Press Trust of India has quoted Pentagon spokesperson Commander Leslie Hullryde confirming that, contrary to press reports, the United States has not made available Lockheed Martin's advanced, fifth generation fighter jet F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters to India.
However, it was noted that should India express an interest, the United States would submit technical information and initiate a discussion.
"Should India indicate interest in purchasing the JSF, the United States would be prepared to provide information on the JSF and its requirements (infrastructure, security, etc) to support India's future planning"
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, fifth generation multirole fighters under development to perform ground attack, reconnaissance, and air defense missions with stealth capability. The F-35 has three main models; one is a conventional takeoff and landing variant, the second is a short take off and vertical-landing variant, and the third is a carrier-based variant.
The F-35 is descended from the X-35, the product of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program. JSF development is being principally funded by the United States, with the United Kingdom and other partner governments providing additional funding. The partner nations are either NATO members or close U.S. allies. It is being designed and built by an aerospace industry team led by Lockheed Martin. The F-35 took its first flight on 15 December 2006.
Aint gonna happen if India proceeds to purchase Iranian oil for gold instead of using US petro dollars.
I doubt India is all that worried about not getting the F-35.
Damn things are too expensive to buy who would want one.
Thanks ravager.
They should be worried about not having American planes. They crash those Russian planes all the time (might be running out of pilots}. They just bought some C-130s from us.
Exactly “what” do you KNOW of these “damn things”?
You speak as if you think you know, but all I’ve seen are derogatory comments.
Do you have any facts to provide that would support your assertions?
Thanks in advance.
Given India’s near-Soviet client state status during the Cold War, I’m not surprised. Apart from the onerous technology transfers India requires, any country selling to India has to assume that its technology will end up in Russian hands, and in the hands of any country in which Russia sells its weaponry.
To me, it would be an insult to be offered the F-35. It’s sad that that’s as good as it’s going to get.
Actually, cost-per-unit, it is very expensive.
And is way over-weight and initial testing of weapons load-out was a mess, requiring internal changes to the weapons bay and revamping of its envisioned employment envelope/protocol for an A/G mission.
And other “technical” development challenges that should not be discussed here played (and are playing) a huge role in the difficulties of going IOC.
Thing is, it will eventually be a fine aircraft once the details are worked out.
LM promised too much too soon, thereby getting the contract before they had the airframe totally figured out and able to build it in a timely manner and at the promised cost.
Back at you dummy?// thanks in advance!
American planes never ever crash?
“They crash those Russian planes all the time (might be running out of pilots}. “
You are talking about Mig 21s from the 60s. Some of the pilots flying them are half the age of those places. The Sukhoi 30s on the other hand have excellent safety record
About India passing on technology to Russia... Do you have any example of technology in the hand of Russians because of India? You dont have to answer. Knowing how good you are at spewing BS, I don't think I would want to hold my breath for a reply. Just want to say there is a better chance of American technology falling in the hands of Russia because of Israel then India. And then there is always Pakistan, America's other “ally”.
“They should be worried about not having American planes.”
So Indian should be worried but F-35 is not offered, so what should India do?
Any Indian/Soviet cooperation was forced by the Eisenhower/Nixon puppylove devotion to Muslimen regimes
I’d appreciate your substantiating your claim that India hands over technology from anyone to Russia. I guess that you are mistaking the Pakistanis selling off American technology to the Chinese with India.
