New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie lashed out at a fellow Garden State politician Monday, calling an openly gay state legislator a “numbnuts” in response to the lawmaker labeling him a racist last week.
A visibly perturbed Christie made the comment during a news conference on Monday, reported the New Jersey Star-Ledger.
It all started last week when Christie called for a voter referendum on gay marriage.

Don’t know the proper spelling but isn’t “numnutz” a term used by the 3 Stooges? I always thought the nuts part meant crazy, not a refererence to nuts.

Can’t fault him for that. It is my word of choice when my husband or any of my 3 grown sons do something incredibly stupid (in that loving way only a Mom and wife can do).

The expression was originally “numbnut”, the nut in this case meaning “head”.
It was a synonym for numbskull.
Somewhere along the line the “s” was added, giving it a different, decidedly vulgar connotation.
Numbutz is a whole lot better then being called:
1) Colon Cowboy
2) Pickle Chugger
3) Baloney Pony Rider
4) Cake Boy
5) Salad Tosser
Why would the guy being gay have anything to do with it. A straight person’s nuts can be numb, too.
BTW, I think “numbskull” was the word commonly used by the Three Stooges, although it’s been decades since I’ve watched a Three Stooges bit.
