and he has completely manifested into the person all the libs have said he was for years!!! He has betrayed his audience due to his own ego and I don’t buy it for one second!
Very possible. I am pretty riled up right now. Due almost solely to the transcript of Rush's remarks.
To hell with Rush Limp-baugh.... he was tearing Newt apart today. His double speak is sickening.
Turn on Mark Levin.... he is on fire, trashing Romney, the establishment and defending Newt!!!!!

GO NEWT GO.....
It is time for Rush Limpbaugh to retire.
The old dodge of 'but that's politics' just don't wash.
It's about a deficit of personal character and public honor, or in their case, the obvioius lack thereof.
Hey Drudge, you sack of excrement, that’s not near enough to get me to go back to your cesspool of a site. Not now, not ever.
GTH, MD.
I only heard 30 mins but I didnt hear Rush slam Newt. Rush said that the attacks against Newt seemed to be backfiring.
I’m confused. I couldn’t listen to Rush today. Only caught a few minutes. That said, how can this be true? Everyone has been blasting Rush for criticizing Newt.
Pravious wrote: the transcript made Rush sound not at all supportive of Newt. Just the opposite.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT.I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO HIM FOR YEARS ALSO AND IF HE IS THE CONSERVATIVE HE CLAINS TO BE HE WOULD ENDORSE NEWT PERIOD. NO MORE EXCUSES.
Thanks. It’s good to read that - there are rumors going around here saying the opposite and I fell for it. So thanks for clearing that up about Rush!
Better not take on the Reagan family, Rush! Hannity just played a direct quote from Nancy Reagan; "...Ronnie passed the (Conservative) torch to Newt and the Republican Congress."
I haven't seen anyone voice my feelings on Rush today, so I'll give it a go.
I've been listening to Rush since 1989, and although he has been the #1 voice for conservatism, there is something about elections that makes him, well, weird.
The whole "Operation Chaos" was way too clever and I feel it probably helped (in a very small way) to give us Barak Husein Obama.
Today was a big game for Rush ...defend Newt ...attack Romney ....defend Romney ....attack Newt ...etc., etc. He even referred to this as a variation of "Operation Chaos," to somehow help get a Republican nominated. Not sure I'm clever enough to follow the argument.
I'm reminded of something I learned long ago about telling a joke; if you have to explain the punch line it ain't that funny.
For me, what nails this all down is asking why we are fighting this battle? Indeed, I ask that of all my fellow FReepers. Now I'm probably going to sound a little harsh, but here's my take...
Rush has no children or grandchildren.
That's it. To me, that's the crux of the argument. Rush has a much nicer home and jet than I will ever dream of owning. Heck, I'm 64 and I will probably never even visit a home as nice as his or ride a someone's personally owned jet. I don't begrudge him that. He's earned it, and I wish him well.
But I don't think Rush has my deep-down, way down in the gut, concern for my kids and grandkids. That's why I'm in this battle for the soul of America. At 64, I'm probably going to be okay. I put a little away in the 401K and the wife and I have lived within our means for the past 25 years, avoiding spending money we did have.
But my five grandkids are being straddled with debt they cannot hope to pay, and I have literally shed tears for what we are doing to them.
So for me, this isn't a fight about "my guy" versus "your guy," or even moderate versus conservative, it's about who is going to stop this madness before it's too late.
Romney is a "finger in the wind" politician who will move which ever way the winds blow. I put as much stock in his words as I did (now with hindsight) when George Herbert Walker Bush said, "Read my lips. No new taxes."
Newt claims he's doing this because of his two grandchildren. I'm taking him at his word. I do so, because when he talks about his grandchildren, and his concern for the future we are making for them, he sounds just like me.
Rush has his cats, and his jet, and golf outings to die for, but at the end of the day he has no compelling reason to look out two or three or four decades. I do. My five grandchildren give me that opportunity every day.
Pfffft! Why should Rush worry if he's going to ruin whatever Conservative “creds” he might have by endorsing Romney in the Fall??? All he has to do is bash Obama; no need to shill for Romney if he is a true Conservative.
It’s down at the bottom of the first column. The rest of drudge is a cesspool. His BIG headline is the dole thing at the top.
Older but wiser bump.
With both drudge and rush it has been slow in coming but as the primary has progressed, it has become ever more obvious.
Sad to say, for drudge it took him becoming so blatant, so over the top against Gingrich, for it to have become absolutely undeniable, and I was pushed to say enough.
Our eyes have been opened to so many, and it has disappointing - sometimes shocking, but we see now, and will no longer be herded - by anyone.
May God give us strength.
